Body Blocking as well in HoT?!
If it’s enemy only , fine. If it’s ally only or both, I smell a metric ton of griefing.
Body blocking would create more problems than it would solve. There are plenty of narrow locations that could be blocked by oblivious newbies in dungeons that would cause their partymates to rage and be a lot more kick happy than they are currently. Overall, it would be a negative change, and things are fine now as is anyway.
Collision Detection? Did I miss something? You speak as if something interesting has been announced but I haven’t heard anything about collision detection.
the above post could be complete and utter nonsense.

I presume its an idea spun off from the new collision sensitivity of the camera which helps prevent objects blocking the camera movement

The only thing I see in that article about collision is fixing the fact that if you get very close to something, the camera goes all crazy. I really don’t get how people can get “body blocking” from that.
Enemy collision detection = good. Ally collision detection = bad.
Enemy collision detection = good. Ally collision detection = bad.
Gs guardians will ragequit.
Did you guys read the same article as I did?
I’m pretty sure the article was referring to collision between the camera and various environment obstacles. Not players and mobs. Or players and other players.

Just some people with wishful thinking, trying to link anything they can together.
“collision” is a development term. there’s “collision” just to make sure your characters don’t fall through the ground, “collision” to damage enemies when you use attacks, “collision” when the camera has to move around objects, “collision” when you step into an AoE, and so on. and those are just examples in GW2, there isn’t a single game, ever that has no collision detection.
it’s not necessarily a literal collision of objects. it absolutely does not mean body blocking is an upcoming feature, especially because body blocking is a nightmare in any MMO.

In this context it purely means for the camera. The Ready Up episode, when demonstrating a norn running through a woods pre-and-post-change, talked about how we will be able to use a slider to set our collision detection threshold. At the setting they had, thin trees never triggered a swoop in of the camera and one thicker tree triggered a very short one.
It has nothing to do with characters body blocking each other.
Thanks for the correction.
I’ve been able to body block people in sPvP who have melee assist enabled. They get immobilized when surrounded by minions. :P
Sooo yeah, this was talking about the camera. Not the game.
Body blocking? LOL
Get ready to see a line of noob full tank Warriors/ Guardians at WvW doorway blocking anyone from entering XD.
Press 11 – one of the options there is called “Melee Attack Assist”
If you highlight over it, it basically says “enable body blocking against enemies”. Of course, this is one-sided in that enemies body block you but you can’t body block them.
So technically, already in the game, somewhat. The article only talks about the camera zooming in when something gets between you and it – in that it won’t until a lot of “somethings” get between you and the camera.
If it gets put in, then this actually counts as something else Anet is removing from their manifesto/early proclamations about how GW2 will play.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
To venture a guess: body blocking is more or less impossible to incorporate without alienating a large portion of the player base. Many people play this game on subpar hardware, the additional calculations required would make it unplayable during zerg content and wvw.
The game is focused on stacking and blasting, how is this gonna work then??
As i would love collision to be ingame, i dont think its something that will be added to this game, cause of his mechanics.
But they would add collision to enemies so you dont just runpass through them, and u actually have to push them from your way xD
Stop panicking, guys! This is purely a camera change, as noted by several posters in this thread. There’s no need to start railing at ANet for wrecking the game by adding collision detection.
