Can we kill Trahearne already?

I really like your post.
I like Trahearne
Switch it to caithe, and I’m with you.
Nobody likes Trahearne. He’s annoying. He steals our thunder, and our rightful place as leader of the pact. His voice actor is painful to listen to. He’s clearly demonstrated that he’s a failure as a leader. He’s a walking cabbage.
You appear to confuse your subjective opinion with that of objective fact.
I rather liked Trahearne and the bad mamajama he was. As well, the changed things based on player feed back. and Trahearne defers to me as his ranking senior.

I like Trahearne, too, but I think he should have resigned as leader of the Pact once Big Z was handled, and stayed in Orr. His work there is far from being finished.
No thanks, i like Trahearne. He could have used some better lines, but i like him over all. Plus he never once stole the thunder of my character, for as long as i can remember(basically since the first time i finished the campaign) hes Deferred all the choice making to me, and gives me credit when i do things, unlike Kormir.
I hated Trahearne at first, but that’s changed over time. I’m not saying I like him, I just don’t hate him any more.
The real problem here is that he should have stayed in Orr, as Tachenon said. As I’m sure he would have, had Caithe not basically betrayed all of Tyria by keeping vital information from him and stealing the egg.
We found a recording of Scarlet telling the voices in her head that she was doing what she did for herself, not for them. I think Caithe is going down the same path, corrupted and in denial about it, working for Mordremoth while telling herself she’s doing the right thing.
Caithe has to die. I think Trahearne should pass judgement on her, but it should be the player that carries it out. Then, a much changed Trahearne can retreat to Orr and leave what’s left of the Pact to find a better leader.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
Trahearne is actually not a bad character. Not introduced or built up as strongly as he should be, but his concept works very well. I did a large post on it a while back.
Now, Destiny’s Edge? All of them but Rytlock are disposable.
I rather kill Logan or Queen Jennah, or just destroy Rat City (Rata Sum)
As much as I dislike him when compared to the sudden death of Tybalt. I don’t find him ‘stealing the spotlight’ as everyone claims Trahearne to do anyway. it is something that needed to be done due to nature of MMO storytelling. that we have our different characters and not everyone can be listed as leader of the pact.
Anet could have written a better character, but it had to be someone that took our place anyway.
Wait, no; Trahearne is my hero!
Moving along…
I’m indifferent towards Trahearne, and I don’t think I should be forced to kill him just because other people dislike him.
I did a poll on reddit a long time back. It seems that far more people who started the game as a Sylvari liked Trahearne than people who started the game as other races. This is because he was there pretty much from the beginning and we knew who he was. His entrance into the story for other races is relatively abrupt.
I started as a Sylvari and so have no problem with Trahearne. My only real issue with him was when he said “this won’t end well” and they’ve removed that from the game.
Switch it to caithe, and I’m with you.

This. I started out as a Sylvari (which may influence my perception), but I never felt that he did a Kormir on me. I was always consulted, and the muscle of the operations. I like having a scholar character on the battlefield, it’s an interesting deviation from the usual battle-hardened gruff types.

Seriously, why do people think Kormir stole the show? Did you really expect to be turned into the next god of secrets? Would we all be more happy with the nightfall story if every player who has ever completed it would be the new god of secrets?

If I’m completely honest I never felt like I had the “show stolen” from me when playing GW:N either, but it did feel very weird story-wise since I kind of didn’t feel that she had done more than any other mortal to “deserve” divinity. I felt more that she didn’t really deserve it from a plot point of view, or as a result of bad writing. Which makes my previous post a poor choice of words I guess. My point still stands concerning Trahearne though, he feels much better integrated into the story than Kormir’s ascencion to godhood, since he forged the alliance and has the knowledge needed against Zhaitan, all while actively including the player.
Trehearn is the second coolest cabbage around (canache is coolest).
I say death to caithe before she does any more to get us killed.

