Beta characters will be wiped?
yes,
the key part wa the phrase at the top of your screen when playing beta saying all progress & items will not be kept from the Beta (that plus they gave us 4 beta slots, if they didnt wipe the beta progress we would end up with 4 additional char slots for free)
Thank you. I saw the “all progress and items from beta will not be kept” notice but wasn’t sure if characters were considered part of that. I fully expected them to be wiped. Thanks again. Looking forward to release of HoT!
I thought the beta chars were already gone. Mine are.
ANet may give it to you.
Yep, just checked and mine are gone too. That’s cool; now I can think how I really want to make my Revenant look.

i hadn’t noticed but yes mine are gone now, they were there a day or two ago though… i think… or was i just that drunk?
No, they’ve been gone for a while, and the slots finally removed a couple days ago.
Beta Names were finally released yesterday as well, finally, for those who used the name they actually planned to use on Friday.
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon

Based on a comment in a thread in the bug forum, they been gone since the 13th. The slots were still there for another day or two then those were removed.

It amazes me that this question is asked everytime players play a beta and release hits. For future reference just assume the answer is yes you will lose all beta progress (not to mention it was on your screen the entire time you played beta that progress would not be saved).

Apparently, in some games beta characters (at least looks etc) are kept when the game launches. (I confess that I don’t understand why any developer would risk the sorts of errors that would be likely.)

I’ve never heard of or seen any beta characters being saved for a live publish of any game.
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
It has happened but it so few and far between, you have a better chance at seeing a leprechaun riding a unicorn.
The closest I’ve seen was in ArcheAge, where character creation was so complicated that you could save your settings as often as you wanted while you crafted your look. The saved files could then be sent to other people and they could load them to instantly have the appearance you’d created.
Then of course in game you looked only vaguely similar to what you’d made in the creator. But at least you could preserve all the work of making the alt; I used files made in beta to make my live launch characters. It affected appearance only, not gear, levels, stats, class, anything of the sort.
GW2’s creator is actually fairly simple compared to most any MMO save WoW that I’ve seen; in WoW you pick a face, pick a hair, pick colors, done. (And horns etc for things like Tauren). So it’s fairly easy, relatively speaking, to screenshot your GW2 sliders and replicate them later on a new alt if you wish, though some things will be subtly off.

Since this is directed at me, the OP, let me just say that you know, it is actually possible that things change sometimes. Amazing, I know. And “progress” may or may not refer to characters. In Guild Wars, yes, it has so far. But life is not always the same. Also, keep in mind that there are people new to GW all the time. Happy questing.

Mine were gone over the weekend. shrug
