I was really enthusiatic about this new episode. I thought anet learned from their mistakes and would let us dive more deeply into HoT gameplay, but actually except from numerous mushroom jumps and gliding (which was pretty cool tho, but the fails…) we learned almost nothing – we did know about gliding, mushrooms and masteries.

I was hoping to see new weapons and specialisations or to learn how revenant gameplay looks like-really, anything, I know expac isn’t finished yet but telling us anything or showing us anything to make us hype is good for the hype train. Sadly, none of those appeared.

On the other hand, I enjoy watching Rubi telling us about new stuff and showing fanart and I know she puts alot of heart into it, but personally I would love PoI to become more spectacular – to contain more action, more news, maybe something from behind the scenes.

To sum up – Rubi, make PoI greater. I apreciate your hard work but I know you can do alot better. Still looking forward to another PoIs!!!

They told you in advance exactly what this POI was going to be about. Straight from the news post…

~ “We’ll get an overview of how the system works and what it does, and we’ll take a look at some of the Masteries in action”

If you expected specializations and Revenant gameplay, you overhyped yourself. Nowhere in the news post did they say or even vaguely imply there would be specializations and Revenant gameplay here. Stop expecting more than what they’re advertising. Go in expecting exactly what they say you’re getting, and then if they do show something else you’ll be pleasantly surprised, rather than going in expecting everything and being disappointed when you don’t get it.

PoI have never been about giving us a bunch of new information. It is about showing us what we have already learned from other sources.

This was a PoI specifically for Masteries, so I find it very wierd that you would expect them to talk about specializations or the Revenant.

You set your expectations too high.
They did not advertise this episode as talking about new weapons, specializations, or Revenant Game play.
The episode advertised that they would delve deeper into masteries. Opinions vary on if they succeeded in that regard.

Except as Windu points out, even with this being specifically on Masteries, they didn’t show anything of it off, other than a (? haven’t watched it yet, and may not since it didn’t have what it was supposed to be about) mushroom jump and some gliding. While those are both aspects of the masteries, they aren’t "of how the system works and what it does, ".
Out of what their own page said the PoI was supposed to be about:

We’ll get an overview of how the system works and what it does, and we’ll take a look at some of the Masteries in action.

, they only fulfilled the second half some some of the masteries in action.

Agreed, I have probably overhyped myself. Yet I find it suprising that PoI is not meant to give us any new information. I don’t see why would anyone watch it then – if it showed more, more! of the gameplay and give us more detailed info, it would obviously attract more viewers. In my opinion, the key to make PoI more popular and successuful is to enhance it, as I already said, with exclusive information.

I like that we get something like POI.
But honestly, after the third jump into the abyss and the third jumping with the mushroom I was more annoyed than hyped.
I can see someone jumping into an abyss anytime in GW2 as it is.
I took out of the vid that pretty much every spec of the glider seems to be a mastery and that there are multiple versions of mushrooms.
Last but not least: What we saw was already Beta-material.
Other than that I can’t remember any remotely important facts.

I know that it’s still pretty early in development and I’m grateful that we get to see something, but please: Make it more interesting.
Tell us a bit about the Mordrem Court. Are they corrupted sylvari or a new type of mordrem? Can we at least have a closer look at the model?

And is it just me, or do the devs, except Rubi, have such a “I’d rather be somewhere else”-aura when they sit in POI?

I agree that this fanart section needs to go. Especially that children’s book format made me shrug, recalling that it might as well be their real approach to us given NPE and trait rework (cause it’s too confusing for new players!).

That aside, once the show finally got to the subject (took you only a week and half of PoI) it finally got moving. I got to see that gliding is not on rails, it’s indeed fully player controled, that’s awesome. Also the news of there being more types of those mushrooms, and how they plan to put more environmental mechanics unlockable for given mastery owners was also something new and interesting.

The close up on those mordrem spawners and new type of enemies was also very cool.
Unlike last week this PoI was actually pretty good, once it started after that needless fanart section that is.

I’d love to see those mastery trait line panel, but guess it’s too early for that yet. Anyway while there’s still some work to be done over PoI attractiveness to HoT hungry crowd, today was a step in the right direction.

They did mention that you get your first mastery point pretty much just for entering the area. So that answers my question from yesterday as to whether someone could deliberately avoid getting mastery points. Also they had one person controlling a character while another discussed what was going on, thus avoiding the 20 minutes of a charr standing still we got on Friday

I don’t mind the fan art section, I like that they are encouraging creativity in the player base, and it’s only a few minutes to show off the talents.

The UI, yes, I had a friend over watching with me and I was muttering about needing to see the UI. Though I guess maybe it would have shown mastery lines they don’t want us to know yet?

