This should really be put in the expansion, it should’ve been in the game in the first place. It’s needed for aiming ally-healing skills, and I think it’d be great if skills that bounce between allies/enemies (for example, Ray of Judgment, Reaper’s Touch, etc) could be used on allies directly. Mimic would also be more interesting if it could target allies.

We can target allies now. And I absolutely hate it. There are no skills that heal specific targets. They’re all area heals and buffs. There is almost no reason to target other players in this game, yet every time I try to target an enemy, I somehow end up targeting a player that’s not even standing that close to it! He just happens to be somewhere in the 30ft between me and the enemy. Probably off to the side somewhere, and irritating the hell out of me.

i was hoping this would be a thread that lets me turn off ally targeting with the press of a button for when i’m fighting.

nope, it’s a thread that wants a feature that makes no sense in GW2’s system.

That! I hate that. In the middle of a zerg trying to target a specific enemy is nigh impossible because all you keep doing is targeting every ally, pet, illusion, minion, and whatever else can possibly get in the way of you actually targeting the enemy you’re trying to get.

All you can do is use Target Next / Target Closest and hope it picks the right thing, because manually clicking is a lost cause.

There are no targeted buffs in this game, and unless something changes with the general design there never will be. As such, I’d love to see the ability to target allies go away completely, at least in combat. Or at the very least have the targeting prioritize enemies over allies.

You can technically target your allies, but it doesn’t actually do anything. The guardian’s staff’s orb won’t track allies, a Necro’s life blast traited with renewing blast doesn’t track allies, an ele’s water blast doesn’t track allies, all skills that bounce between allies and enemies can’t target allies without bouncing from an enemy, and more unusual skills like mimic have no effect on allies. As I said in my opening post.

K, go make your own thread then instead of derailing mine.

The game is not built around having specifically targeted healing skills. We do not have healers as such and thus having ally targeting is rather pointless.

Except there aren’t only healing skills that should be able to target allies.

Of course not, but that is usually the main usage of ally-targeted abilities.

They specifically designed the game around not having to target allies so that support effects were more about watching the field and situational awareness than hotbar whack-a-mole. This is because all support effects are onGW2 classes, and in GW2 there are no “support classes” that aren’t expected to hold their weight in terms of engaging the enemy directly. Ally targeted support is fine in a game where classes are designed around doing just that, but in a game that expects support effects to be carried by characters who are also primarily responsible for DPS, dodging attacks, and throwing control effects at enemies it would simply muck up combat mechanics in to a mire of rapid and annoying target swapping.

As an engineer it is REALLY annoying not being able to tab target downed allies to rez them with function gyro.

I agree with the last post, function gyro requires you to target someone to deploy it and having no quick tab “nearest PC ally” is annoying as hell in the heat of a battle especially when you click something else instead and your party member dies because function gyro didn’t get the revive off. Please fix!

Searching for a way to target downed players is what brought me to this thread. I can’t believe there is no way to target a player ally. It makes gyro revive nearly impossible to use. I don’t think I’ve successfully used it once. This is really needed.

Um…what? In hotkey settings the exact same targeting functions for enemies are duplicated for targeting allies (target nearest, cycle forward, backward, etc.). You just have to set them.

Granted, I think that included NPCs as well. What the game actually needs is click filters, the ability to disable targeting of certain things in and out of combat, etc.

Indeed you need to have the ally targeting feature: as a DH you use F2 a lot. A lot for replacement but also a lot for a nice heal, if someone’s outside you can target him and land automatically at him (with snap targetting).

If you target enemy via mouse cursor, you are doing it wrong anyway, use TAB instead…

‘would have/would’ve been’ —> correct
‘would of been’ —> wrong

Allied targetting is hardly nescessary, unless you are incapable to target with your mouse.
But even then, most healing is still built in each profession, and usually only time it’s needed is when someone didn’t dodge at the right time. Though there are occasions that is not completely possible, like in raids.

Two words: function gyro.
