I have a question, best if answered by an Anet official or just a person who knows for 100 %. Will the free character slot be given to players who add HoT to an already existing account ? I’m a person who enjoys having a physical version of the game and some time after HoT was available for pre-purchase I bought the physical version at cdp.pl ( game wil be shipped to be before or at the day of release ) and I’m worried that the slot, which was supposed to be for revenant will not be granted to me, because I bought the game through a third party. So I need some clarification whether the extra slot is just for pre=purchase through the main page or for adding HoT code to an already exisiting account.

I bought the physical version at Amazon and got the extra character slot.

Can I pre-purchase through my favorite retailer?

Yes. Starting on June 23, 2015, you’ll be able to pre-purchase boxed and digital editions of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns from our official retail partners (additional retailers may be added during the pre-purchase period). You may also be able to pre-order through retailers, but there is no official pre-order program and pre-purchasing is the only way to receive the benefits of our pre-purchase program, including access to all of the Beta Weekend Events.

Free character slot

If you registered your core Guild Wars 2 game before January 23, 2015 and register a pre-purchase serial code for Heart of Thorns any time before the expansion is released, you’ll receive a free character slot! Once you apply a pre-purchase serial code, you’ll be eligible for the slot regardless of where you bought the core game.

If the serial code you used to register the core game came from a retail vendor (rather than buy.guildwars2.com or in-game) and was applied to your account between January 23, 2015 and June 16, 2015, you’ll also be eligible for a free character slot if you apply a Heart of Thorns pre-purchase serial code before the expansion release.

All accounts that become eligible by July 9 will have their free character slot applied by July 10. Eligible accounts that are upgraded with a pre-purchase serial code after July 10 will receive their slots on a weekly basis after that.

There is a physical pre-purchase edition, but the actual physical standard edition will not be available until after launch. It sounds like you’ve pre-ordered the standard edition. In that case, you will not receive the free character slot, which is granted by simply applying a HoT serial key before launch.
