I decided to harvest a few Blood Rubies from the nodes in Bloodstone Fen. With a magic find of 288%, I harvested a total of 7 Blood Rubies from 23 nodes on 3 different toons before the nodes disappeared. That is 10%, or 1 out of 10 swings.

REALLY?

I gave up on farming for them. The efficient way is to buy/use the home node (3 a day). If you go to the zone there are the dailies too. The drop rate from mining is insanely low.

Magic find doesn’t affect gathering. You should use some kind of gathering boost.

It seems to me that the drop rate for Blood Rubies is similar to that of T6 gems from ore. I wasn’t really surprised as ANet has relied on low material drop rates for incremental rewards since launch. However, I do have to laugh when I go to Ember Bay, harvest Petrified Stumps, and don’t get any Petrified Wood. At least Bloodstone Nodes always give Bloodstone Dust.

Isn’t there a cap on the number of rubies you can get a day? Like, 15?

That’s pretty much how it always was with the rubies. They had a horrible drop rate since the beginning.
(well, there was some adjustments being done to it in the first month, so almost from the beginning)

Actions, not words.

^ This. Always have your Guild’s Gathering bonus on when heading to the LS3 maps. You might want to consider a Gathering booster and banner too if you really, really need those in a hurry. After many hours farming the new map trophies across all the new maps, I can confirm that it’s a subtle but noticeable boost.

I found a reference, and the limit is 50 per day.

Also, I think the reason they drop slowly is because there’s almost nothing to spend them on. A ring, an amulet, and a back piece are the only things.

It’s because those three are the best three in the game, de facto legendaries (stat switch any time for 100 UM).

True, but compare to winter berries, where there are a bunch of minis and similar gear available. There’s so much more to buy that the farm rate had to be higher.