Trahearne is there to do the paper works so our character does not have to sit behind a desk and fill out papers all day everyday in GW2 storyline.
Why do people not get it?! He is there to do things the PAPER WORK so our character can do other things and no one likes sitting behind a desk all day doing Paper work except for Trehearne. :p
He never steals our glory. We steal his, though. Hell, we steal glory from EVERYONE.
P.S Death to Caithe.
You know who was a good Sylvari?
Seiran.
Or that crazy chick on Southsun.
She was… fun.
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.
I like Trahearne, but I agree . . . Caithe can go.
Death to all cabbage?
Space Marine Z [GLTY]
If we kill all the sylvari am in, i hate that kittened Sylvari from the Sylvary quests that is dumb has kitten.
Nobody likes Trahearne.
Please speak for yourself. I actually think Trahearne is a great character and I don’t remember giving you authority to speak on my behalf.
He steals our thunder, and our rightful place as leader of the pact.
What entitles you to be the “rightful leader of the pact”?
He’s clearly demonstrated that he’s a failure as a leader.
How did he demonstrate that? Please provide proof.
I think I speak for most of the forum users when I say I want him dead.
Again, I haven’t given you authority to speak on my behalf.
Switch it to caithe, and I’m with you.
:)
I don’t mind Trahearne much. Actually, I’d rather see Arenanet write him better for what’s coming in HoT than just killing him “because some players feel like he stole the spotlight” (which he didn’t).
I do wish Caithe’s habit to make horrible choices and not trusting his allies is going to backfire, though. I don’t want her to just die either, but I do hope that she’s not going to get away with the all the crap she has done. If the PC is just like “oh it’s okay Caithe, we understand you”, I’d be really disappointed.
(edited by PetboyJoshua.3108)
Sylvari desire peaceful coexistence. Your outraged, murderous tendencies are clearly the result of Mordremoth’s influence. Therefore you must be eradicated to protect what remains of the Pact and its leaders.
Also, we don’t like being called “salad”, meatbag.
I kind of understand why people keep saying that NPCs shouldn’t steal the spotlight from PCs, but that really doesn’t work in practice.
Think about it: What are the moments that are most memorable in games?
For me, it’s usually when some NPC does the “unspeakable” and one-ups me. It’s a challenge aimed at me at that point. With that challenge, I end up having to say “Oh, it’s ON NOW” and committing to showing that I’m better than them in some way.
The challenge or recognition of skill is one of the most satisfying things in games. Getting rid of Trahearne or (mostly) any other character that acts as a foil to spur motivations forward is contradictory to an interesting story.
As for the claim that “the majority of Destiny’s Edge is awful and someone please do something to make them just not”, I pretty much agree, but they work mostly because they don’t really mesh well in the original story. Caithe is great, though, if only for the fact that the Nightmare Court makes me laugh.
…His voice actor is painful to listen to…
Then I guess we’ll have to hunt down and kill all human male player characters as well!
first time I learned about Trahearne I couldn’t believe a sylvari would lead something, they are sooo boring imo.
1. Make Trahearne turn into a minion of Mordremoth (Hell, you could even make it so that he was evil all along, and only wanted to kill Zhaitan to give mordy more power).
This seems almost likely.
Trahearne is actually not a bad character. Not introduced or built up as strongly as he should be, but his concept works very well. I did a large post on it a while back.
Now, Destiny’s Edge? All of them but Rytlock are disposable.
He’s definitely not a good character either. The LS edits make him less grindingly irritating that he used to be though.
Agree re: DE.

When the heck does Trahearne do this? Being boring is not being a “foil”.

Kormir is vastly more likeable and engaging as a character, which is the key reason she works (GW:N in general was better written, emotionally and pacing-wise, than GW2).
Trahearne always seemed sad to me, maybe because he was a necro and so underpowered compared to all the commanders he had to deal with. So keep him alive so we are reminded of what necros were like when they were part of the game.
Too emo? Hahahhahahahaha
I had two issues with Trahearne, the first was the voice acting, which is second only to the male sylvari player character in the ‘really? this is the best guy you could find?’ stakes
The second was that as a sylvari, I recovered Saladbolg from Waine, why does Trahearne get to have it?
I really don’t get the hate for Caithe though? Although I’d rather see Canach as the de facto leader of the sylvari faction. The end of LS seems to suggest that’s not impossible.
Switch it to caithe, and I’m with you.
Why switch? I can spear at least another two Sylvari on my greatsword, after Treehernia and Caitheter end up on it.

That actually baffles me. Playing through the Sylvari storyline, a lot of people had a disjointed experience:
- Help get Caladbolg back. Somewhat meet Trahearne.
- dotdotdot, join Order.
- Meet Trahearne again.
- “Hey Trahearne! I remember you! I got you Caladbolg!”
- “Hi. I am pleased to meet you.” As if it were his first time.
It’s jarring and disappointing, as if Trahearne couldn’t be bothered to remember the character who did the Pale Tree a huge favor.

