Boon strip could use a change
Please don’t touch boon stripping. It’s one of the only things a necro brings to pvp. We don’t slap on heavy conditions comparatively speaking and we can’t bunker. We can strip.boons and do damage, that’s it. We have crap defense and can’t handle a focus fire from multiple enemies. What we can do is battle a bunker due to our ability to strip the crazy kitten boons some of these classes can put on themselves with one button press
In additions it’s so freaking easy for some classes to maintain high boons and only removing what you have suggested would not even make an impact. Moreover you would end up hurting the classes that can’t stack boons as easily and hardly touch the classes that can stack so easily.

I have to agree with this, and add, that it offers a very nice little niche to both my necro and mes (my main).
Yeah OP, great idea, just delete the mesmer and necromancer if you make the only thing they have that an ele or guardian or warrior can’t bring available to everybody or just nerf it.
It’s not like guardians and eles aren’t farting boons right and left to 24/7 uptime on WvW guardian trains.
Boons ain’t the only things I can strip, babe.

With incoming defiance change (and a certain pvp match) it hit me just how odd boon strip currently is. As it stand now, ability to rip boons of your opponent is rather exclusive one owned by few professions and skills that grant it are few and far between.
However once landed it does not discern betweeen stacks of a given boon, or boon itself. It simply rips it off. That leads to some lol easy counters to elite skills in some cases, as many elites grant stability so their user can actually use them, rather then be the ragdoll.
They way i see this should work, is that boonstrip should strip a set amount of boon stacks independent of a boon. So if your opponent has 13 stacks of might, 3 of regeneration and 2 protection stacks, a 10 stacks boon strip would leave him with 3 stacks of might and untouched regen and protection.
To compensate for that, boonstrip would be much more accessible across the board then it is now. Sure it requires some work, as might with it’s easy to get, and high to cap stacks would become the perfect shield for stability or protection. Then again might is not exacly the best boon to part with…but that’s for more rested minds then my own atm to work out.
Feedback welcomed:>
From what I understand skills that offer long duration stability, for example Rampage as One, will pulse stability after the change, so even if you strip it, it will be reapplied. So Boon Stripping won’t be used to effectively negate skills like Lich Form anymore
This is a horrible idea for reasons mentioned earlier.
Just so everyone knows 5 out of the 8 professions actually have access to boon stripping.
Nerco, Mesmer, Engineer, Thief and Guardian
Guardian is the least known because they only have Searing Flames, a trait that removes boons when you apply burning.
“Boon stripping” definitely needs a change. I would call it “Boon cleansing” because stripping can have a different meaning.
Yes u are right.
Wut?

with a 1 boon per 10 second cooldown …

Which is still fairly consistent. Compare to Necros, who are known for their mass boon stripping abilities:
Unholy Feast*: 1 boon/15 seconds.
Spinal Shivers: 1 boon/6.67 seconds
Corrupt Boon: 1 boon/8 seconds
Well of Corruption*: 1 boon/6.67 seconds
Grim Specter*: 1 boon/20 seconds
Path of Corruption: 1 boon/7.5 seconds
Necrotic Corruption: difficult to calculate, average of 1 boon/20 seconds
*: AoE strip
All of a sudden, 1 boon/10 seconds doesn’t look bad. It’s comparable to any one of a Necro’s boon strips, though Necros do have much greater capability than any but the Mesmer for boon stripping.

It looks horrid. What if enemy has said stability shielded by other boons? Necro uses spinal shivers or corrupt boon and it’s most likely down. Guardian…uses stability for himself at best.
The problem with the OP’s idea rests in the way boons are applied. Boon stripping is already of questionable real use in the vast majority of situations because most classes reapply boons quickly and often.
So while the OP is certainly right, and some classes like Necromancers who lose stability on their forms, or a Ranger who loses stability on RaO are very severely impacted, clases like Elementalists and Guardians couldn’t care less because they’ll reapply half a dozen boons a second later.
If boon stripping were more powerful to begin with I could see having some sort of limitation as described in the OP. As it is right now, boon management is such an afterthought in this game we could probably double the number of boon strips and few would notice.
Like Atherakhia mentioned the way boons can be reapplied right now is the issue, so i think a better change would be to have boon stripping add a debuff to the affected players making them unable to reapply w/e boon was removed for x amount of time, similar to how revealed/stealth works.

except when you add them up you could have 10+ boons removed in a 5 second window which is more than enough time for friends to finish the target off if boons are what’s helping it survive.

That would be true if these were instant cast and some weren’t mutually exclusive. It would take like 10-15 seconds of casting just to use all those skills.
