Guild Wars is a beautiful game, I offend fine myself in search of new styles and armor to change the look to give me a new character feel. I would like it if you could
“like” and give feedback on someones style if they choose, to have that option. Of?> current armor equipped? why? why not?……..

I know I got good style but if I’m wearing certain gear and it is popular in that its well liked by the community I think a “like” or a message nice armor.

chat system is too easy, why not complicate things with needless other system. Just thought it might be kind of cool to get a bunch of likes on new armor or only positive feedback. AFTER a like you could just click on their character and click or hit a button…? brainstorming….. whats the community think? or will I get hated on for having an idea/s? GO!!!!!!!!!

Whenever I see somebody with a style that interests me I always whisper them a compliment. A like system seems unnecessary when a complimentary whisper does the same ego stroking job.

TBH, I don’t see any practical justification for such feature to be added. Why would you need someone to “like” your outfit? Are we on FB or something? Or you simply need to stroke your ego in some way? Sorry, I don’t want to sound rude, but that’s exactly how this topic sounds to me. There’s many more important things that must be looked, right now. I don’t see any reason for this to be added. If someone likes your outfit and style, he/she can simply PM you about it, and you can discuss it there.

I know it might come as a shock but mmorpgs have always been very social games. Some people play only because of the friends they have, and spend a lot of time in game not actually playing, but hanging around, socializing.

While its not something I would currently make good use of, you cant deny that a social game would have people who make use of enhancements to the social aspect.

I mean just look at lions arch. yeah I’m sure a lot of those afkers are actually afk but I bet a good amount are socializing same goes for the mists, tons of people clearly not in queue, running around showing off their stuff so to speak, popping boxes o fun and doing dance circles. All this stuff is in the same category of whatever it is the OP wants.

Also want to point out that in mmorpgs where there is a lot of non-game stuff to do, people tend to stick around longer. I remember in anarchy online there were tons of people that would go to random “dance club bars” that were around the world, and hang out. They even had an entertainment district that had really not much more to do than hang out. So that’s what people use to do in mmorpgs when they didn’t want to play 10-15 years ago, so why not something more modern in todays modern games?

I think games today sort of put this aspect of the game on the back burner, and focus mostly on people looking to burn through 500 hours of content in a month.

The only reason you’d sound rude is because you refer to someone wanted their ego stroked to be inherently negative. :P

Everyone needs some reassurance/compliments/appreciation every once in a while, this would be a fairly succinct way of implementing that. The endgame in GW2 for many people (Before people argue, please read: ‘many’. Not ‘all’, not even ‘most’, just ‘many’.) is about cosmetics and showing off their fashion.

I often tell people if I like their armour or costume. I’ve never had anybody react poorly to the compliment yet.

Can you get a compliment?

You can.

Will you?

That’s up to everyone else. Fishing for compliments tends to make receiving one less likely though.

What you said is true also for me. I like changing how my characters look all the time, especially since you can get a lot of nice looks by combining different skins. My point is, do we really need such specific option, right now, when there’s so many much important things on the horizon with HoT only 1 month away? Fact is mmorpgs are very social games. Discussing such things as weapon/armor skins on PM, parties or even in guild chats doesn’t make this aspect any less social. The way it is done now, works perfectly fine. Just look at FB for an example. People are measured how famous they’re by the amount of their friends, likes, etc. Do we really need something like this in game? I think such function may actually do more harm, then good in the long run.

I don’t understand why any extra game system is needed for someone to recieve complements.

Are you looking for some kind of compliment score to keep track? Just find a post-it or something.

I have a whole folder for screenshots of other peoples characters and most of them are ones where I like their armor, or the look of their whole character.

Some time after I started collecting these it occurred to me that I should really tell people I like their character design – if I’m honest partially because I thought it’d make it less creepy when I have to obviously follow them to get a decent shot, but also because I thought they might like to know.

Like other people I’ve had only positive responses. It seems weird at first to whisper a stranger to tell them you like their outfit, but chances are they’ve put a lot of time and effort into it, so it’s not as random as it might seem.

Adding a dedicated system for it just seems like an unnecessary complication. And might actually have the negative effect of making some people feel pressured to choose an outfit they think other people will like, instead of what they want their characters to look like.

Whenever I see somebody with a style that interests me I always whisper them a compliment. A like system seems unnecessary when a complimentary whisper does the same ego stroking job.

Actually, I’d say a whisper does a better job. If you can like with a quick click, it risks making it a common event, and that cheapens it. Even more so if a number of likes is visible, because that would just lead to like-trading to try and show off about who can get the biggest number.

Taking the time to whisper a complete stranger takes a little time and effort, and it’s more personal. It’s only happened to me a few times since the game launched (coincidentally, it happened this week), but it’s made my day each time. I doubt I’d care or even notice much if someone clicked on a thumbs up symbol.

I prefer simple Whispering too. That way, you get to actually reply with a nice “Thank you” every time, and sometimes get to make a friend. I’m pretty modest usually, but I gotta admit I’ve got pretty got taste when it comes to Character Customization. I’ve met a couple of friends that way, so I’d like unexistent system to stay unexistent
