What the hell guys, calm yoselves

45 euros for the xpac isn’t that much of a hastle.

We got a triple A game (try to deny me, you play it as well) for 3 years that has offered us TONS and TONS of free content post-release, a revolution in mmos and many other things, this is the only mmo i keep returning to. Now we get an xpac, and you guys freak out.

why would any of you think we won’t get another bunch of free feature packs on top of the expansions promised content? weren’t the feature packs we got enough of an example of what they will give us post HOT-release?

The only thing I can slightly understand is the hate over the “favoring” of new players (with the add of the base game to hot without adding something for vets). But I do think they will sort that out.

Please do discuss with me why you think this xpac isn’t worth the 45 euros.

As it is it is barely worth $20. They literally haven’t told us anything about it. All we know so far is about 1 map with 3 “levels” aka 1 map. One really kittenty open world boss fight. The Wyvern was easily defeated by a bunch of celestial Revenants who didn’t even know how to play the class in the first beta. Guild Halls which should have arguably been in the game since launch. And masteries which we also don’t know much about….

You can’t say what it is worth unless you have played the entire expansion. That goes both ways. Is it worth $50? Maybe to some it is since the game has provided them with hours of fun.

Again this is a pre-order for those that think it is worth it and want to jump right into HoT when it launches. If from what you have seen so far and you think it is not worth it then don’t pre-order it.. You are not being forced to pre-order. That option is there and it is up to everyone to decide for themselves if it is worth it or not.

Wow mind my own business? Last I looked this is a public forum where people discuss things. If you don’t want people to jump into the discussion keep your opinions to yourself. [[I GOT REALLY CARRIED AWAY AND WROTE AN ESSAY, I’M SO SORRY]]

Yo, can I just say that I’m tired of the whole “we don’t know anything?” act?

We don’t know EVERYTHING. And we sure don’t know the release date. But we do know:

That we’re getting three large maps, minimum- Maguuma, Guild Hall 1, Guild Hall 2 (Both were described recently as being very large, needing to be progressed into to fully unlock.)

That we’re getting a new class, which required new tech to create, and that same new tech was used to modify old classes. For example, the tech for some of the Revenant’s skills that relate to enemy placement have been used for a Grandmaster Guardian trait that causes an AoE fire pulse on their target, instead of around the character.

We’re getting an entire new mode of navigation and transportation in the form of the hang glider.

We’re getting new writing, new voice acting, new art assets, new armor and weapons, and those last ones, for once, don’t seem to be via the gem store. Which frankly is a breath of fresh air these days.

We’re getting a new crafting discipline, scribing. The details of that should be coming out, what, TODAY? And from how it sounds so far, it’s like… interior decorating as a profession. Should be rad.

We’re getting Guild vs. Guild back from GW1, along with what basically amounts to Alliance chat. That’s a quality of life feature, but it’s a feature.

We’re getting new legendaries, and the possibility has been discussed here on these forums about a legendary trinket, which would be a pretty neat change of pace. We don’t even know WHAT to expect with those, but oh- while they’re on the table, the entire Legendary mastery track is a pretty big deal of content. Especially when you consider the new precursor scavenger hunt content, which is straight up more game content + a quality of life update, rolled into one.

And that’s just PvE and crafting and some minor PvP elements. We also get an entire new sPvP gamemode, which seems pretty technical and has been sorely needed after so long with a few different flavors of Conquest.

Oh, and the entire new WvW borderlands, with some seriously interesting mechanics. Take the red castle, gain immunity to lava? And there are SHORTCUT PATHS in the lava? It’s a smarter map design, and clearly a lot went into it.

And beyond that? How about a new weapon, set of spells, and general playstyle available for every single class? That not significant at all to you? Because it’s pretty significant to me. My Engineer will finally have a melee option that feels really heavy and impactful, instead of a crowbar and a box of nails.

What we don’t have is a bulleted list of every feature announced so far in the expansion. Anet’s also been uncomfortably hush-hush about what they mean by “Challenging Group Content,” and I hope to god they get on that soon, because even I have been getting pretty antsy about it. I’ll be real with you, I hope it’s a dungeon.

No, no I don’t. I hope it’s a raid. We’re in the right area for it, and the theories are going around, people digging deep into GW1 geography and lore to pinpoint where big PvE content might be. And since Anet’s so focused on bringing back their own old lore, I’d say those theorycrafters are on the right track.

So I’ll repeat. We don’t know everything. We don’t know enough. But we’re starting to know a whole hell of a lot, and it’s getting really tiresome to hear the same, “oh just one map one class” thing, day in and day out, when it isn’t true at all anymore.

