Mainly talking about the Auric Basin event, but the Dragon stand one is relevant too.
Namely where it requires you to get all of them down within the same set time period.
Organizing a random map of pugs to do something like this (in a game as casual as guild wars 2) just isn’t happening often, there are the rare random strokes of luck, but other than that, it’s really not going to happen all too often, and is that a problem?
Another thing with the Auric basin Meta event is the difficulty of the sides is way out of proportion, east and north are pretty much what you would expect, relatively easy, not too challenging, possible. However south and west are a completely different story, unless you have an organized group there, it’s going to fail, no doubt about it.
Should these events be changed/tweaked, or is it just simply a matter of the community not being good enough? Is that a problem that they’re not good enough? Vinewrath was done splendidly i think, and i believe the future meta events should be based around that, there’s no ‘everything must die in x window’ but you’re rewarded if the pre-bosses do all die.
As the meta events are now, it’s incredibly easy for just a group of 2-3 people to entirely screw things over for the rest, simply because they either do not know what to do, or just feel like being trolls.
Edit: Don’t get me wrong, i want hard content, i love it, it gives me room to improve and think of ways to progress, however i think making the meta events the way they are at the moment for an open world map where anyone can turn up, is just pretty bad.
Also to add more on dragons stand, I’ve noticed that a lot of people are doing the meta event chain up to the part with the 3 bosses that need to die around the same time, and are leaving because the mobs in that area give no experience, and that’s what most people are after.

Tarir is perfectly fine in term of balance (maybe the south+west could be easier, and north/east harder), but it’s really enjoyable
I have more concerns for the Dragon’s stand meta event … when a group of 6-7 players are defending a pod, sometimes for absolutely no reason, there is 60 elites and 40 veterans spawning on your face …
Pods are designed to be defended by a small group, so it’s hard to understand those spawning rules, it’s trully random, it’s not a scaling issue, i saw this when we were literally 7 around one pod
Auric Basin is fine. Completed it yesterday with a handful of us willing to teach and coordinate the map. It’s not that hard, and as people learn the mechanics and increase their mastery it will succeed more often. Just give it time – it’s a really fun and challenging event.
Just did the meta events in every map again, and I can confidently say, that they’re too overtuned for the community to handle.
Too many people refuse to listen to advice and it’s actually starting to get aggrivating, because these events can be ruined by just 3-5 people not knowing what to do and upscaling everything to obscene levels..
Auric Basin is easier than Triple Trouble which actually requires a guild to take charge and explain all the mechanics before hand. The game is what, not even a week old? Give it some time for a greater portion of the population to understand the meta event fights. Just like Teq seemed REALLY hard back in the day, but is now on complete farm mode. People will get used to it.
I do hope so, because i really want to experience the entirety of the content laid out for us, but being gated behind a large chunk of people performing well is just really irritating to me, as I’m used to doing most things on my own or in a small group.
I’m still confused on how the ogre events in Auric Basic work. _
I understand wanting to progress, but am a little confused when people want to experience all the content of an MMO in a week. I find that a little strange. But to each their own I guess.
I think it’s fine, I’ve won the event twice now which I think is fine for just this short time after launch.
Meta events should have a wide range of difficulty. Some should be easy and always doable (Like SW) and some should be very challenging (Like Triple Trouble).
To be fair, 2-3 people cannot screw up any of these events. The damage thresholds are too large for people just randomly doing damage to screw it up that much. Now if a dozen or more people are doing their own thing there’s a chance you could fail, which is probably how it should be.
We are also not even a week into the expansion. I have a feeling in a month you’ll see random maps farming most of these meta events (hopefully one or two of them won’t be easily doable by completely random maps).
The short answer is no.
The only time we failed was because coat tail riders were AFK.
No they are not hard it’s just we don’t have the man power yet to make it blindfold easy. I’ve seen very VERY close attempts. Maps need to be fuller. However, majorly, on the same hand…
a.) The reason they are hard is that most players mindsets were to grind through a bunch content they “didn’t want” to get what they want and F’ the rest. That should change now. As more players get their elite spec. unlocked their focus will shift. There will be less likely people to come in during a Meta event asking about Hero Points and/or Mastery Points with no F’s to give about the Meta Event because they don’t have what they initially wanted and that events likelihood is not going to get them what the want.
Again I would speculate this will change shortly.
b.) The most common problem I see is that players just don’t communicate…like this is new content and players take 0, null, none, nada, zilch time, to explain to new players what’s up…but then of all the flavors these players choose to be salty because nothing is going right and do nothing but complain and harass others. Of course players go right about their business giving no F’s and leave.
This is where a lot of GW2 players dungeon, “elitist” mindset fail. Can’t/wont communicate. That same mechanic for the time being will not work.
Yes, the NPC prompts are nice but let’s be honest I presume most of us silently tell NPC’s kitten unless spoken to. However, if you listen to them they tell you almost how everything is supposed to go down.
NO, no no no nononononononono no they arent
its been a week, let people figure them out before saying this.
That’s typical PvE. People need some time to learn new things but they will learn fast.
It will be pretty okay difficulty after a month.
The only thing I am concerned with is the constant crashing and not being able to get back to the map you spent a lot of time working on. Has anyone figured out the best way to avoid it?
And Anet plz try to figure out the problem asap.

