To Anet Marketing Team:

I know you guys playing business trick in here:
for new player $50 for new players Treat this as a new game. + unknown income in gem store in the future.
for existing player:
$50 + 800gem for new slot.
it seem have lots of income for this. ..

BUT have you consider:
Those players who already left in the pass. Those player who’re taking the break ATM.
by looking at that price do you know they still will comeback?? i think they will prefer new MMORPG.
Those player are still in the game. by hearing this new will stop playing ( I am the one)

This is how you treat you loyal fans?

GW2 is a 3 years game no matter how good the expansion will be. its not a brand NEW GAME. expansion still an expansion.

Should you more targeting for existing player. and not focus on the new players?

What happen if you dont have enough new players and existing left in large number?
The Answer is you will lots large income to support your business.

Well.. you can still ignore those players in the forum. but have you consider we are the voice from the Society.

How many player will still support you. your sales team will find out soon.

Here is answer to all argument. Want it, have money for it, Buy it. Want it, no money for it, save up money.Don’t want it, don’t buy it. It is that simple. All the arguments and rioting are getting ridiculous.

Some must fight so that all may be free.

So? How old is WoW and people continue to play it and return to it every time one of their $50 expansions comes out. The fact is, people will and already have bought it. Dozens of people have posted that they bought the ultimate edition. Obviously this isn’t an issue, nor is the price, nor is the fact that the standard version doesn’t include a character slot.

its about fair..
for my own personal i dont really care they have extra slot or not.
i got 13 slot. 1 slot already save for Revenant

its about how anet treat their loyal customer. even WoW’s expansion still require new player to buy the original copy

for GW2 i never hear other company did expansion like this…

Its hilarious how much players think their “loyalty” has value.

Mony you’ve spent is spent. In fact its a big long list of things that’ll never generate revenue again for them compared to a new customer who does not yet own any bank tabs or outfits or harvesting tools.

Seriously, what do you think Arenanet expects of existing, loyal players other than maybe a trickle of money as they churn out outfit after outfit and the occasional pet or finisher. “Loyal” customers are for the most part mined-out customers.

And ultimately the really loyal customers will keep putting in money with or without a special sweetener being tacked on the deal.

They should have been a little more thoughtful, certainly, but as a cold hard calculation, they’re gonna make a boatload of money off of HoT with or without the outrage of so-called loyalists.

So you would be happy if it costed 50 bucks and forced new players to buy the original?

So it’s not so much that you want something, you want others not to have something.
Just buy the expac if you want it and don’t spend too much attention on what others get, life isn’t always fair.

So you’d actively support/promote unfair practice? Most people would prefer fair treatment and practice if given the choice and voice up when injustice or unfair things happen. So i think you might need a little help on ur side…..

I’m sorry but it’s kinda ridiculous that people are angry that others are getting sth that they don’t need themselves. I’d agree if the expac was cheaper for new players or sth like that. That would have been very unfair and not okay.

But that some new player is getting the core game with it, why would that bother me?
I’m glad, cause it’ll be an incentive for people to buy this bundle and that means more players ingame.

Same boat….

Old customers/loyal player base are expected to pay more for the same game than newer players…

I’ll explain as simple as I can:
Player 1- Bought the game at release for $60-$80 depending on situations. (mine was $80, EB Games Australia)
Player 2- Still hasn’t looked at Guild wars 2 because they have been enjoying other games for the last 3 years

With the expansion coming out:
Player 1- Will now have to pay a further $50 for an expansion to a game they own, which I believe no one would have cared about, making a total of $110-$130 spent.
Player 2- Randomly walks into a game shop with some birthday money or spare cash, see’s Guild Wars 2 + expansion on sale for $50, takes it home and enjoys full benefits of a game, a total of $50 spent.

The loyal customer has paid more money just for the original game without the expansion while the new player pays less and acquires more. – Understandably making vet players a little angry and left out after having stuck with Anet for so long. The best compensation they can provide is a free game copy in which they hope player 1 will use to bring in player 3 but all that will most likely happen is a bunch of forgotten codes, hack accounts, alt accounts, spy accounts for wvw and what have nots… It will also provide an unrealistic view of how many actual players are on a server or play the game…. kinda adds to population balance problems even further.

I mostly play for the new Free-For-All arena in PvP lobby.
….. And Elementalist.

To be honest, the game does not need to be aim for brand new players, the game already hit it’s peak at release and probably won’t ever be as high again unless they release something incredibly amazing soon, most likely they won’t even have that many more brand new players, veterans will still be the largest population by far.

Basic human need
-perception of fairness
-perception of good deal
-perception of being appreciated and def not the opposite of that

Does anyone, and I mean ANYONE think that new players with a naked account are starting from anything like parity with a 3 year veteran?

They get a free game. Good for them. I get new players to play with without unnecessary barriers to entry. Good for me and the game as a whole.

I realize enlightened self-interest is hard because it takes thinking about where you’ll be in a day or week or month rather than right this second as you’re clicking “buy now” but dang people…

I think it would have been in good taste to give us a char slot. But i don’t think you can expect them to still ask 50 bucks for a 3 year old game. If i buy COD 2 years after release, it’s gonna be cheaper. Even if they added some extra maps.

What its about is people attaching substantial value to something that doesn’t have substantial value. Veterans don’t WANT an new account and yet people are trying to bargain with ANet like not getting one is a big deal. If they did, people would be buying the package and firing up brand new accounts with HoT access instead of applying their code to their existing account.

Yes. Their release plan was thoughtless and stupid and should totally have provided the semblance of caring about existing customers even thought we all know the reality is new players are where the money is for them. There should have been a cookie. ANd if there isn’t a cookie offered in the next 2 weeks, I’ll be shocked. But if people are expecting a giant verbal capitulation and apology while E3 is still running, they’re fooling themselves.

ANet will save face after the media frenzy, not during it.

The base game is not even available for purchase anymore and it’s permanently replace by HoT. so basically u can even look at it as HoT is the NEW base game and while new player just buy HoT we end up buying gw2 twice.
