A little alliteration to lure you lookie-loos. (Okay I’ll stop)

Anyway, I’d like to bring attention to the break bars on boss fights. Many of the fights with champs and legendaries in verdant brink are enjoyable and hectic. However, during BWE3’s beta, when the moment of truth comes, where you either knock the wyvern on its behind or let it napalm the entire jungle, that’s where things screw up.

The break bars are scaled up impossibly high in this beta, so that if there’s a zerg in the area, all of us spamming every cc in our kitten nal won’t even take the break bar down to 3/4. And let’s be real-every event in Verdant Brink is zerg bait so this happens for every fight, except maybe the canopy bosses since not every player has the proper masteries unlocked.

So instead of that moment of triumphant teamwork where a swarm of pugs get it together and collectively dropkick a dragon, we just forgo the entire CC mechanic and burn harder. Which was the problem with defiance stack scaling in the first place.

Well I think they tuned it up because in the last BWE, the Break Bar was nearly non existent. The Moment the Wyvern tried to get in thze Air was the Moment his Break Bar was enabled and broken at the same Time. But now we see the other Extreme. Break Bars so highly tuned that you can’t exprect them to be broken. It makes interesting Fights like the Wyvern long and tedious.

Somewhere in the Middle of the two Extremes we saw is a healthy Tuning. Please play with the Tunings right now in the Beta so we can test the Balance of it.

Agree with the original poster, when I fought the legendary wyvern with about 50 people, we only got the breakbar to move about 3 pixels and it became a long, drawn out fight. On the upside, people would actually revive completely dead players, so that was nice to see.

I also found with my mace/mace interrupt warrior with bull rush, kick, and stomp, I had a very difficult time interrupting veterans solo. Plain veterans that had a break bar up all the time were ok, but the ones with limited windows were impossible, I couldn’t unload attacks quickly enough. Generally I would land the 3 adrenaline mace for the 3 second stun, and bullrush for 2 second knockdown, and it would only move the bar about 20%. Maybe the veterans were scaled up and I didn’t notice, but CC felt about as useful as the old defiance system. Fought champion hylek with Faren, and we only broke the break bar when it basically already dead, 10% health.

In BWE2, My reaper was completely shutting down mordrem punishers without even trying. Now that break bars have been buffed, and chill/blind/cripple affect break bars differently, I haven’t been able to break them at all.

I miss being able to wade into a huge group of punishers and slaughter them all by mashing buttons, but I do agree that needed to be changed. However, I feel like break bars are currently way overtuned…Though when I expressed that belief in the last wyvern fight I attempted, I got white-knighted into oblivion.

Those armadillos would be a lot cooler if they looked more like real armadillos. mmm armadillos

Maybe this is why I haven’t figured out the break bar. I don’t think any of my beta alts have been able to do much against one except in the first reaper test when we were all chaining the wyvern down. So I’ve remained befuddled as to which of my skills would do thing one to the break bar and just had to hope someone else was hitting the right skill while I kept on doing my normal strikes.

If the answer is “no skills will affect the break bar this weekend,” then I feel less like an idiot

Indeed breakbars seem broken in this beta.
I have found 2 situation 1) it melt in 2 hits, 2) it doesn’t move at all.
And the wyvern fight… You just can’t go more than 20%.

My chill/blind/vul feel so weak on these breakbars. But I’m sure it’s a beta thing and it’ll be fixed before HoT release.

PS: I’ll sacrifice a Quaggan to Dhumm (not grenth, UW thief…) every day until the release to be sure this issue will be fix.

Breakbars: Some of them were too hard to break. It was easier to just kill some of the bosses, and others, the breakbar never broke.

One example of this is the Wyverrn. Fought it several times with a group of others, and I never once saw it broken – I barely saw it budge, even when a couple times the group was shouting at each other to use CCs. Once I brought a mesmer with all CC abilities, and his breakbar didn’t even go down below, oh, 90% I’d guess.

As for the final champion Hylek with Lord Faren’s group, we did finally break his break bar a couple times, but he was near death anyway when we did.

In other words, the breakbars need to be tuned a little.

I agree, the value of the cc vs breakbars should double while they are casting or charging there attack (not auto attacks) and it should help with some balance and skill play.

For BWE3, we were unable to break the breakbar of the Wyvern during Swordmaster Faren’s escort. We had over 30 people and the breakbar only went down 3-4 cms before it took off. We also coordinate our CCs, I’m unsure whether to put this in the bug forum or here.

Yeah, they intentionally buffed the heck out of it so it had a challenge to it. In BWE2, it was easy to bust the bar and down him, then have no real fire damage on the cliffside. So, it was easy.
They buffed it so you cannot do that as easily and it actually has fire all over the place and you have to carefully move around or you drop dead. I felt this was part of that whole “You cannot dodge all content” examples.

Amanda Corsiva – Revenant && Katereyna – Chillomancer
Jenna Gracen – Scrapper && Merit Sullivan – Guardian
Daenerys Ceridwen – Druid && Vexia Gracen – Chronomancer

It’s definitely a good way to avoid people “dodging content”, but after a while the fight got so stale. :/
It was very repetitive and realizing where to stand every time made it easy.