How is it enjoyable? I have been on the Auric Basin map for 3 days, at least 3 to 4 hours each time and have yet able to complete this meta event. I think this event needs some tweaks to make it possible to be completed on less populated map instances.
How do you find maps with enough people to even start these meta events? HoT is full of dead maps, LFG doesn’t help, all I see is SW 4/4 from 10 to 99% then VW and Teq. And Fractals.
It’s depressing.
Im not sure if it is the difficulty which is the issue, it is the number of metas requiring coordintion and full maps. Auric and Dragon Stand are great fun, but when the playerbase is so split, then the metas fail.
It is very early in The expac life, so once most ppl finish exploring and story, then we can see how it really plays out.
The short answer is no. In a couple of weeks they will get farmed like everything else.

Dragon Stand is fine how it is other than the random crashes for some people. Groups are getting overwhelmed because they’re not performing the full mechanic of that event.
There are currently three strategies for that event.
1) Have a party specifically to kite and DPS the boss. Have everyone else in a zerg whose sole purpose is to move around in a circle killing the preservers before they heal the collectors. Preservers respawn independently every 90 seconds from when they were last killed. Swiftness will need to be maintained and you’ll need to break the preservers bar quickly. This is the easiest way to beat the event as it is pug friendly.
2) Do have a party for the boss and parties for each of the collectors. You will also need a party or two for the three pods down below and the preservers for them. What the many people don’t realize is that those pods below are what infinitely spawn the mordrem when the three collectors are destroyed. If those pods are not destroyed, the collector parties will get overwhelmed.
3) Same as above but ignore doing the pods below. Instead, have one of the collector parties keep their collector at 10% or so while waiting for the other sections to catch up. What always seems to happen is that people try to keep all three collectors destroyed while waiting for others to catch up. All this does is create a never ending cycle of waiting for others to get caught up as they get overwhelmed and possibly wipe.
As far as scaling goes, it’s based on the players within the event circle. Having a Zerg at a single pod won’t scale it up any more than having a single person at a pod.
No…they really are not…
Last night, 3am I think it was, we still did an AB map(full pug map). Not everything should be as easy as the old Queensdale champ train.
One question though OP. Are you EU or NA?
I’d say the AB meta event is just about perfect. South needs a bit of an adjustment to make it more similar to the other paths but beyond that, I wouldn’t change anything.
The tangled meta event though is really hard. I haven’t been part of a map, organized or not, that has beaten it.
They’re fine the way they are. They aren’t difficult. They require coordination and give substantial reward for the effort.
That is the definition of good game design, and a great example of the type of cooperative PvE design Anet has always chased in their open world.
A game in which everything succeeded all the time with no coordination or effort led to a very stale game, and a lot of CDI feedback that people wanted exactly what we got
We got content that isn’t faceroll, even if you bring the world’s largest zerg, but is very easy to complete if the map decides to work as a team and complete it.
We got PvE that doesn’t suck
I just wish there weren’t map completion items gated behind the meta events.
I have to do Auric Basin’s event so many times before I get one that succeeds. I shudder to think of trying to do this on all my alts, like I would normally have done.
People are getting better at them. Ocotovines is done often by pure map commanding, Dragonstand is not that hard since the new circle strat, Verdant Brick it’s kind ahard to find Securitry level 4 maps but people kill all 5 legendaries already.
Only Tangled depths is kinda badly designed imo.
