They haven’t said anything about it, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they made it so you can’t use them on the Revenant.

This pretty much: and crafting was viable from level one at launch. So whether you use tomes or crafting, seeing level 80 revenants on launch day will be a reality.

due to the release of ascended crafting, now it requires crafting to 500 to get full 10 levels.

At one point Colin (or whichever dev was up there, I don’t which devs are which…) stated specifically that everyone would be start on equal footing with the Revenant and level up. It kind of sounded like he was hinting at level scrolls not working.

I would be very surprised if they didn’t let Revenants use tomes. It seems pretty silly to permanently cripple the leveling capability of the class and deny equal participation rewards (bearing in mind how dailies and monthlies are structured now, plus PvP rewards) just to ensure nobody gets a slight head start on launch day. It just… doesn’t seem reasonable or likely to me that they would set that kind of restriction based on cost/benefit analysis.

I just took that to mean Revenant wouldn’t start at level 80. Equal footing wouldn’t mean Revenant was more difficult to level up, it would mean it was the same.

But if you lock them off of tomes, the Revenants won’t be able to keep up with the Ranger/Druids. They won’t be on equal footing.

Equal footing to me means the same starting point and the same means to level up. Tomes are a means to level up. So are the level 20 scrolls.

i have +300 stacks of tomes but still i will level him the normal way.

I could imagine Arena.net temporarily disabling Tomes and such for Revenants, but I don’t think it’s necessary. Leveling in this game is very similar to Guild Wars 1, in which it’s more of a tutorial than any kind of main element of gameplay. A tutorial is nice for a new class, but for a veteran who has enough Tomes to bypass that, it’s probably unnecessary. It’s going to take awhile, even at max level, for people to find a good niche for a new class anyway.

What is the point of lvl 20 scrolls/tomes of knowledge/skill points if they are disabled? I had all 8 classes at 80 before all those things got brought out and am looking forward to taking a nice shortcut for once.

Would potentially put me off buying the expansion if this was the case! Remember ‘no grind’ Anet…

Its a lie, because if its true, means you cant level through pvp.

I for one can’t wait to visit the new zone in the expansion which will be filled with:

50% Tomed up Revenants wearing the random greens/exotics they got from level up rewards.

20% Tomed up Revenants who geared up but don’t know how to play the class.

30% of the rest of us not being about to get anything done for a month because of ^ ^

In addition, I will greatly enjoy reading the rage posts about how everything new is too hard.

No, none of this post is sarcasm. It’s all part of the new release experience, and I legitimately look forward to it. Ahh. That fresh new game smell.

Revenants starting out on equal footing simply means that everyone will start with a fresh level 1 character. It doesn’t mean that scrolls, tomes, and scrolls can’t be used, of course they can. It would be silly to gate one profession. It’s the same as saying you can’t use any of those things unless you have fully leveled one of each profession before the ability is unlocked for any one of them in particular. And we all know that isn’t true.

I’m hoping you have to unlock the ability to use the class like you would a legendary or the Specialisations.

Its not like Rytlock just re-rolled an alt. He went into the mists.

Of course you can use them. You can already level a class to 80 you never played before with tomes so what’s the diference with the revenant?
Of course, you really shouldn’t do that since you’ll end up with an 80 you don’t know how to play…

If they did make this change I simply wouldn’t play the new class till it was changed for scrolls to work. I don’t mind having a new class to level , but if that’s how my other toons leveled then it should be available to any new toons to.

Another possibility is they allow those who pre-order to begin leveling their Revenants in the current game before the actual launch of the expansion. Since the artwork and other assets will be required regardless if you purchase the expansion it makes sense they could release the new profession early and allow them to level normally and learn the class and to start the expansion on “even footing.”

I made no speculation on it either way. Just pointed out that it would kitten many people off. Also it’s not entitlement to expect something you pay for. Entitlement would be if people expected it all to fall into their laps without either monetary or time expense.

To those say its true because there will be a lot of players without knowledge of the class at 80 running around. How is this any freakin’ different than rolling a currently existing profession that you’ve never player before and using tomes?

I have a scroll of knowledge and 16 tomes that I will definitely use on my Revenant because I don’t want to deal with the new trash leveling!