I really don’t get the hate for Caithe though?
It’s mostly because she makes horrible, HORRIBLE choices, and she’s constantly forgiven for it. The game makes us forgive her, too. We don’t get a choice in the matter.
In the sylvari personal story, there’s also a couple of points (depending on the path you take) where you’re going to leave someone alive, and she jumps in and kills them rather than let them return to the Nightmare Court. No mercy at all.
While I’ve not read the book that covers it, I believe she also was the one that gathered Destiny’s Edge and set them off to KILL Glint. Glint herself had to convince them to side with her against the real threat.
She took part in the slaughter of a tribe of centaurs that were just protecting another sylvari. And then, to protect a secret, she killed that sylvari rather than the one that was intending to torture the secret out of her. Kill the innocent, spare the guilty.
And now? She kept that secret from everyone, even Trahearne, who NEEDED to know it. Hundreds are dead, and the Pact is in ruins. And of the Pact sylvari, the dead may be the lucky ones. Caithe, meanwhile, has stolen the one object that might save us and run off with it. Even the Pale Tree is upset over this, and if we hadn’t been off chasing after Caithe to get the egg back, we could have been at Trahearne’s side to give advice during the assault.
A lot of us fear that the game will once again force us to forgive Caithe, and we don’t want to. Had she been honest with us and Trahearne, the Pact would be intact, the sylvari would’t be seen as pre-corrupted traitors, and we’d be well on our way to dealing with Mordremoth. Forget Scarlet, Caithe is his most loyal agent.

That part bothered be a bit, too, but it was nothing compared to what followed. I was reintroduced to the Pale Tree, and she’s all “Here’s my beloved son Trahearne, stranger who I’ve never met before. Please help my sweet child go through the hardships to come, and I’m sure someone cares about you out there; not me, though”. I was like “Mom?!”
Still, that didn’t make me dislike Trehearne, as he was introduced to Sylvari as the oldest Firstborn who was studying Orr for 25 years and we learnt of his Wyld Hunt. It only made sense he would play a central role in the story.
The only NPC I’ve ever hated was Tybalt. I thought my suffering was over after he died, but then everyone was giving me their condolences, as if the only memorable thing about me was being Tybalt’s friend.

This.
People find Trahearne annoying because it feels like you do the work and he does the credit (note I don’t particularly agree with this)
Caithe on the other hand, does horrible things at every turn and is celebrated for it.

Would have been nice if they allowed us to slap her at the end of S2. Or at least scold her. Seriously, she stole from me, lied to me, and sent me running from one end of Tyria to the other to try and find her. And you know what, if she’d just sat down and told me why, I’d probably have agreed with her and helped her.
So in HoT I’m going to be “burn all the cabbages!”.
Everything Trahearne was too sparkly, too wordy, and stank of Tumblr. This angered me having to be pulled through the story stuff after killing or sending off well written and delivered characters leaving me wanting more of them, only to give me the same bite of Trahearne cheese over and over. Zojja was overdone and forced also like a student written drama club play but at least those scenes didn’t drag on as long. I would have enjoyed the character as part of my story more if he just guided me along and pointed things out saying more with a look, but he never shut up.
NSP
I actually totally expected Traeherne to be ‘boring’, after I found out he was the first Sylvari born from the Pale Tree. He would have been like a blank slate.
Death to all cabbage?
Mad King Thorn: What’s the difference between a sylvari and a potted plant? Potted plants don’t scream when you cut their legs off and shove them in dirt!
In my alternate timeline Traeherne gives his life in the final battle against the Pale Tree’s avatar in order to give Caith and the remaining Nightmare Court that has allied with her some time to deliver the final blows.
Warrior – The New Burninator! Strongbad would be so proud!
Guardian – Burn for you, heal for me, block for me and uh…sorry Im all out of gifts.

Well there are three starter storylines and at least one of them, Trahearne is there very early like level 3. At any rate, the poll probably didn’t have enough respondents to say for sure, but the amount of people who disliked Trahearne who weren’t Sylvari at the start of play was considerably higher…like night and day higher.
Speak for yourself, I always liked Trahearne, it’s one of my favourite characters in this game. Caithe, on the other hand, has a lot of explaining to do.
eh, trehearne was okay if you played a sylvari, as his presence later on made sense and could also be looked on as a sort of brotherly companionship. he should have been introduced to the other race PS’s just as early i think.
although shooting at random trees and performing a hail mary on mordremoth so early in the game was a completely stupid move tactically. He knew Zhaitan from the tip of his tail to the edge of each fang so he was prepared, but he had been so used to Zhaitans methods that he tried to use similar tactics and mordremoth is a completely different and unknown beast. he should have relied more on the observations of mordremoth’s ‘trehearne’, the commander. or at least scouted ahead of the path before flying in.
i think at least he should step down from trying to be a field commander and leave that to the expert in that field – THE commander. he’s better with a pen anyway.
