Not sure if I am the first to do this and it is not important to me
….says the person with the sig of “5th person worldwide to reach 30,000 achievement points. Currently bearer of 101 titles (excluding “No Title”).”
Not important, huh?
Well, good for you. No need to be modest. That’s your thing and it’s impressive. Congrats on finishing all those collections.

Ahh…nice.
Debateable:
- the enourmous amount of t5, t6 and t7 materials required for crafting the precursors. I would have preferred a higher quantity of journey objectives, possibly harder ones which require more personal skill. Like meleeing tequatl without getting hit by a wave once.
While I personally would like to do more journey/skill type stuff instead of “drop X amount of mats” at the same time you can’t make it too difficult because you have to take into account things like latency. I mean certain things were impossible to do previously because of latency and how it affects gliding. Now that they’ve changed glider deployment to client side, those things become possible.
“- a lot of things designed purely as a material sink barring any logic, such as “Jar of Yellow Paint” for Bifrost 3 collection which required 1000 Iron and 1000 Copper Ores”
-_-
I get that sinks are required but why in the world would yellow paint be made of those two items? come on anet
my own personal experience of the journeys has been quite positive, I’ve enjoyed all the non mat sink stuff and aside from that do understand why there needs to be mat sink stuff in there even if it isnt as fun.
Tier 1 of Howler for example had me turning in to a wolf and hunting down various ambients across tyria which i had great fun with
I’m surprised you didn’t complain about the stupid RNG in Bifrost 3 from the Corals that you needed for the paint lol.
Anyway congrats, not sure if you’re world first but you beat me. I only did all the non-HoT pres and nevermore pre so far, stopped cuz of PvP leagues.
First of all, congrats.
Second, I couldn’t agree more on the dungeon bit. I have no clue why they would completely exclude such a source of content from these objectives. They could for instance reduce the “grindyness” by miles if they changed some of the crafting recipes to include items dropped exclusively in dungeons rather than those god kitten ed Deldrimor steel ingots.
Then again, HoT has always looked rushed and unpolished. Putting up tons of iron ores etc as requiremenet probably was just part of taking the “easy route”.

Wow nice, I’m just surprised you could pull through all the bad events and bugs.
I personally finished all the 1st tier achievements for legendaries. But already I can say the biggest negative of this system. It is just made to WASTE your time. They didn’t even bother testing, if the events work properly on the servers we play on. I had to literally wait days for some events. And that is the worst thing…just sitting there, whatching the minimap for hours.
In the end you find out that all that you have done was for naught. Because surprise! The crafted precursor is never cheaper and often yo will get ripped off because you could have it cheaper from the TP. You can’t even continue crafting those precursors in the future (making more than 1), so now you have just many crafting components wasting your space in your crafting table. Why?
You are basically doing this for the AP, otherwise, with the amount of work you have to put into this it is never worth it.
I’m still just baffled how incredibly much those collections waste our time. One of the worst things that has been added to GW2 so far.
I agree. When precursors through collections cost several hundred gold more than from TP, it kills the need for the collection. I sold all my T7 mats and bought it straight away. Saved myself a full month of farming for more mats and things like that coral thingy.
The worst decision ArenaNet made was using T7 on legendaries and tying the quantities through pre-hot prices of T7 and precursors. ….I don’t get how can someone think this is a good idea and he/she is actually paid for such a rubbish thinking

For centuries, yellow paint was derived from yellow ochre, which comes from Iron Oxide. Thus, the inclusion of Iron Ore.
Copper would be most associated with green, but perhaps that was the closest to yellow (yellow + blue = green), they could have used for a second mineral/ore.
Anet tying precursor prices to the “health” of basically everything in this game’s stupid economy just ruins everything, because the “go do thematic things in the world related to the legendary” parts are legitimately interesting and cool.
It’s a shame they’re wedded to such a naked and shameless material/gold sink, though. If you brought down the number of mats used for crafting the first tier of popular weapon types (which is roughly an order of magnitude greater than what’s required for, say, the offhand or aquatic weapons), and removed the worthless “craft a stack of useless weapons, then craft a stack of their components too” part in the second collection, the whole thing would be reasonable.

Yes, I forgot about the coral part. I basically farmed thouse in Mount Maelstrom when it was Golem Mk2 time or sunday (most people do guild missions then). And hopped between the map instances. Still took some hours to get the required amount.

You got me there I guess. But there is no way for me to find out if it is a world first or not (unless Anet devs verify).

Armors are locked behind raids :P
And I think dungeons would actually be more fun requirements than fractals. Fractals got boring as hell with the HoT rework.
Pretty difficult to argue with the feedback here. I thoroughly enjoyed Rodgort, but the mat sink lost the legendary journey feel, whilst the other tiers were too easy. Prob needed balancing out.
I certainly found then a lot more enjoyable than I expected and some original gameplay ideas thrown in. More of that can only be welcomed.
Hopfully the long lead time on the next round is to avoid the bugging out dramas

Why do I read this with a sarcastic voice when it comes from you?

This is why I probably won’t even get passed the first stage. The amount of Elonian leather squares required stops me. You need that for guild upgrades, for all ascended armour crafting and for the precursors. Even the first tier of all non-underwater precursors cost more than 100g for one part of the crafting list (I haven’t checked the prices on the steel and wood, as you can dedicated farm fir those materisls instead of relying on RNG)
Congrats mr Guildwarsholic, good job

Thanks Gaile, did not expect someone from Anet to respond to this thread
Congratulations! A very venerable achievement and worthy of a special title I think.
I have not started on any of the Legendary crafting yet but this gives me inspiration that at some point I will be able to start on at least one. I guess I am waiting for the new Legendary weapons to see what I might want to try.
What were your thoughts on the time-gated ascended materials?
I personally, felt they were incredibly annoying and not fun. I mean really, when I was on that stage it was craft this spiritwood plank and do something else because I couldn’t progress unless I bought from the TP or waited for it to reset. It really was not fun.

I just bought the majority of them from TP. You can either choose between building the precursor faster or cheaper at the moment. I guess it is the only way to do them without making the whole precursor collection meaningless. Collection 1, 2 and 4 is usually low effort you can do in a few hours depending on your luck with the event spawns.

Yeah I totally understand (and agree) with ensuring that precursor collections aren’t meaningless. But why time-gate it? Time-gated content is not fun (it actually encourages logging in, crafting it, and logging off). I would much rather have a grind of items I can farm for. For example, I was fine with all the Elder wood log the Bifrost collection required because it wasn’t time-gated.
I think a little bit more effort could have gone in the collections instead of just forcing you to have 30+ spiritwood planks. However, if the goal was to make people spend money on gems to convert into gold then this is a flawless idea.
That being said, I think the collections should require ascended materials (I know, I know, I’m contradicting myself) just not a huge amount. Like. Part of the collection can literally only be progressed once a day. WOW, HOW EXCITING! /s
Malediktus,
You’re crazy… but I salute you anyway

It is hard to keep precursors valuable without the t7 rquirement. Maybe if Anet would add 10x more journey (and more difficult, skill depending) steps they could remove the material sink. But I dont see that happening considering how much casuals whine about the legendary armor collection already…
Oh wow that’s an amazing (and totally crazy) achievement to complete, grats to you Malediktus!
