Send in bug reports, you can do it in game. Seems like not to many people are having this issue, and Arenanet is not going to be able to fix it unless they get good information and able to recreate what is happening in order to fix it. A friend of mine was having an issue shortly after the game released, he sent in a bug report though the game, and he ended up getting an email from Arenanet asking for more info from him, some log files, dxdiag, and then a patch came a little bit later and fixed the bug.

So do your due diligence in reporting it through the proper channels to help them get if fixed.

Every time the game crashes a crash report pop up appears asking to please hit yes to report so they can take a look at what happened. Either that’s total bs and the don’t get the info or idk what because I always hit yes. About 20 times now just since HoT release I’ve crashed.

I for one am doing my due diligence.

“We added Supersample, High-Res Character textures, Dynamic Reflections, Ambient Occlusion, SMAA and other fancy stuff that will make your game look gorgeous!

Oh but if you want to have a good experience with the game you should turn those off and play at minimum settings. CYA #YOLO!"

That’s pretty much Anet’s answer atm. A little of exageration maybe, but not too much.

Seems like not to many people are having this issue

Well considering i’ve seen 10 threads on crashing in the last 2 hours alone I would say it is a very common problem, especially in DS.

I crashed out of 2 maps today, wasting almost 4 hours of my time.

I learned to join party’s after my 1st crash. If your in a grp, your good.

You’re only good if the map doesn’t immediately fill to full again, Which happens often.

Ah, 32 bit client … That explains everything. It also means that grouping up in large groups is counter-productive. My first crash came yesterday in a large group. in the jungle canopy.

It seems like Anet has reached the limits of what a 32 Bit client can do. Shame though that the entire game is build on a modified GW1 client, so they might have to change engine to get a working 64 bit client.

I am so glad I’m not the only one having these issues! I’ve been crashing like mad crazy since the expansion released. Usually a tell-tale sign that I’m about to crash is that I get these strange graphical glitches somewhere in the UI. Most of the time it’s either on the map or my Hero interface. It seems to be related to how long you play, so it’s probably some sort of memory issue.

http://i.imgur.com/oehv4Bq.jpg
(I had to take a cellphone picture because screenshots stop working with that bug)

I’ve crashed in WvW, Southsun and several times in Maguuma, so it’s certainly not related to a specific location… Seriously hope this gets fixed soon.

Well yes… the whole Pact crashed in the Maguuma Jungle, and you see often choppers crashing around. The whole expansion is one giant crash site.

OH.

You where talking about client crashes. Mmm. Never got 1. Maybe lower you settings? Upgrade your PC? Might help…

Have you even read this thread, or are you trolling?

Yeah was just trolling a bit…anyway there was a little message that, since I really haven’t had a single client crash/bug since HoT start, maybe people are playing the game on too higher settings and they full the RAM or whatever. After all is 2015 product, even if based on more than 3y engine and whatever. Just saying.

I love how there are people out there who say the solution is to just have all settings on low and it’s okay to have that as a solution. Have a great computer that can run all games on high settings including this one at 60+ FPS…but no, just turn all settings to 8-bit Nintendo graphics and problem solved! High end computers that significantly exceed the requirements for the game are somehow at fault?

Anet adds all kinds of great graphics and settings to make you go oooh and aaah. And yet people say just turn everything to low so that the game looks like a Nintendo game.
The solution isn’t for quality computers to run the game at garbage settings. The solution is for the crashes to be fixed so that the game can be ran as advertised.

I had more crashes yesterday alone than I’d had in the entire three years before HoT launched. So frustrating. Sent the report in every time it crashed.

Sometimes I was just walking around in LA. Sometimes mid event. Sometimes I just pulled up the map or inventory or guild panel. There’s no rhyme or reason to the crashes and it is incredibly frustrating.

Same experience here. I’ve crashed more in the past week than I have since beta. I could be just standing in an isolated area and the client would crash.

Been submitting all the crash reports, hope ANET can get the game more stable like it was prior to HoT.

I love how you run around for an hour on the new borderlands with your guild trying to find a fight and the instant you do, you and 8 other people in your guild crash. Essentially you lose close to a third of your guild to crashing almost every single fight. It’s frustrating beyond belief especially if there’s a queue.

Why should they? You just found a fix.
GW2 has had this kind of problem from the start and all they have to do is wait for players to find some sort of middle ground where they still keep playing. You just found it, which makes it almost like “It’s ok Anet, I found a partial solution which does satisfy me, as I can still play”.
So, why should they work on a fix when we ourselves found one and are still playing (and paying).

