I absolutely do not want new recipes for breathers.
I want breathers to be converted to skins, which use the same stats as our helms. There is no reason for us to have to add a 7th piece of armor and a 7th rune for the tiny fraction of the game that is underwater, especially since huge numbers of skills and traits don’t function there.
Illconceived Was Na nailed it!
@Anet: Reduce the stupid bloat and accept this was another “emperors new clothes” idea.

I agree. The breather is completly useless at the moment. You do not even drown if you completly unequip it.
Considered making a new thread, but fits in here well enough: Why weren’t the three Orders backpeices, which were released with HoT, made available with the new stat sets that came out with HoT? Spend a lot of time grinding the map currencies, good bit of gold for the armor/weapon collections, for stats I could have gotten from crafting/forging an ascended back piece with probably for less.

Would be nice.
I don’t think any of my characters have an exotic of ascended breather. It’s a waste to bother with it.

There is also no reason to separate armor into 6 pieces instead of making it one set, but that is how the game was designed.
Removing the breather at this point would be frustrating for all the guys that already have the ascended breathers and it really isn’t an issue to get a breather if you want to and runes are very cheap anyway. It is just one more thing you can have to make your character perfect and while it is as useless as ascended/legendary underwater weapons it is one more thing people can work towards if they already played the game for 2000+ hours and still want to optimize their character.
Don’t know why changing stats is restricted for the new ones. To me that makes no sense as well.

what? Of course it makes sense to use separate pieces because you can mix stats if you want; you’re not forced to go all zerker or viper or whatever, as you would be in PvP.
It doesn’t make sense for underwater to change only one armor piece, again especially since many traits and skills don’t function underwater. Heck, revenants can only use a single weapon type, even though you can weapon swap with them.

There are all sorts of ways to accommodate those that felt the need to invest, including turning those breathers into helms or even to an ascended armor piece of their choice.

Around a dozen runes run over 3g on the TP, not including account bound ones that require map currency.
The issue isn’t how hard it is to get a breather — the issue is that it’s unnecessary; there’s no value to it. It isn’t needed in Tier 4 Aquatic and it has a minor niche use for WvW.

I don’t think the game should be designed to accommodate completionists.

Changing stats is not restricted by type of stat — you can change any ascended armor or weapon to any stat using the same Mystic Forge recipe (anthology + 5e + original piece + target exotic inscription/insignia). The only restrictions are on trinkets, back items, and breathers.
There are reasons for the restrictions on backs, rings, amulets, and accessories (some of them even good reasons). I don’t know why breathers weren’t included as “armor”, but since it wasn’t, I’d rather that they didn’t fix it and instead spend that effort on eliminating breathers entirely.
