And here I thought the genuinely skillful would relish the challenge of something that tests them to the utmost rather than being trivialized by having a higher tier of gear than it’s designed for.

Sure. But i doubt they’d consider actually getting that gear an important part of said challenge. Because it really isn’t.

We’ve already seen content scaled for exotic gear in a post-ascended world is not a challenge. It’s boring.

Well, then there exist an obvious solution to both problems – make ascended easily obtainable.

I want a fight that takes BOTH skill and preparation.

Gearing up is not preparation. It’s just a grind gate.

That’s why in content that’s about skill (sPvP) all gear is made easily accessible to everyone.

The devs are disagreeing with that “gearing up isn’t preparation” statement. Gear and roles will become important come HoT launch… And yes, ascended is meant to be a gold sink and grind as well. It all goes hand and hand intentionally.

You can’t compare spvp to raids, fractals or wvw either. In spvp they want an even playing field among a small group of players competing against a small group of players.

New Main- 80 Thief – P/P- Vault Spam Pro

221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.

why should I get ascended armor anyways now since there is gonna be legendary armor that will be any stat i need for the armor type. So glad i choose to make more money over ascended armor that only real place in fractals. and as they said you could have mix ascended pieces and exotics I mean the most basic of ascended kitten should be every item is ascended besides the armor

If it’s like legendary weapons, you’ll still need a different set of runes. A condition build with scholar runes would probably actually be worse than an exotic set running the right runes, and they’ll probably also cost as much as 10+ ascended pieces of the same type.

Legendaries sound like a good investment in theory, but, in practice they’re not all that great.

Which would defeat the purpose for which Ascended was introduced to the game — to give people something to do after they collect a full set of exotic gear. The description of intent that ascended gear require time in between exotic and legendary spans was quite explicit at the time.

That’s why in content that’s about skill (sPvP) all gear is made easily accessible to everyone.

And if that were the Devs desire we’d just be using our sPvP specs inside the raid instance. Which would hardly take any new code at all.

Which is probably the solution you should be asking of them. It would get rid of prep time entirely.

I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

Of course they do. After all, they do intend now to have us “preparing to have fun”.

Well, that didn’t require ascended having better stats.

They have made a quick and not very thought out decision due to panic then. They have followed it lately with another decision, that (again) runs counter to their original design. As a result, they are running now with three conflicting sets of assuptions about ascended gear. As a result, the whole system doesn’t have sense anymore. In order to have it, they will need to drop some of those assumptions.

Yes. The ones they may decide to drop are that “this game isn’t about your gear, but about your skills” and “we don’t want you to prepare to have fun”, and as a result turn GW2 into a game meant for hardcores. I wouldn’t like it, but they are the devs, they can do that – but i’d rather they did it clean and in the open, instead of claiming one thing and doing another like they do currently.

Actions, not words.

Exactly. I think many people who are eager for HOT will end up being disappointed, due to the misleading information.
