First I’ll start with a disclaimer that I’m am by no means a great or even that good of a player, but I just wanted to drop in my initial opinions of the content during the beta weekend.
Elite Specs:
Dragon Hunter:
- abit unimpressive/underwhelming and needs some more work.
- I felt the attacks were abit slow, ended with my using the quickness elite alot to speed it up.
- I didn’t use the traps much as I wasn’t too keen on em, only one I really used was the whirling blades one (Procession of Blades) and that was just dropping it during a fight for more damage.
- Virtues were ok, I likes the spear and wings though I think they need buffing abit, I didn’t get much use out of the shield one, but this is most likely my own lack of skill in using it right.
Reaper:
- I really liked the reaper, it has made the necro a playable profession for me as I’m no good with the current version of it.
- I like the greatsword and its skills and I love the reapers shroud.
- although I think the greatsword does need a buff in some way, either speed it up (which is against the concept you were going for so not likely) or give it a damage buff as at the moment its a little on the low side damage wise.
- For me the shouts didn’t get much use, probably the only one I would use regularly is “Nothing can save you”
Tempest:
- I liked the new stuff, it definatly helps with how I like to play my elementalist, which is a close range dagger/dagger.
- The attunment overloads were fun and had impressive visuals.
- didn’t use the warhorn much as it didn’t fit with how I play, but that may just be a lack of familiarity it and it’s skills.
- Shouts again were not really impressive to me, I think they could use some work.
Chronomancer:
- Didn’t get a chance to try it as I used up all 4 of my beta slots on the other elite specs and the revenant, but from the streams I watched of it, it looks cool.
New Profession:
Revenant:
- Defiantly alot better than the last time I played it during the revenant beta weekend.
- The shiro legend was really good, its become my favourite legend at the moment.
- the buffs to damage etc have really helped it.
- I was reserved about the loss of customisation due to the slot skills being determined by the legend but I think it has been implemented in a good manner that made it turn out good.
- not to keen on the fact that under water you have no choice about what legends you can equip as out of the 4 legends you have only two can be used underwater.
- Adding weapon swap was a great idea.
- the energy mechanic is good, makes me think of my Guild Wars 1 days of mico managing energy and loss/gain levels.
- I think the choice of low/no cooldowns because of the energy usage was a good one.
- Overall it was quite a fun time time playing it and I can’t wait to see the elite spec for the revenant.
Map/Content:
- The beta content was really good, I has alot of fun playing the story and it was really interesting.
- I didn’t spend long in verdent brink due to the fact that I only got 6fps when in and of the HoT areas but what I saw looked good.
To finish up I just want to say it was a really good beta weekend and I I want to say thank you Anet for giving us the opportunity to take part and I can’t wait to see what new things you release and what changes you make from our feedback.