I wish they didn’t show Beta footage in POI, it has attracted a toxic crowed of players to the live-streams. I enjoy watching POI, i enjoy the fan art, i enjoy the casual banter of the panel.

All these new viewers who have never watched POI before are super annoying me, i wish they would all go away or at least be respectful and not troll chat.

Ok well first off fan art was interesting to hear about. And I like to learn new things about the game. But the thing was…they really didn’t show anything new. This was to show how the mastery system worked. I seen a point gained from point of power. I didn’t see how you spent the point. The mastery system was not opened up at all. They spoke on topics that was already fully known. So no real content that was not already out there. And the Mastery system is still mostly unknown. So I can see where this could be scored as a fail. Special episode to tell nothing new dose not make it special so I can see where the hype falls. Still thanks for what you did show.

Some questions they could have answered. What type of Masteries will work both in old content and new content. Will gliders work in old content? Just how does the healing mushrooms work? (oh forgot that was something that was newly learned yay). Will there be class/race specific masteries?

What would you as a player want from Masteries that is a good question to put out there.

Personally I think race and class specific masteries perhaps. Something besides the skills that sets the races apart once they reach 80.

I’d like to see weapon Masteries. They may already be planed. But I think if you are using a weapon for 80+ levels you should get some sort of bonus that works with both old and new content. Just my opinion.

just a few examples though I’m sure there are others that have thought “hey this would be a great Mastery”

So yeah I was disappointed with the information that was leaked but better then saying “hey this sucked” lets try to give them ideas of what we would like to hear about.

I suppose it depends on what you consider an “overview”. To me, we got exactly that. They outlined the basics of how the Mastery system works.

You get your first Mastery point just by entering the area, get more points by exploration, story quests, ect. You can then use those points both on completely new masteries, as well as enhancing your existing ones with various upgrades. Different masteries will apply to different parts of the world, and the can be expanded upon in the future in Living Story updates and such. They will be entwined into the whole expansion pretty heavily, with masteries being required for exploration, events, combat, and so on. It sounds like some masteries may be hidden behind other masteries, not outright stated as such, but that’s what it sounded like when they said “You can learn from the native races how to better combat the enemies” (and you need Lore mastery to converse with those races).

That is what I’d consider an overview. The basics of the system with a few details here and there. What you’re wanting, a look at the actual UI and more glances at specifics system itself, that seems more like an in-depth look than an overview to me.

And we got a closer look at 2 specific masteries, gliding and mushrooms. For gliding, we saw that it was fully player controlled, heard about some specific upgrades such as upgrades to stamina, the ability to use updrafts, the ability to deploy your glider more quickly after leaving the ground (less delay). For mushrooms, we got a handful of different mushroom types (jumps, speed, healing) and saw one example of how a jump mushroom lets you access part of an event you normally wouldn’t be able to.

With you here, i havent watched the twitch stream, but if thats what it revealed id call that an overview too.

Yeah, this thread is proof of the saying “This is why we can’t have nice things.” It was a quick bonus episode and people are hating on it. They didn’t have to do this. They don’t really have to tell us anything. Good god guys, why are you so negative? They didn’t show us a lot of stuff because the expansion is nowhere close to ready and they have to slowly trickle info to us to keep interest going. They aren’t going to tell us everything months out and then say that’s it, time to wait.

I would have loved to see more specializations and Revenant gameplay as much as the next guy, but that’s not what they stated it would be about. We did get the Warrior F2 thing on the previous PoI as well as the Revenant symbol, but I don’t think either was really intentional.

From the look of the UI (and the area in general) a lot of what we’ve seen seems like placeholders at the moment, like “((Mastery Point))” for example, I doubt the (()) will be there in the long run. The passive mobs also indicate to me that this isn’t as far along as we might think (although that might just be a bug in that particular build, software doesn’t care if you’re about to demo something, it breaks at the worst times).

I imagine that the UI will look similar to PvP reward tracks but they may be planning on a new style of UI and their internetcustomerphobia prevents them from showing anything there yet.

We did learn a little bit that wasn’t discussed. Like pointed out above, we learned there are various types of mushrooms we can’t bounce on, not just using them to bounce to higher heights. Gaining mastery points also seems to be similar to channel skill points, at least from the ones we saw on the stream; there will probably be other types later, like defeating a certain boss. We also learned that hang gliding will be activated by the jump button, while I almost expected it to be another interact (or ‘f’) skill. Yes, I would’ve preferred to learn how gaining and increasing mastery tracks, but seeing even a little bit of the mastery system at work gives people a better idea of how they work, even if all it did was whet people’s appetite for more.
