You can waypoint out of the starting area and go anywhere in Pact Tyria that you wish, without touching the storyline. I think you can come back to do the story later, in another thread someone pointed out where to find the green star.

They could just skip that part, actually you have to play all the history and if you do it like a couple of times it get repetitive…
