Any new weapon typess added?
The new class seems to use a polearm.

None that were disclosed during the presentation. It looks like some professions will be able to use other weapons previously unavailable. They gave the example of Necro being able to use a great sword. Keep in mind that the presenters mentioned several times that more will be disclosed about the expansion between now and release.
Doesn’t appear to be. For new to profession weapons I’ve been hoping for duel pistol’s on Mesmer and a whip on Thief for a long time. Looks like neither of those made it in this round of expansion.
Each profession will be getting access to at least one weapon type previously unavailable (so far we know for sure Ranger gets Staff, Necromancer gets Greatsword, Engineer gets hammer, Mesmer gets shield, and Theif possibly gets Rifle) through specialization.
However, as far as brand new weapon types, they didn’t mention or show any. Which doesn’t 100% mean there aren’t any, but I feel they would have mentioned it if there were, since its something people have been clamouring about for a while.
We DID see Rytlock using a spear or polearm of some sort, which may mean Revenant gets land-based spears (and could mean other professions might as well through specs, I could see Warrior getting it for instance), but I’m not sure if that really counts as “new” since spears do exist in the game. And its also not confirmed and might just be something Rytlock can do it cutscenes or just something only Rytlock can do period, or some are speculating it might just be a physical staff or something.
It seems kinda lame for rangers to get a two-handed weapon (five whole skills) while mesmers only get an off-hand weapon. I expect we will see more than one new weapon per profession.

Would be cool if a new weapon, but could also be a staff that is now being used as a melee weapon.

I do believe that was Rytlock wielding a staff in a very melee style fashion.

Yah, I personally would imagine that each specialization will get either a 2H weapon or a mainhand / offhand.
However, someone did point out that the specialization blurb on the official Heart of Thorns site says that specializations will give “A” weapon, so… I mean, I guess its possible that it literally is just a single weapon for each regardless of whether its mainhand, offhand, or twohand. I do agree that it would be kind of unfair and a bit disappointing to do it that way, which is why I personally feel a pair would be better, but who knows.
Another thing we’ll have to “wait and see” about, I suppose.

I would agree as well.
With each specialization only seemingly getting a single new weapon, I’m kinda hoping they give us more than one specialization to begin with, because it isn’t much of a specialization if there is only one option. That’s simply an upgrade.
The description about the Specializations implies only one new weapon is added to each class, and there’s nothing really to suggest they will be new weapons. It looks like spears might be added as a new, land weapon, but it might just be for Revenants and maybe the new weapon for a Specialization, like Warrior.
If so, it’ll be a bit disappointing. The Specializations seem really cool, don’t get me wrong, but there are still so many neat weapon ideas or obvious-seeming weapon options that I still want to see. I hope it’s just that they didn’t feel it was major enough to talk about with the other major features.

But didn’t it also say classes get multiple secondary classes?

They mention every skill and class mechanic changes so even if it was only shield your main hand weapon would get new skills.

Would love to see dual-wielding 1H sword thief in-action, if ANET will allow for it. Would make my whole year!
