Ascended Armor
Why Anet? Why would you make such a gold sink for an armor set that looks EXACTLY the same as the old ascended gear. What a pathetic design. There is absolutely no point in crafting the new gear. Unfortunately, I learned this too late.
Well, if you, for example, have a zerker ele, you’d probably want to craft a brand new condi armor for your necro instead of simply converting your ele armor (unless you want to delete the character). Also, I have both ascended celestial set and zerker set on my ele, because crafting celestial armor is timegated so I don’t want to just convert it to zerker stats.
So yeah, there is a point in crafting new gear

No, what you do is craft a new set of ascended armor, soldier or some cheap stuff and then you convert that to the new stat you want. Way cheaper than actually crafting the new stat armor

I’m too lazy and horrible with numbers to do the math here, but does that actually work?

Depends, the new items that need jewelled patches with the fulgurite quantities make it very worth while just converting. Otherwise can’t see much point.

I was thinking about crafting Viper’s for my necro, so good to know that this might be worth looking into. Thanks for the info.

After contemplating how to continue crafting, I’ve decided to continue to craft the new stat ascended pieces (Viper’s.)
The materials for fulgarite for the armor take longer to acquire, but I will be able to acquire the items while experiencing the new content of HoT. If you have already crafted ascended pieces, you should definitely convert those to the new stat if you plan on using that armor permanently.
I’d like to rescind my comments about the design of the crafting system. I see now it is not necessarily as easy to craft the gen 1 ascended armors. It would however have been nice for a new skin for the generation 2 ascended items.

Vipers is the one that it’s most worth doing so for as it’s currently (or was a couple months ago) the most expensive to craft by a large margin
well 2 reasons to the answer why ,
first if we could just change the stats free then legendery gears would be meaningless( if they make it like legendry weapons wich we can change stats anytime )
and second reason is they did us a favor , coz before it we had to craft a new set
and we should be thankful coz they did as they promissed
they dont want us to go all the way back and craft a new 1 , coz in hot many meta for classes changed
