For all the talk of wanting Guild Halls to be the new hub, this needs to be a thing. Our first completed building in our hall was the Arena, and we were blown away. Not just by how grand it is, this giant pillar with a full-sized arena atop it, but with it came a new waypoint, new NPCs…
We kind of assumed that all finished buildings would have a similar increase in function when completed, and were kind of let down when they didn’t. They’re just cosmetic upgrades. I would’ve bet MONEY on Market Restoration II coming with a Black Lion Trader along with it, and it didn’t.
I’m rather hoping Workshop Restoration II comes with a full array of crafting stations other than Scribing, but…I kind of know it won’t, sigh.
I’m gonna withhold final judgement until we hit level 40 and unlock Further Exploration, and if THAT doesn’t add some new functionality to the Guild Hall I will be officially disappointed.
Won’t happen. Anet needs to sell VIP passes. Besides WvW borderland has everything.
They said that they didn’t want to decrease the importance of cities, so guild halls will probably never have a Trading Post.

They say a lot of things, some of which are seemingly contradictory. Still, the trend seems to be: what happens outside the guild halls stays outside the guild halls.
Unfortunately, that presents some unnecessarily awkward gameplay scenarios:
A further problem is that there’s continued pressure on home borderlands for crafting stations, since this allows quick access and returns each character to their previous location. It also doesn’t cost any silver for waypoints and it’s generally easier to use than most city hubs. Currently, home BLs aren’t queued as much, but during peak periods, this provides unnecessary competition with those wanting to WvW.
tl;dr Cities have never been relevant … except to the players that prefer to use cities. ANet ought to adapt to the new world (as they have asked us to do) and accept that GHs are a more appropriate hub for most services.
They should instead make cities more relevant by providing them with unique services, unlikely to be appropriate for GH. Examples include: the legendary and other collection NPCs, Sonder the Seller, the Activity NPC, dungeon vendor, and the Mystic Forge.

That’s kind of funny since Lion’s Arch is garbage when it comes to convenience unless you really need fractals or the forge. Both HOTM and WvW are more convenient than it, as well as Rata Sum but it seems lively.
Plus not everyone hangs out with their guild all day anyways. But it’s more like I feel it’s more discouraging to go there if it’s not good for convenience, especially given the other options that are also quick.
In the end, the silly thing is that PvP probably doesn’t need a TP person as much. But perhaps that’s why they’re selling those passes in the gem store…
I suspect it’s because they don’t want people disappearing into guild instances to do things that cities are already set up to do. They don’t want cities emptying out because everyone is going to the guild hall to do their banking, trading, crafting. It may be better and more convenient for the individual player to ‘have it all in the guild hall’ but that doesn’t mean it’s better for the game. It’s never an improvement to the game to have the cities empty out because instanced areas were made better and more convenient. Just see the complaints in WoW about how no one is in the cities anymore since everyone is hanging out in their garrison.
