Better name than Druid
Druids are awesome. I will be glad to become a druid.
Wait, you think “Dragonhunter” is cool, but Druid is bad?
Druids are tied to Guild Wars lore. It’s fine.
well some of the others are lame too, but I like my ranger a lot, I like it not to be JUST Druid.
I agree. It should use a name with a higher concept. Like how Guardians are hunting dragons become “Dragonhunters.” Druids will be Staff Rangers, so they should become “Strangers.”

Will update once Path of Fire releases.

If I’m not mistaken every elite spec now has (at least) one of these threads.
Hurray… I guess?

I’m pretty sure Chronomancer and Reaper do not.

Chronomancer does (or did) as anyone with taste would find that it does not fit the mesmer theme. But mesmers are fickle and so hungered for some attention from daddy that they would accept to be called literally whatever just to be somewhat useful.
How anyone could complain about Druid is beyond me, I truly thought there would not be a thread of someone complaining about Druid as a name…
The amount of complaining the people on this ofrum do about the names of specializations is out of this world. Have you read the names of most of your skills and traits lately?
Sometimes names are dumb. nobody cares, as long as it works.

How about Planthunters?

I have to disagree. Mesmers have always been one of the most ‘useful’ professions. Their utilities are amazing and it’s very rare to see one kicked from a group.
As for ‘Chronomancer’ not fitting, Mesmers are reality warpers and mental manipulators. They already have a few time/space manipulation abilities (including the well used ‘Time Warp’ and ‘Portal’ skills) in their skill pool and so the Chronomancer seems like a natural expansion of that. Along with Reaper and Druid, Chronomancer is easily one of the most thematically fitting Elite Specialisations.
I hate to be this guy but just be glad you didn’t get “dragonhunter” or “daredevil”.
I do pity the guardians and thieves. Both those names are embarrassingly bad. Druid has some lore behind it as well as a place in MMO history.

I would honestly rather choose a name like Treehunter over only getting one BWE for testing and iteration.

lol
I’m not sure we’ve seen too many drastic changes to any elite spec so far. However, Anet does value the “iteration process” so even after release I think they’d be willing to change things up if they wanted to.
I’m not 100% convinced they will actually do so by community feedback. I mean look at how many negative post there are about the dragonhunter name. I’d say most actual changes won’t come until months after release and highly doubt “name changes” are on the table. Actual game play and design may mean more to them.
That’s not really any consolation though is it.
Druid is a classic RPG archetype, Dragonhunter however is poor at best.
I mean every class is a ‘dragonhunter’.
(Scrapper’s a bit lazy too.)
Crystal Desert
Scrapper, and Chronomancer are good name lah :P they are actually something new….. but if only all scrappers are asura … where as Druid … ARGH ! when someone says druid you think Druid you don’t think GuildWars2.

Druids have been a thing in the lore since GW1.

I must say, as simple as this post is, this is probably one of the most opinionated posts I’ve seen in a while that is ignorant of the true backstory of Guild Wars. The irony is that he claims dragonhunter is a cool name when it was something new solely created for HoT whereas druid has been around since GW1. To top it off druid is a standard MMO class. I’ve never heard most of the new elite spec names introduced in HoT.
tl;dr someone’s salty af
But to add, here’s the wiki about druids in GW1. It may give us insight as how the druid spec will be based off of the description and picture. The oakheart matches the druid art that was introduced a couple days ago.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Druid
Hm, reading further through the oakheart link in that wiki, it states:
“Oakhearts are large Plant creatures that can be found in many verdant areas of Tyria. They are usually ranged fighters, throwing rocks, but can also sometimes be Monks.”
Monks in GW1 had divinity, healing, prayer, and smiting based skills… so there is a chance we may get a pet like that, or the ranger himself has skills like these.

those are all dead and has become trees spirit. … This is a players’ sincere request, weather ArenaNet wants to change it or not, I am only asking, wheras all of you are just trolling this thread with your OPINIONATED comments :P

Sorry if it sounded aggressive but I must tell you, you are definitely a huge minority in this one as Druid is by far my most favorite elite spec name I just hope they follow through with the actual elite spec itself!
i hope the specs are good! otherwise ranger would look so stupid holding a staff and is called a Druid….
Can there be a better name than Druid for Ranger Specilization?
…Just look at all the cool specialization name for the other profession., come on, and Druid for Ranger ?
You think “dragonhunter” or “daredevil” or <gasp> “herald” is better than “druid”? Most of the names are, in my opinion, standard MMO/RPG titles and concepts. I like Chronomancer and the Engineer elite is scrappy; I’m not impressed with the rest.
Or, put another way: your mileage will vary and there’s almost no way ANet can come up with 9 great names for the elite specs that will “wow” everyone.
Of all the things you may want to complain about with respect to rangers, you choose this?
‘Druid’ is probably one of the better names anyway. This is not on the list of the top 500 things that need to be changed.

i like druid better then i do few others actually think druid might be the best name they gave
Needs to have boomkin.
I fail to see why the names of the elite specializations are even an issue. Its not like they are flashing in big neonsigns above your character and your profession remains the same.
Druids are tied to Guild Wars lore. It’s fine.
This.
Out of all the elite specializations, Druid and Scrapper names are actually tied to pre-existing lore (though Scrapper’s lore is GW2-originating while Druid’s lore is GW1-originating).
Chronomancer kind-of has an origin in lore, but it’s scrapped lore for the scrapped Utopia GW1 campaign.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
I agree, bearstaff would have been a much better.
Reminds me of Advanced Dungeons and Dragons back in the day. Rangers after a certain level could use druid spells… Guess they are taking a page out of d&d
I disagree that druid is a good name.
It should be called, Nature Warrior. That is the best name ANet could call the druid.
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant
Could be far worse
you could be called Olive Branch.

Only those who don’t know anything about the lore of the game feel this way. That is people who ignore stuff that happened in Guild Wars 1, which is contained in Guild Wars 2 lore.

My sarcasm detector seems to be broken good sir or madame. It can’t tell if serious or not.
My OPINIONATED comment that I will be posting in this thread that is part of a forum that anyone can post in :::
….Druid is fine. Nerf Dragon Hunter please, the name is too OP! Thanks Anet!

Look at the latest edition. The Ranger/half druid in that book is pretty similar to the Ranger in this game.
That or everyone wanted to be like Aragorn and somehow ended up being tree hugging hippies instead.