Hooh. And having concluded all that, I agree with the OP. Partially.

The price point is a little high, if you would rather know everything right away. I can appreciate that frame of mind. Sometimes not knowing everything can make you feel like you’re on the receiving end of some caveat emptor stuff.

But at the same time, this is a box sale. Because GW2 makes money from box sales. Their box sale income is important, because they can’t keep the lights on just from the gem store. Not forever. So, we end up paying box price for a box sale. And people who aren’t us, who aren’t here talking about it because they don’t have the game yet, see a box- a digital one, but a Single Unit- on sale. It’s a new game they can play.

They don’t have to buy a bunch of extra crap. They don’t have to go back and buy Guild Wars 2 Vanilla, and Guild Wars 2: Mists of Pandaria, just to play Guild Wars 2: Heartlords of Draethorn. That’s not taking anything away from us. It’s just giving something to them. It’s not unfair, because we aren’t losing anything.

I know this thread called for us to chill, so I’m sorry for writing an essay. But at the same time, these past couple days have made me so, so tired.

A lot of the “content” we are getting is basically copied and pasted code like crafting and armor. Crafting is not important and not many people bother with it. Small percentage wanted the ascended crap. But none of the content you mentioned is really exciting and worth $50. Plus it’s 3 levels on one map, so it’s one map we are getting, not 3.

It needs to have 5 maps that have 3 biomes, the personal story needs to thread through it all, we need to have enough challenging what/evers to off set the fact that ANet disbanded their dungeon team, it needs at least 3 Teq quality fights, and Mordremoth better be epic.

Technically, the “free” feature packs even for the base game aren’t free. You bought the core game, so you now have access to core game feature packs. If you buy HoT, you will then have access to the HoT feature packs. Pretty clear. And yes, there will be feature packs for HoT. Almost all of the new content updates will be exclusively for the expansion. If you are okay with not getting updates for the base game anymore (except holidays), feel free to keep playing the base game.

You don’t think it’s worth fifty bucks, you don’t feel like you know enough about it, and you want a release date especially. I get that. I’m not gonna EVER tell you that you’re wrong for that. I feel you entirely.

My enormous, flagrant essay serves to illustrate only that we know more than “one class one map.” Because I’m so, so, so so so so tired of hearing it, when they’ve been telling us about Everything Else since it was announced.

I’m sorry if I stepped on anyone’s toes, but I’m saying this now because I won’t be able to keep up with the thread. This conversation is pretty lively, and it’s gonna go way beyond me and what I know in the time that I’m gone.

Some of us are taking the stand on the principle that they duped people into buying the core edition, were not honest about it (in fact they tried to hide it), some appreciation should be should to those of us who made this expansion possible with our wallets, and basically just don’t be scummy about it. Be up front, listen to us, and for the love of god, give us some form of an explanation.

Like, seriously. Follow their content updates! They keep telling us all this stuff that’s going to be in HoT, and people keep missing it because they don’t read the articles.

I’m not here to do your homework for you, but you can do all the homework you want, reading the blog posts and watching the videos to get all caught up on the features.

I’ll say again, Arenanet messed up by not giving us like, a rolling summary page or something, that updates with new features as they talk about them. Nobody knows what the heck’s going into this expansion because you have to read the friggin’ Library of Congress just to get it all figured out!

You really think they going to give you all that in 1 expansion? think again. Probably a year will pass before all that.

Funny thing is, that year will still be within the expansion. All of the future content updates are going to be for HoT, so if they have not released a new expansion in that time frame, then they will still be putting stuff out for HoT. We’ve been in a content drought because they are developing HoT, but after it gets released we will certainly see more.

Year AFTER the expansion is release.

[[I GOT REALLY CARRIED AWAY AND WROTE AN ESSAY, I’M SO SORRY]]

-snip-

Thank you very much.

Also I think that you shouldn’t hang up on that one-map-idea.
Look at Guild Wars 1. Maguuma Jungle is HUGE. Why do you think we should only get one map with this? We also know relativly sure that every expansion brings a new dragon. So there wouldn’t be a point to save the rest of Maguuma for a later expansion, which again means that at some point of the Living World you will get to explore everything in Maguuma.
And I say it again: It’s huge.

Instead of paying to get everything at once now, playing through it the next 3 weeks and beeing finished they keep up your motivation and your playtime for a long period of time. That’s very nice.
All you have to do is to trust them because you know that Guild Wars 2 is an awesome game and will stay an awesome game.

