I know that Chak are a hive-mind and that even the ogres in Tangled Depths struggled to tame the Chak. But what if there was a small method to obtaining a Chak pet as a Ranger? Make it something you have to work for, making it all the more worth it.

I was thinking something like using pheromones to have them consider you friendly and only obtainable under special circumstances like the Juvenile Electric Wyvern. Or some Asuran interference with their tech.

Chak are an intelligent, sentient race; they aren’t pets. You can use a chak mini instead.

3 years ago I asked for skelk pets. I thought it would be cool to unleash a disappearing / reappearing pet on a wvw foe. 1 year ago we got smokescale. Not exactly the same thing, but it works.

If rangers were going to get chak as a pet, it probably would’ve happened by now. Maybe in the next expansion something close will come along though.

They don’t have Karka pets either, because they are sentient.

Yeah, I know. Nothing like the Gerents, like a Drone or Slinger, easier to trick/confuse. But I know it’s wishful thinking. The only Minis are a Gerent and Lobber, not one of the cute little guys. =( They make such cute sounds.

I’m sorry but where does it say that chak are sentient? It was my understanding they were drawn to leyline energy, which isn’t indication of sentient. They don’t seem to have plans, or make strategy. If I missed something, I’d like to know.

The Ogres are unable to tame the Chak because they have a hive-mind (like the Zerg), and thus taming an individual is not something that is possible to do.

They end up just using them as weapons instead …

It nowhere says they are sentient or have a hivemind. Just that they cannot be tamed.

At least in the ogre event chain that is. It has very little information or dialogue going on for that matter.

And the ogres can tame a lot of things that PCs can’t… at least, not yet.

Yes, the larger Chak are too smart to be tamed, I was thinking more towards the lesser Chak (Lurker, Slinger, Zapper) as there have been events where you can trick the smaller guys to being friendly to you and aid you.

The Nuhoch Meta is a great example of this, you stomp on spores to get friendly chak, the name of the event even says " Release fungal spores to lure out the gerent and control lesser chaks’ minds".

So why not a Ranger use Spores to tame a lesser Chak? The Ogre’s didn’t attempt this so it was why they couldn’t find a way to tame them.

Oh I think it’s a good theory. Just like to have hard proof.

On the contrary, is that there are friendly tiny Chak in Nuhoch as well as in the Ogre village after obtaining the eggs.

The event chain feels very empty since there is literally no talk of why they come to the conclusion that Chak can’t be tamed.

I haven’t been around the ogre village often enough to comment there, but I can say that you don’t have friendly chak around the Nuhoch area, or at least if there ever are, it’s rare enough that you can spend a lot of time in the area and never see them. You may be getting confused with the beetles that the Nuhoch raise and train for combat.

No it’s during the Meta Event in the Nuhoch lane where to stomp on the spores. If you notice the name of the event it says you control lesser chak, then you’ll see friendly chak NPCs helping you fight in the lane if people stomp on plenty of spores on the mushrooms.

A chak would be a cool pet……
