Adventures = Forever locked
They’re all tied to event chains. Did the event you participated in lead to another event, or was it the end of a chain? The adventures only unlock after the chain is completed.

This, and its a huge problem. Many HoT maps seem to have events failing cause players are dropping out or switching to a more populated map. The ENTIRE weekend I was only able to do 3 adventures cause of this.
They need to make the adventures Not tied to the chain but rather available when the area isn’t under attack. Or make the adventures have their own quest chain to open them that is like a collection or something.
But as it is, they are not getting as used as they could be, and I see a lot of questions about it in /map chat.

Amberley is correct – they are locked by completion of the entire event chain. Which is (IMO) unfortunate because on the majority of the maps certain event chains are not done at all. I’ve tried soloing the event chains, and while it is possible, it is very slow. I understand that events are meant as group content, but why would one lock solo content behind group one?
An employee/developer from ArenaNet recently posted on Reddit something along the lines of them looking into the availability of adventures (I’ve been trying to find the post so I can link it, but I can’t, it was in a thread explaining that the amount of XP you get from adventures is useful for mastery level boosting)
Locked adventures was simply a terrible experience and logging in to the start of night makes it even worse. I’ve never seen the flying adventure unlock, so I went out and solo’d practically the entire chain, with only about 5 people total by the very end. The collection events don’t even scale and seem to assume 10 minimum. By the time I finally got the adventure unlocked, there was only a few minutes until night.
A chain of events locking Adventures is a really bad idea. It means that it could be 30+ minutes before you even unlock the thing you logged on to do. If it was a singular event locking the adventure that was really obvious that’d be completely fine but I should have to spend a ton of time unlocking the Adventure when what I wanted to do was that one thing.
Say I only have 20 minutes to log on one day and I want to do all the adventures that I have done gold for. If half or more of those adventures are locked my entire plan is out the window as I just straight up don’t have time to sit around waiting for event after event.
+1 for allowing adventures to be unlocked to all times.

Then you should realize that MMO is not the kind of game for you at that moment. Each time of game have different length of play period and 20min isn’t for MMO.

Just who do you think you are to say this about the user? Just cause they have 20~mins a day to play a game does not mean they cannot enjoy an MMO.
get off your high horse.

Sometimes I play for 4-5 hours at a time, but some days I just don’t have the same amount of time and I’d like to be able to get something done. Adventures fit into this perfectly but they are constantly gated which feels terrible during those times when I do only have a few minutes to log in.
Committing anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour of time to try to unlock an activity that takes a couple minutes is straight up stupid. I’m not entirely against the adventures needed to occasionally be liberated through an event but having an entire chain is ridiculous.
