Addressing the Grind! Read full!
Oh man you sure changed my mind. 10/10 > Fallout4 thank you based Anet Gods.
HAHAAHAHA….thanks for spilling my coffee.
Thank you, citizen, for saving me! Just as I thought that getting elite specs on all my alts was going to feel like a grind — you know, because “The definition of mmo grind is completing the same content repeatedly as a form of progression to your character or account.” — YOU jumped in with this post and completely changed my mind.
And your original take on how we’re all just entitled and should be thankful for playing a game we paid for is so fresh. I’ve never seen that perspective before. I feel so much better!!! Off to (not)grind 40 hero points gated behind masteries and group requirements just to play a spec they said I could play right away!
Why are you putting words into people’s mouths.
Ive been a player since day 1, was rank 80 and with full PVE gear. I spent a huge amount of time in GW2 and despite many flaws I loved it. Coming back now I really wanted to play reaper through the PVE content and enjoy it, just like I did when GW2 launched – except now I can’t do that.
I’ve spent hours yesterday and today grinding the stupid boring masteries and then playing stupid boring jumping puzzles to get the hero points so that EVENTUALLY I might actually get to play the reaper through the PVE and wvw zones – like I wanted to. It’s been nothing but frustration since HoT launched and that’s not what I paid for.
I haven’t seen ANY of the new content because I’m skimming past it trying to do the hero points, its ridiculous.
You are equating a game to a job and saying you have to ‘earn it’ I already did earn it when I went out to work to buy the effing expansion, why am I expected to work again just to play it?
Going through the game at a leisurely pace was exactly what I wanted to do – with the new elite spec I’d have access to. Now because of the gating I’m either forced to grind and skim through the content or go through it at a leisurely pace using my old spec – which I have already done once in this game and had my fill.

It will get nerfed eventually; you can’t have a normal map size dealing with champs for HPs.
It wouldn’t be so bad, only some of these elites (look at Daredevil) rely on traits and often traits at the end of the HP ladder to work as intended.
We all expect grind for skins, for titles, for prestige items, etc.
Grind to be able to use your character…. that’s the antithesis of what GW2 has been until now.
This is just wrong. You are forced to grind events. In core GW2 you could go anywhere you want and do anything you want, you could even walk to cursed shore at low level. There wasnt a single arbitrary restriction.
In Heart of Thorns massive amounts of exploration are locked behind a wall of experience that can only realistically be gained through events. If they made it so you can gain HoT mastery experience outside of the HoT zone it would be a lot less frustrating.
Im also not putting words in people’s mouths? Read the forums, read all of the user reviews on external sites.. Stop posting nonsensical slander and move on to a game that suits you if you do not enjoy Guild Wars 2. I am merely pointing out and addressing how players “feeling entitled” is making the expansion look like a grind when it really isnt, they just want everything placed at thier feet… Again… Its an MMO…
I am just going to leave this here for you.

Are actually enough events there to get the XP for thethe masteries required to obtain the Hero Points to complete the Elite Spec without repeating any? If that is true, how much advance in the story will we get when we finally got the full Elite Spec?
What if I want 2 Elite Spec? Can I unlock them without repeating content?
that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”

I love how people make individual threads for this, as if they need to get the message out that the people who have issues with the expansion are simply confused and with a little clarification, they’ll understand that their subjective impressions of the game are objectively wrong.
The whole back and forth between community members is sort of like Xbox vs. PS arguments, or Coke vs. Pepsi. “Why can’t you see that your subjective impressions and tastes are objectively wrong?” Although, it’s more the one side telling the other that, while the other side endlessly clarifies that no, they aren’t even claiming their impressions are objective, they’re just making themselves heard.
Going from hero point to hero point while ignoring everything else just so you can eventually enjoy playing the elite spec is grind. Now as I want 7 of the elites I get to do that 7 times…… GREAT!!!!! YAHOO!!!!! WHAT FUN!!!!!!!!! CAN I HAVE MORE PLEASE??
You are all playing an mmo? You realize this right? Just making sure. You can’t have your cake and eat it too.
I got my elite specialization right away, play the game for more then an hour and decide its garbage. If you are skimming. Then that is your perogative. If all your playing for is to get an elite spec that you wont even end up using on PvE, then why are you playing.
MMO, massivly multi-player online. So large game with many people playing online.
Where does that say groupig to do one time character advancement?
O wait and some people want to get a spec line to use in WvW and raids but don’t really like open world pve that much shouldn’t be playing?
The expansions been out 3 days and the OP has nearly put in the hours of a full time job. Yeah that’s not really what this game was sold as but what ever.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
The point is, you don’t like the direction the game is going, don’t play and move on. No on is forcing a grind here. If you grind lol, thats all on you.. I do everything I want without repeating any content.
Playing fun content for more then two hours to unlock and progress an elite spec they promised you right away!! How dare they!
So you’re saying that no game should ever be improved upon? No criticisms are valid and you should just leave for even suggesting there are flaws? You sir are the worst kind of person for any community.
I think the issue is people play GW2 to avoid the typical grind you find in games like WOW or Rift or ESO. But Anet decided to go the WOW route and their fan base is like…huh? lol I think if you can obtain mastery in WvW all would be well in the world but PvPers are now forced to do PvE.

You dont need to do open world pve HPs to play your elite spec in WvW? Lol you can get it entirely by just playing wvw.
As far as raids, they are meant to be hardmode with progression, you shouldnt be able to complete them without game
Knowedge and experience
You mean grind WvW?
Instead of posting a wall of useless text complaining about about the complaints people have, how about you make a guide on how to max an elite spec and all masteries on a new toon like a Reverant, not an existing one, without having to repeat any content to get there.
Deviant, so you did half the events in Verdant Brink and got the 20+ Hero Points you needed for your elite spec?
that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”

I have no issue with grind. It is just not the reason i started to play gw2. I have mmos that are grindy and do it very well (They are also way more upfront and honest about their expansions.) It is also why have not played gw2 much at all now and moved on to other pastures. Just a lesson learned about how i should never pre order.
Why is everyone attempted to get these elite specializations if they do not want to play any of the content. That is what I wish to know?! Lol still piecing this together?
You’re never going to piece it together with false assumptions. If you truly want to understand, go read, in detail, the last 10-20 pages of the mega thread on elite specs.
If, after that, you still don’t understand, then I suggest logging out of the forums and playing the game instead.
Here I’ll make it simply so of us want to experience the new content with our elite spec (as a necro who always meleed reaper is great) not just to get our elite spec.
Others have alts.
As for getting them in wvw. That again is a matter of wanting to do it with a spec not for a spec. I want to enjoy the ride and not feel like I’m driving to the starting line.

Yes I read the perfect analogy on another thread. Anet put the key inside the locked chest.
I think the general expectation was that we would be able to experience the new content on our elites, not have to finish all the new content to unlock them. What exactly are the elites specs for if we’ve already played all the new content without them?
There is also the problematic dichotomy of having classes that aren’t as popular sparking interest with the elite spec. What’s a person to do? For instance, I haven’t touched my thief in ages. Not a thief guy. Now I might be a Daredevil guy, but will never know because of the intolerable grind needed on thief to get there.
