Bad wording
Well, why do they get it for free?
The rest of us had to pay for the base game, and now they’re giving it away for free.
It’s a rip-off and a half, this is.
we love to give them the tools they need
to have big, important events!” Stop lying, ANet.
It’s basically what it comes down to. They offer the base game for free to new players who would be reluctant to pay $50 for the expansion and 50 more for the base game. But the way it’s worded in the prepurchase screen makes it sound like vets have to buy the core game again and that it’s included in the price of the expansion.
Base game have been selling for $10 many times. The wording is just manipulated to pretend that us vets aren’t deprived of anything since we already paid for the original game already.
So what your saying is that because they are reluctant they pay 50 and early adopters pay 100 or close to that. I think that mostly the issue. One might say will you enjoyed the game for so long but I am sure that people would paid 50 3 months ago are not getting refunds. If they do that would be interesting.

I don’t know, I kinda like the idea of having more new players, it’s good for the game.
This is the real problem, the wording of it all makes veteran buyers feel like they’ve just been rip-off/scammed.
Most companies make it a policy to make the buying process as inconvenient or as pleasant as possible, but Anet’s policy seems to be, ‘lets make everyone feel like they were just scammed, when they weren’t, for trolls’
Anet feeds off of unnecessary and misinformed rage on the forums
Let’s not forget that all HoT really adds will basically just be a new area and a new class.
Someone else posted this in another thread.. Looks like we are getting more then a new area and class. Nice try though
- Core Specs Rehauled
- New Specializations
- New Weapon Skills
- New Post lvl 80 leveling system
- Rumored 5 maps of content
- New Legendaries
- New Wallet
- New Guild Halls
- New Class
- New Armor Skins
- New Weapon Skins
- New Races to go lore nutz about
- New Boss Battle with Mordey (Hopefully better than Zhaitan)
- New WvW map
- New sPvP mode
Almost all that you listed is actually added to base game for everyone. Pure HoT additions are:
- Revenant
- 9 new specializations
- new area
- new legendaries
- some new skins
- new story to play
The rest you listed is included for every basic GW2 account.
And the problem behind uproar is not about content amount, but the LACK of buying upgrade only, FAW fraud “base game needed to play” (was changed ninjastyle quickly), and lack of any appretiation to veterna players, not even giving tham 1 godkitten mere kittylicious character slot…
“He will improve everything that ArenaNet added to infinity and beyond.”

Yeah, I could feel the pain of a guy who bought the base game like 2 months ago (I think you’re eligible for a refund under a month.) Now, as I’m clocking over 4000 hours on the core game, I can’t find a reason to complain myself as an early adopter.

How are they going to make legendaries, skins and specs restricted to HoT?

I can think of a few ways.
- Specializations (like the Chronomancer and Druid) will be treated like trait lines that can only actually be unlocked if you have the expansion.
- Skins (maybe even including legendaries) could be soulbound or accountbound on acquire, and only obtainable in expansion-only zones.
- There could be an additional filter to the Trade Post that regulates that expansion-only items can only be purchased by players who own the expansion.

My thought as well. If you purchase the game 3 years ago you’ve gotten your money’s worth.
This outrage was predicted months ago when people were asking for season 2 to be included for free. I wonder what ArenaNet’s marketing team was thinking. Surely they also expected this. A lot of these complaints could have been avoided by simply making a difference between new and existing accounts. Why not sell HoT+GW2 for $59.99 or give a character slot to existing accounts? I can only assume they intentionally wanted this, as the alternative is not good. Perhaps they’re trying to flag loyal accounts for some purpose.
