as a staff ele i feel like this trait should be a default functionality like what they where doing for necros wells, i dont want to be forced into arcane line just to get this trait.
i want specialize water magic to get those damage modfiers 10% scholar rune-like with free water reduce cooldown, damage per boon and 20 damage in vulned foes while in water that is streamly stronk with frostbow.
but all of those will not happen if blasting staff stay being a trait because i hate using staff untraited.

This is the exact same thing I was wondering about then I read about the new trait system.

Blasting Staff is pretty mandatory when using a staff. So this would mean that the arcana tree is mandatory for staff ele’s in the xpac.

You never know, they might make it so you won’t even care about blasting staff. They might introduce different combined traits that might make a blend of capabilities that are more exciting and interesting to you than just slightly larger AoEs.

Not disagreeing with you as I like to use BS when I play staff, but just keep an open mind and keep things in perspective. You might only care about traited staff right now because there really aren’t many other good options. Choices are suppose to be hard (or at least not easy)

Hopefully this one ends up like the necro wells. Eles shouldn’t have to trait to make their AoE larger. Also, can we please just get rid of the falling damage trait for every class and replace it with interesting mechanics.

This trait change is awful. They should have removed terrible trait lines that no one is using kinda like they removed underwater weapons from the BL skins. Except with traits, they should have replaced the bad ones with interesting options.

well i cant remember if it was on demo or live stream someone said that the range indicator of blasting staff was using the exact range(because now it uses the default range even when traited) this might actually because larger range became the default?

the falling damage trait it comes to my mind too, theyre not useless trait theyre not much used either, some wvw build take it and a must in a jumping puzzle build(usually mesmer) idk how anet will compensate them

The Falling damage trait is something I like using while leveling and then I get rid of it after I’m not running all over the world all the time, but it is definitely a nice trait for certain things.

Blasting staff was confirmed (for now) on livestream to become default staff functionality.

The character they were using might also just have been new, since those created after whichever patch “fixed” the AoE indicators display them properly, whereas older characters still display the incorrect radius in PvE(/WvW). But yes, since the radius increase is now baseline, hopefully this means the indicators will finally be fixed for everyone.
