Ok so, heres how im feeling about this whole pricing controversy…. First I can say im not happy about it but few people are, so… lets talk about the options. I feel almost pushed into the ultimate edition of HoT and heres why. The base version comes with…. the game… for $50? Thats not really worth it for this little content (I know people will throw out the no sub fee argument and while thats all nice and good, that was A-Nets choice to make, not mine and they must live with the financial consequences of it). The only redeeming factor to make it worth the $50 is in the even that raids are introduced. The deluxe edition comes with a character slot and a bunch of other crap that I probably wouldnt use. So we COULD say that $10 of that 75 goes to the character slot, $50 for the game, and $15 for the extra stuff I wouldnt buy normally. I would buy the 10 dollars character slot but still… its $50 for the game that I dont feel is worth the amount of content (being shown anyway). Now…. the ultimate edition…. This seems to be the best value in that you can say the expansion is really only costing $40 (the right price if not slightly high), the minis and crap I dont want would be part of the expansion (go freebies!), the character slot would remain $10 dollars bringing the price up to $50 for both the expac and the character slot, and THEN $50 worth of gems I probably will buy anyway over the course of my playtime. Unfortunately as a veteran of GW2 I feel like if I DONT buy the ultimate edition im getting taken advantage of. However, if I do buy it… well…. theres $100 gone…. I dont know what the solution is or even if there is one but I know that this announcement is not making me feel good and excited like a new product should. Not a fun experience so far.

TLDR: $50 gets you an overpriced expac, $75 same problem and over priced goodies, $100 version effectively makes the expac $40, the char slot $10, and the gems worth the $50 that they cost. All goodies with the $100 version could be seen as free in this version.

Why do people go to Costco?

I’m a scholar, thus I don’t take stance.

Why do people go to Costco?

Because you like something enough to buy it in bulk and due to that bulk quantity the normal price would be way above reasonable but single serving versions are a reasonable price if thats all you want. See… different situation.

If A-Net wanted to instantly reverse all this negative perception, they could simply say….

“We really value our loyal veteran players. As an extra bonus, all current GW2 players who pre-purchase any of the Heart of Thorns packages before [insert date here] will get an additional character slot for free.”

End of controversy, and watch the wallets come flying out!

No it won’t. People would start complaining that they don’t want the character slot and demand gems instead.

Some people just want to complain. You can’t stop them, all you can do is ignore them.

That is Anet’s whole plan. It is the only cost-efficient purchase.

Isnt that…. like… kind of crappy thing to do you your customers?…. The only version that is has a price reflecting is value is the most expensive one?

Yup, people have all the time in the world to complain about other people’s complaints, even when there are valid reasons to be upset. Money is important here, and people want to know if they should actually spend it or not. Then again, you’ve already spent it.

No.

Why do people go to Costco?

Because of good return policies. You literally can return anything.

They do this all the time. Inventory space, bank space, storage space, character slots. Tired of trying to manage all your loot? What you gonna do? Here’s something fun: Black Lion CHESTS drop, but not keys. What you gonna do, players? Eh?

Unfortunately as a veteran of GW2

Most of us are lumped into this category. Veterans that have the misfortune of either shelling $100 for additional items we’d buy later anyways or willfully allowing Anet to sucker punch us in the gut for the base or deluxe editions. For anyone new to GW2 it’s Christmas come early. Everyone else…..

BTW the rest of your post was thought-out and constructively put together. Good job.

I am just sad that what we get with our prepurchases are not limited, apparently you will be able to upgrade from standard to deluxe via gem store. If you get ultimate ur basically just getting a discount on gems