Awww.. stop it you!

You cannot honostly tell me that Anet considers it to be a fix to just play on ‘potato settings’, if your pc is ‘too good’.

That’s plain ridiculous and false advertisement. They always show off their games at the best settings, just to tell everyone afterwards you can’t play on them because you’ll have severe crashing issues.

I’ve spoken to a lot of people ingame who have the same issues, guildies, friends, random people in the map who call out ‘another kitten crash’.. In Silverwaste it’s no longer “looking for group anti-dc” it’s now “looking for group anti-crash”.

Yes. So far “downgrade the settings” is the only answer about that problem we’re getting about the issue. Anet seems to be treating this problem as something natural, like the weather – something you must suffer through somehow, but what cannot be fixed at the source.

They’re working on a fix that will probably take some time.

They are? That’s news to me.

And how long is “some time” because the problem is quite old already, it just got made more visible by the HoT patch.

The only thing my OOM crashes have in common is that I’ve been playing for a while when they happen. I’m pretty sure there is a leak. VB seems to be the worst by far.

I’ve started pre-emptively re-launching the game every hour or so.

It doesn’t seem to be a memory leak; I’m one of those people in the never-ever-crashed-the-game-before basket (okay, maybe it died twice in three years), but my game crashed four times within ten minutes in the PvP lobby. I’m also getting crashes just walking around in old territory (Lornar’s Pass) where nothing is happening (there were maybe five people on the whole map at the time). It’s not a population spike/graphical/memory bug, it’s something else.

Been there, punned that.

I have never really had crash issues (my issue is kicking me to character screen) nut always at the worst times, and this nonsense people are stating use lowest settings? yeah that will solve ALL ISSUES? B/S

This is what you can expect from Tech support/Customer service:

Hey John,

This is definitely a very interesting situation that you are having! As far as issuing you the rewards, I unfortunately cannot give you the rewards. :\ There is a solution though! Do us a favor by submitting an in-game bug report. This will send detailed information directly to our Quality Assurance Team and will help us kitten the issue as promptly as possible. (To submit a bug report in the game, simply click on the “Game Menu” button in the upper left-hand corner of the game interface, then choose the “Support” option on the Game Menu. That option will allow you to review known issues, report a bug, or contact Customer Support.)

Love to know how they think me giving them reports is a solution, Pretty sure by now they have more reports than players,

More and more i think this is BWE4 than Heart of thorns, Yeah launch was silky smooth but then you get into it and over 20 rebuilds and nearly 2 weeks and still having issues? /sigh

This isn’t a fix for most people though, it only fixes it for those who have a high end PC. Where those with more moderate PC’s to low are SOL and still crashing even on lowest settings.

I would crash about every several hours. Then I changed to best performance in graphics options and haven’t crashed at all after that. It sets everything to low so I went thru those settings and moved levels up to medium and everything in general up a little higher to make it look acceptable. But best performance works really well for not crashing, it just makes everything look bad.

I feel like it’s not a 32/64-bit client issue; crashes are happening around the board in places that have run butter-smooth since forever (Lornar’s Pass, Queensdale, etc). Personally, I’m not getting character-screen crashes (that’s a server/connection issue), I’m getting CtDs (and I’ve had one bluescreen).

But I’ll give the 64-bit client a go in case it changes anything. Anything’s better than crashing every five minutes…

(Edit: Nope, the 64-bit client didn’t change a thing. Also tried a -repair shortcut, but it’s still a no-go. Sigh… where did my favorite MMO go…)

I’m on Win7 64-bit with plenty of RAM. having same issue as OP. I have crashed more in last week than in the 3 yrs playing the game.

There is an issue on their side. Constant crashing before or during events will become frustrating. I quit Defiance because of this. It is no fun playing a game you enjoy but being hindered by game crashes.

They have already confirmed that there are issues for them to fix. They have tried in two separate patches. but it is still an issue for many of us. And yes, I send in crash reports when asked. but many of my crashes do not – just locks up my machine. And I have reported this as well in the bug forum.

I have the same specs and the same problems though it seems to have become less frequent now in some areas. Verdant Brink and Auric Basin is mostly running smoothly for me now but Tequatle is still hopeless to try as is the other world bosses.
It is very annoying to say the least that the problems still linger on.
