I don’t know if I was on the same IP as you were, but we burned down ogre lane on his second pop and I didn’t get the ogre defense achievement. I wondered the same thing; if we needed to do it on the third pop to get it.

It is hard to open the chest at the end. I lost count of the number of times I clicked on it to open, and you need to open it to get the Mistward item (at least I had to a couple of weeks ago when I got it). It does open eventually – look in your inventory to see if you got a Chak Egg or not. You should always get an Egg from the chest.
I did the SCAR lane a couple of nights ago after the patch and did the SCAR lane in three phases. I’m pretty sure I got solid hits on the rushes and everything, still didn’t get the Defender title though. So even if it requires people to be less efficient to do all three phases, it still doesn’t work.
Ive done several defenses, before this nerf (didn’t even know it was nerfed), have not gotten any lane defender achieves, and I don’t think anyone else I’ve spoken to has gotten it either.
You have to complete all the pre-meta events for the lane that you want achievement for. Then stay in the map, defend that lane and kill the gerent for that lane. Best start right after a meta completes.

In my case I’m mainly worried about not getting the chest. (The chest was there, but I could not open it). I wonder if what Lysander is saying was the problem.

Are you speaking from experience post-patch or quoting another source?
(I wouldn’t be surprised if you were right though, I believe there’s an achieve for defending a post in VB that you have to be there the whole night cycle for. I haven’t done that one, nor do I plan on it. I also don’t plan on sitting in TD for two hours for each lane achieve.)

The one time I killed the Gerent, I couldnt open the chest at first. Took a lot of clicking before it registered and all the rewards popped.
you need to run around the chest till you see the yellow loot box. There’s like only 1 angle you can stand in to get the loot now, it’s the same for the other boss chests, i.e. Tequatl, Triple Trouble.

Kind of sucks though, being on a map that will do and succeed at the meta from the beginning is tough, to get all the pre-events and the meta.
There was one map i did, we succeeded at the meta, so I stayed on the map to do the pre-events, only when time came again for the meta, people had left, and other maps were taxi’ing:(
ya u can only loot the black box from 1 side.
We done a full burn ogre after patch and no achievememnt, however the next patch stated that ogre had still had an issue, so our 1 test lane was useless. so currently the aim should be to hold at 5 % and kill all in last burn to see if its still broken.

The right thing to do is for them to just make the achievement solely based on if your lane killed the Chak Gerent (and you participated). Isn’t that basically the same thing, only simplified and better? Not sure why Anet put in the 3 phase requirements anyways.

Devs – this is ANOTHER instance of requiring an event to fail to get the reward.
Please adjust, as you have with similar scenarios.
I’ve gotten all 4 today just by tagging up per lane and telling people to move at ~5% HP during phase 2. Kinda stupid watching the Gerent flail around dropping boulders on no one for 2 minutes lmao.
Best work around until ANet fixes it.

Today I had to upscale events and told people to not DPS so we barely made it with less than 2% into last phase :/ At least I got 2 lane defender achievements now. 2 to go!

that’s easy enough to fix. They did this fix in SW. Give players a lane specific buff as soon as they kill an egg/give golem energy/stomp a shroom/kill invading char in scar that prevents them from getting cred rlsewhere. Just like the SW extractor boss specific buffs. That way a player has to do at least one pre-gherent spawning phase event for achieve and can’t do others.

I would like now that the lane achieves are fixed that they really look at some of the horrible scaling in the event chains, particularly nuhoch. Almost daily I ask people to bug report something.
Actually a sad thing coming this weeks changes is that the maps quality of chat has went downhill considerably. It was the last bastion of no real bad map chat as only people who didn’t mind the difficulty/needed legendary mats stayed well at least I got 1+ good month of meeting the awesome gw2 people.

You don’t personally have to do the events for that lane.
Most likely he’s like me, and didn’t know there was an actual ‘physical’ chest spawning at the leyline confluence waypoint. It’s not marked on the mini map, so it’s easy to miss.

I have done all four lane defender achievements to grub for the mastery points. It is true that you have to participate and be successful for each of the sub events to get the cheevo. Fortunately you don’t have to do each of the sub events on the same meta cycle. If you miss one you only have to go back for that one.
Mostly I go to this extent to avoid the kittening Adventures as much as possible. I hate those things. Bleech.

You do realize that you’re not failing any events, right? It’s absolutely nothing like the events that you have to fail to spawn the event that has what you need for the collection.

indeed, is an achievement, is normal you might have to do something out of the line.
Also, since I’m pugging/organizing the map since 3 days now with 10 successes so far and 1 fail, I can tell by experience that pugs usually need a 3rd phase to DPS even without thinking of it..if happens just ask to hold DPS for achievement. Not that hard.

Yea it’s tested and proven to work well enough for SW :| wtf. Just re-implement it, Anet likes to redo stuff (looking at you wintersday >.>)
I think the gating should stay, but the hardest adventures should be adjusted a bit. The easy and medium ones should stay as they are.

Except the lane defender achievements do not give mastery points. Only completing the chain of pre-events for the lanes yields a mastery point each.
