Chak hate
I must be doing it wrong. My thief only has about 13k health and I have no issues. I thought I was supposed to die instantly? I’m below the 16k threshold!
There are probably some finer points to fighting these guys that you are missing. For instance, you claim that it’s nearly impossible to see the electricity attack from veteran chak zappers when it’s really a pretty obvious tell. They raise their tail and it begins to glow with lightning just before the attack fires. Watch for it and it’s very easy to dodge/block.
Also, be aware that you can remove their reflect shield by breaking their bar with CC. And they don’t actually do very much attacking while the shield is up, so you could take that time to clear out any additional enemies present.

I hated them at first. But nothing fuels my hatred as much as the Mushrooms. By far the deadliest mobs in all of Heart of Thorns. At least if you pull more than 2 of them.
I actually kind of like pocket raptors now. I almost feel guilty when I vault and one shot them all.
The sharpshooter mordrem and shadowleaper frogs are also quite annoying. I think there has probably been more deaths to sharpshooter ground lazer of doom than to any other mob in this expansion. (Outside of raid bosses.)

Try p/p. Pistol 3 makes short work of mushrooms from a safe distance. Most of the non-veterans take just a single burst before they go down and you never have to get anywhere near them.

What I meant that usually you get oneshotted by the veteran or higher zappers or whatever they are called and even worse when they’re accompanied by sentrys (little flies that make you take more damage and you cant kill them).
Yeah, chak are especially annoying because most of the time, you’re engaging hordes of them in the confines of a tunnel or some other narrow walkway.
That, coupled with the hard-hitting, movement slowing chak goop means you can’t just run past them to reach your destination, which is why I always make it a point to exterminate them whenever I come across them.
SO satisfying.
The ONLY thing I hate about chak is they don’t drop enough Nuhoch hunting stashes. They are easy compared to so many other mobs in HoT. It helps that I have maxed Nuhoch mastery, so the lobbers don’t slow me and I can unglob myself with a dodge roll. But even before, it was a matter of realizing how to kill them effectively.
Chak are level 80 mobs, they should be challenging to solo players in small numbers and very hard to impossible in large numbers. So don’t go solo, ask for help. Learn how to kill chak effectively. Your build may not be best for fighting them, and ANet is not going to change mobs just to suit a single player’s build. Change and adapt or rage and die.
BTW, I absolutely HATE mushrooms, even the weakest of them are more annoyingly difficult than challenging.
The chakk aren’t too bad to fight. But I hate how they tag you into combat while youre trying to get somewhere, then just kind of wander around aimlessly in the area. Not chase you. Not continue to try to kill you, making themselves obvious targets that you can kill to drop out of combat. Nope. Just tag you and hang around just close enough to keep you in combat. And they never travel alone. Meaning there’s no way to know exactly which Chak tagged you. No, you have to stop and kill EVERY chak in the area and hope more don’t join in before you’re done.
I like them. I wish there was more use of their goop/lighting interaction though. Avoiding goop to take less zap damage is a really fun enemy design. When the higher level chak just hit for lots more zap regardless of goop stacks it kind of takes their unique flavor away, not to mention makes the mastry you’re supposed to use to get a leg up on them feel less like a reward.

Definitely the mushrooms. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve died to a couple of these chain knocking me off a cliff.

Always have a reliable stun break on your bar in the jungle! And when it comes to mushrooms, remember that most of their mechanics are significantly easier to avoid from range.
From now on I will name all my hate posts like this.
I hate these things. Same could be said about all HoT enemies but these take the spot. The melee ones are easy enough but the ranged ones (zappers and lobbers) and the one veteran with the thorns shield are the worst. People complain about the damage that HoT enemies do and these are no different. Anything below 16k HP gets taken down instantly by the veterans nearly impossible to see zap plus they are always accompanied by lobbers and zappers. Makes some areas in the TD impossible to travel.
(Dont even mention chak sentries because devs think they were such a great idea.)
I have less than 16K HP and don’t get taken easily. I’m also in glass armor. It’s simply a learn to play issue.

It’s not always possible to keep them at range, like Nuhoch Lane during the TD meta. Stun breaks work once, so if 2-4 of them are knocking down in succession you’re pretty hosed without stability. I play necro, so stability is not something I can reasonably obtain.

Yup. The mushrooms are awful, definitely some of my least liked mobs in the entire game
Incoming fix :
Replacing all Chaks and Mushrooms in the game by Ranged stealthy Ninja Itzel since no one seems to hate them in this thread . ;P
If you have Nuhoch Alchemy and use Bowl of Orrian Truffle and Meat Stew the Chak are easily manageable.
I do agree about the annoying mushrooms though and just avoid them when I can.

