Was fun for a few hours. But after playing the first beta i was already over it. When it came out for the other betas that followed, i ended up uncking the stronghold check box.

Is stronhold got boring this fast to the majority of spvp players or is it just me?

I did not get bored, I just did not want to spend the time coming up with a Stronghold build for a weekend.

But from chatting with folks.. looks maybe i’m not.
I think stronhold could have more potential with some tweaking & lots of work to it.

Its a new PvP game type that will be thrown out by ANET and forgotten about like Courtyard and Spirit Watch.

It’s kinda the point of my thread.. & it’s not my first time ranting about it. I’m hoping maybe other maps & mods will come out of it. Cuz Stronhold beta or no beta, its not doing it.

Randalf, your right about that. I have not. & for good reason. What could i add that has not bin said before on so many threads? Besides i’m tired trying to reason & add my cup of tea. This is more a cry for something more then whats offered on the plate. & i’m not saying that some ppl do not appreciate stronghold, but i am saying there prolly more that does not.

I haven’t had a chance to play it enough to be bored with it as yet. Still looking forward to the mode coming into the live game. We’ll see if that view changes after I have freely available access to it.

I have issues with this map based on the beta. My issues are as follows:

1. Its an SPVP map which can be completed without even a single fight. Both teams just focus on objectives and race for the lord. I had 2-3 matches like this, or very close to it where everyone was objective focused and disengaged even if they threw a couple blows at each other, there was zero actual player kills.

Map needs changes that would prevent teams from avoiding fights, force more combat.

2. The summoned archer NPCs are too weak by far. They are like regular mobs which go down with extreme ease and do not do any meaningful amount of damage even on non-tanky builds. They need significantly higher toughness stat, tripled or at least doubled and need to do 3 times the damage.

Players shouldnt be able to basically ignore them and have them simply fall from cleave or AOE on other targets. A pair of archer NPCs should become the main target, players should kill them or be killed by them if they fail to do so.

3. The “Summoned Lord” mechanics are unclear. Map makes waypoint and screams that we are summoning lord or something like that, but you go to the point indicated and tehre is nothing there. meanwhile the game still screams for people to get there. Then the waypoint disappears and still nothing happens.

After a while of this I just completely started to ignore the in-game announcement of lord summoning. It became pointless for me to go to that point that was indicated on the map. At some point the lord got summoned anyways regardless if I was there or not and it wasnt when I went there at the time the game told me to. This needs to be changed or made clear within the game.

4. The trebuchets on this map are very useless. They seem to be tehre just to distract players who do not know any better and effectively remove them out of fights. They are too slow to move and fire on mobile fights and there are no structural / stationary objectives for them to be used on. Any player sitting on the treb is basically a loss for his/her team, as the team is now handicapped while the treb is completely useless due to the above.

The only time treb would be useful, is if players fought in middle most if not the whole match, but this is just not the case.

Personally, i like the Stronghold mode, i don’t like the current map much.
Here’s hoping for a better maps in the future that capture more of the MOBA magic.
Otherwise, i didn’t play much stronghold betas aside from the first two for two main reasons:
1) No stronghold dailies. Because i don’t usually have a lot of time to play, i aim for daily pvp completion so as to boost my reward tracks a bit.
2) Its beta, so your acomplishments on Stronghold are “not real” if you can say that in a virtual world, but the beta environment makes me want to try it, create my opinion, and then give feedback. Most changes after the first couple betas were too small for me to care about reviewing the game mode much more.

But i’m pretty excited about it. I just hope Arena Net works on having pre-set builds, AND ESPECIALLY, separate weapon equiping between game modes and builds. I can’t tell you how often i ended up with the wrong weapons on unranked with my guard because i hopped into a match straight from PvE, and forgot to switch weapons (And do remember that also means i will end up with traits for the weapons i have in my inventory instead of the ones equipped).

Me and most of the people that I play PvP with just don’t like the concept of Stronghold. I want as less PvE as possible in my PvP. But that said, it was pretty fun to play a bit of stronghold during beta. I wouldn’t play more than once in a while, but I guess that some people probably love it.

I don’t like MOBAs. I’ll give it a try when the expansion arrives, not before. Yet I highly doubt I will play it more than a few times.

Courtyard was a bonus feature that was never meant to be heavily supported. And people were clamoring for new game modes, so they’re focusing on that instead.

I think Stronghold is a lot more fun than Conquest, but before the announcement of Leagues, I saw no reason to keep playing it.

dats cause a long period of time in gw2 pvp is only about 3 or 4 matches…

I really enjoyed stronghold because it didn’t pretty much force u to play a tank that just sits on a point doing knockbacks like spvp has been for 3 years.
