Dear Anet,

This expansion is your shot to greatness, at this moment the MMO market is just terrible. No game out there atm interests players, and people are looking for something new! Make this expansion worth it then for them to come to gw2. Do not rush it and add everything to the expansion that is needed to be the best one ever. If you do this right, you will have big big sales and have a lot of new players. I can see that the expansion for what we have seen is very focused on the current players, but please make it as well for new or returning players. Even that we do not care that much about dungeons, it is something people want to see, it shows good on the box ( was an example).

I guess my point is Anet, this year is your shot to be the best and gain a lot of players!
So make this expansion as perfect as possible, delay it even !

This is an age old discussion. Looking at proper open world MMO’s, the fast pace released expansions turned out to be extremely buggy.

Also keep in mind that living world season 1 was a mistake. A lot of dev time was invested in temporary content. They admitted it was a mistake, but nobody can turn back time and get that lost time back (not even the chronomancer).

Also, people complain a lot bout delays, but it seems to have very limited impact. We waited over 5 years for GW2 (counting from the date it was announced), still it was a huge success. Even delays doesnt bother for sales. I’m curently playing elder scrolls online to bridge time till HoT on the PC. with the upcoming console release there is a lot of hype going while it was postponed several times and should have been released over a year ago shortly after the PC-release. Still people hype up and get it.

At Halbarz:

One thing I always liked bout Arenanet is that they don’t care bout what looks good on the box or what people might be expecting. They do things in their own way. They don’t add e.g. dungeons cause thats what supposed to be in an MMO, but they add content that they think we are going to like. Looking at what they did with GW2 I have to say that they know what we like.

I’m not reading too much into HoT to prevent being spoiled, but what I’ve udnerstand is that part of it will be instances that tell the story (like the story journal in the current game). In the living story season 2 they allready added a challenge mode to those instances. By nodging this up a bit more, you actually get content very simular to dungeons, but different. Just an example using your example

My point is that I know they don’t do hasty releases but take all the time they need, but they don’t release things that look good on the box, but they release things that are great to play.

Tera just got their expansion a few months ago after 2 years.

Necro Jesus is a thing apparently
The Zerker Bunker meta is the biggest bug in the game

Too late for this to have that kind of impact. ANet spent too much time catering to the wrong crowd. They have a PvP system that will never be eSports due to bad balance and poor class design, a PvE system that will never compete with a real MMO, and have ignored WvW, the one area that could have set them apart, completely.

It’s a shame really. WvW could have been great here as the combat is fast paced and intuitive. Much better than the alternatives. They’ve just lost all the competetive players.

Still waiting to see what “challenging content” is. If it’s open world crap with random people it will fail.

I’m curious, where did Arena Net say making the Living world season 1 was a mistake? Don’t get me wrong, I totally agree but I would love to read where they take responsibility for it.
