I live in New Zealand and the prices in NZD have been roughly $75 for base, $110 for deluxe and $150 for ultimate.
Gem cards are localized in price so we get 2000 gems for $25 NZD which is about $16 USD.

I haven’t seen anywhere that says the pricing for the expansion after realease but i’m guessing it will also be localized when it hits shops, meaning i can save a few bucks if i wait until then.
If i am correct i could get the base expansion for $50, three gem cards for $75 and have my two character slots for 1600 gems with 400 left over and my 4000 gems and miss out on some small cosmetic things for saving $25.

Or i could sell gems cards for $20 USD and still save $25 NZD and buy the expansion now, but seeing as i a will not receive the extra character slot, it is hardly worth it.

I’m wondering if Anet has any control over what shops around the world sell the expansion for and if it will be localized or not.

Thanks

If you wait until release day, the only thing you miss out on is the beta weekends and a title. The cosmetic items will probably still be available in the gem store.

… and won’t get a free extra toon slot!

Well that depends on how long the OP has been playing, but yes, likely.

Ofc they can’t other than the price they sell the game to the shop for

A 2000-Gem card in the U.S. is $25, rather than $16, as posted above. Or if the exchange rate allows you to purchase 2000 Gem cards for the equivalent of $16 USD, then you get a great deal in NZ. The 4000 Gems with an Ultimate pre-purchase is worth $50 USD.

Good luck.

Just dont buy it, it’s the only way anet will listen to us.

When they dont get as many sales as they were hoping for they will have to reduce the price to something more reasonable.
The fact that you only get the character slot if you pre-purchase is still an insult and still not enough to justify the price.

The price will most certainly drop, but it will either be during a special holiday sale or after much of the LWS3 content has been released, requiring you to buy the chapters if you want to play it.

Yeah cos I play it now for the terrible PvE content :P

The PvE is totally uninteresting in GW2, I play for WvW. Hence again why I will not buy this or think it is worth it for me; as anet will do for WvW now what they did for it in the last 3 years: Absolutely nothing!

In general they have done little for it, but they are paying more attention to it now. If all you do is WvW, then I do believe there is little reason to buy the expansion; same with PvP. They are adding the new map (which I heard is quite nice), and I am pretty sure that you are not restricted from it without the expansion.

If HoT was only $20, would you buy it?

The catch is, the living story seasons would no longer be free and instead cost $20, just like season 2 (originally). Unlike Dry Top/Silverwastes, all related new content would be locked behind those seasons. Assuming 2 additional seasons per expansion, that would be $60 total.

Basically, with HoT, you’re paying up front for an episodic expansion rather than paying individually for each episode. HoT may look small now, but in the end, it won’t be. (HoT isn’t a traditional expansion, it’s simply a better way to market the living world concept)

If you’re going to skip PvE however, you’re not going to care and would rather save that extra money. However, specializations/whatever could be locked behind those seasons.

Outside of sales, I doubt the price will ever drop (from buy.guildwars2.com). If they’re going to be refunding players and resetting the price every expansion, they might as well keep a stable price and offer refunds by automatically upgrading their accounts. The price can be justified by including the living story rather than selling it separately. Alternatively, they might do the opposite and lower the price, but charge that difference for the living story.

Through 3rd parties however, the price will of course be cheaper like always. It actually already is at some places.

That ship has sailed, i’m sure. I think they’ve sold quite a nice number already.

That’s for sure. There were a ton of Revenants in game this past weekend, so it’s almost certain they got a large crowd, especially after the addition of the character slot to all packages.

Never say never, unless it’s expecting regular WvW updates

There are still plenty of people who have not bought HoT yet.

So i guess i should just wait then, probably silly of me think of getting a developer reply on something so secretive at the moment.

It’s unlikely they know what future prices will be months from now. That’s more a marketing decision than a Dev decision and will depend on how strong sales are, how much money they calculate different prices will bring and how badly they need the money later on.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.