Summary of every “it’s too tough” post about GW2.
There’s nothing truly difficult in GW2. Any difficulty one might face is merely a matter of skill or build/gear composition.
And the worst stuff is just upscaled numbers, but that only happens in fractals (agony mainly) and raids (part of ArenaNet’s long standing view that “higher numbers = challenging content” that has been seen since GW1’s so-called hard mode).
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

I play a necro with 20k+ health and no ascended (and above) gear and at most chak enemies are annoying even at veteran but I can still solo them in mobs….slowly lol. They are not too bad, Maybe they got nerfed recently? o.o
The ones I loathe personally are the mushroom enemies, screw them!
and the sad part is I CAN do ranged attacks and they still give me grief. I cannot do the Emperor challenge at all even with 4 extra players >.<
What I meant that usually you get oneshotted by the veteran or higher zappers or whatever they are called and even worse when they’re accompanied by sentrys (little flies that make you take more damage and you cant kill them).
You’re exaggerating. I play a thief with 13k health. A little while I ago I solo’d the two elite chak (one lobber, one zapper) in the SCAR camp event cycle in TD at the same time and had them both die at the same time, so I was fighting them both the entire time. You better believe I was stretching my health bar and utilizing my heals and evasion to do it!
The veterans are not one-shotting you. The only ones that one-shot you are the champions and I believe the only one that can really do it is the champion version of the chak lobber when he does the attack where he rears back and smashes the ground, causing visible cracks. Just don’t be standing there!
You just need to know what you’re doing. For instance, those big chak zappers will put up their shield and literally just sit there for the most part if you leave them alone. So if you’re under pressure from other targets, just use the time while the shield is up to clear the area. Keep an eye out for the odd zap attack which should be easy to spot from outside of the shield.
It’s the lobber that’s dangerous, because it has a couple of knockdowns and it never stops attacking you like the zapper does. So what I do is focus the zapper, forcing it to shield up. Then I focus the lobber, switching back to the zapper the moment the shield drops. The most dangerous point is when they’re both actively trying to kill you, because glass thief may not get one-shot, but two-shot is a distinct possibility when fighting two elites!
As long as you aren’t repeatedly eating their attacks, or getting caught with a stun inside some blue goo while your stun break is on cooldown, the damage should be manageable. It all comes down to knowing the mechanics and reacting accordingly.
Chak are amongst the 5 things I love most in the expac. Burning down tons of them while keeping my engie in the fringe of defeat is amazing.

wouldn’t be so bad except cc’ing them doesn’t work much of the time. I run a guard that has 2 big cc’s and a LB 5 skill that only works on 20% of bars it seems. still cant take down the sentrys without wasting 2 mins waiting for cc’s to recharge to use them again. Ive adjusted my tactics around it, but its still annoying as kitten to be sittin there idle waiting on CD’s to take out a target that’s not even hurting me…

You mean the little wasp-like creatures that shoot the blue lasers, making the chak immune to damage? Yeah, those guys are pretty obnoxious. I think it would be better if they just died to the first application of CC. They would still get in the way quite nicely without forcing you to walk away from so many fights.

Depends on the vet though. There are times when I wade into a drop of Chak with my 12k ele, pop OL, and imploded in less than a second. then look at the damage log and see something like ‘you hit yourself for 13k of lightning damage’… Lol…

I believe the shield provides retaliation against melee attacks while reflecting projectiles. Very dangerous for glass builds using ranged attacks, but you take far less damage from the retaliation if you swap to melee.
Also, I believe the shield is an area effect. I was fighting those 2 elite chak in the SCAR event cycle again last night. I dropped back to range because my heal was on CD, swapped to pistols, and fired off unload just as the blitzer’s model overlapped the shield and sure enough! It reflected it even though I wasn’t firing at the shielded target. So watch out for that as well.
They may not one-shot you, but you can still one-shot yourself! Or I guess for my thief it would be 8-shot from unload! LoL
I love the Chak believe it or not. They test your survivability limits against a horde of enemies (scenario). My reaper, tempest, and scrapper makes short work of them. It’s is so fun taking them all on at once. Especially in the SCAR section of the map with their events. As a whole I actually prefer Tangled Depth to any of the heart of thorn maps. Especially over Auric Basin which I find to be a bore and poorly designed (gated progress and Octovine half-baked meta boss design). Only redeeming thing is the Skritt and their events.
I don’t have an issue with Chak, as obnoxious as they can be against my Ranger (I refuse to turn my savage killer into a hippy druid!). Sure, the big veterans can be a pain (Lobbers and blitzers), but the little ones are managable.
The only place I’ve ever had a problem is the stupid Champ Stonehead area in Dragon’s Stand, where Everything Has A Breakbar and the Smokescales Come In Packs (meaning chained, wide-area smokescreens)
What about pocket raptors? they can be fun to kill……until you realize that if you try to outrun they are probably the only enemy that can kill you XD
The thing I hate most about chak is that they are deliberately OP unless you have masteries trained. It’s a cheap shot and not how progression should work.
Rolling devils are the worst though. If one comes up behind you while you are running and you don’t see it, it will chain hit you 10 times before you even know it’s there (it hits you as long as it is in your hitbox, you are both moving in same direction so it stays in your hitbox as you move), gg instadeath.

Which masteries? the goop thing one? I have never needed it. You just need to evade those pools of stuff.

Chaks are fantastic let them be! Not everything in the game has to be a defenseless goblin waiting to explode when the protagonist look at it.
Give yourself some times and you will learn to deal with them properly. Same for Mordrems and the rest…
Chak are fun to play with – endless fun! There are always more so it is like a bottomless barrel of monkeys… or acid.

Can’t speak for OP but learning how to fight Chak effectively didn’t make me hate them any less. Same with mushrooms. I just find them to be incredibly annoying enemies

I can appreciate chak design and still not like fighting them. But usually, I don’t mind beating on a few while getting around.
Mushrooms make me wonder why the canon storyline isn’t “burn down the entire forest with gasoline.” We can relocate the nice froggies to nice spots in Tyria while we flamigate (it’s like fumigating, but with fire) Maguuma to be rid of the various menaces.

Chak must be related to the Karka. Silly bugs need to be stomped.