I’m definitly looking forward to it. And I’m sure you will like it as well once you understand this.

Yet the content they are giving us will take one day to do depends on how long it downloads and when it’s released. It’s not much of a story, nothing to do or explore, and I thought gw2 was never gonna have mounts? Anet starting to copy wow.

Not sure if sarcasm….. and how did you get mounts out of this?

THE ENTIRE THREAD….

I know this thread called for us to chill, so I’m sorry for writing an essay. But at the same time, these past couple days have made me so, so tired.

Loved your entire post. All of this and more is why I am SO EXCITED for the xpac. Yes, it is an xpac. Yes, I did buy it. Just because I did, posted an excited post thanking Anet, and act a bit fangirlish doesnt mean I (and others) deserve to be attacked by the pitchfork crowd.

Im just freaking excited!!

1 map with “challenging content” that we dont know anything about (I guess similar to farming Silverwastes area) is not an expansion. Its a feature pack maybe….

some ppl comparing it to wow expansion:
wow (40$ plus 10$ monthly):
10 dungeons
6 raids
100 new armors
150 quests
20 mounts
1 continent
(10 big maps)
1 class
new skills
new levels
regular updates
new pvp maps
new arena
new gear (pvp , pve)
….. (numbers are not right but hey lets compare)

compare this to HoT.
50$ (no char slot)
1 class
1 wvw map
(don’t know about new pvp maps I guess 0)
1 pve map (3 maps in one)
1 big boss fight
specializations (8)
guild halls (3 years too late)
…missed anything?

hands briggah some popcorn Its been like this. I tried to post a Thank you to Anet post, being nice, and gotta attacked by the guys with pitchforks.

Yeah, you tried to be nice by calling everyone that had a different opinion from yours noisy spoilt brats.

I said SOME of their attitudes were coming across as bratty, and only after those that had that attitude came into my thread attacking me because I was saying thank you. That is totally different than calling all those with different opinions from mine spoiled brats. If you are going to say what I said, please get it right.

Infact, it was a reponse to ONE person was exactly “I dont get what the real issue is, honestly. The whining, complaining, kittening and moaning….well honestly, it seems so bratty and just quite unbecoming.” Not sure how that is calling EVERYONE with a different opinion to mine bratty.

Numbers don’t lie.

Seeing as everyone doesn’t post here and pretty much only those that want to share their opinions do. I’d say numbers do not matter.

You really think people want to make happy threads when they are constantly de-railed/high-jacked by someone else and then it just turns into a flame war?

When or if anet releases that amount of copies they have sold of HoT. Numbers will not really mean anything.

It’s not sarcasm. Each living story they introduced to us as “content” has been a day or less worth of stuff that was all buggy. Anything you ride or glide with is considered a mount.
I play gw2 for wvw and the new map is not living up for the fights yet for ppt. So no I will not be buying this loving story for $50 unless it’s like $20.

While most living story stuff did take a day or less to complete, you are also forgetting that during those time, most of those had open world events that lasted until the next release. A lot people farmed those events for the entire two weeks to make gold or get items that only dropped during those events.

There are a lot of attacks on people who don’t mind it and it’s sad that people are so miserable they have to try to drag those who are not down with them. I wish people could just say “Hey, that’s great that you’re happy! I’m not so much, but good for you!” Instead you see “Well if you’re happy getting SCAMMED you sheep! How dare you enjoy getting something everyone is kittened at!” I mean, I can understand the debate posts where people are looking to persuade/dissuade the masses and people have opposing opinions. But come on people, don’t poop on someone else’s excitement just because you’re upset!

Edit: BTW Kitiara, I read that thank you post and I thought it was nice. I was sad to see the vitriol that came after.

It’s pretty bad when reviews are asking why they haven’t explained them selves yet.

I read on Reddit that refunds are being offered for at least 2 months, just saying.

Yes numbers don’t mean anything unless anet gives us a number of how many copies they sold.

Example:

So say the first day they sold 10,000 copies of HoT but have 4,000 threads of complaints. Which number is greater then?

Unless you know for a fact how many copies were sold you can not use numbers of threads to make your point. For all we know they may have sold 5 copies or maybe they even sold 50,000 copies.. We just don’t know.

Was that really hard to understand?

I haven’t counted the unique replies to that thread, but I know, for example, that Dragonhunter Name Feedback thread had over 2000 replies but most of it was the same 10-15 people going around and around in circles. Occasionally a few people would jump in, but the number of people in that thread was relatively small.

I would like to see what they manage to sell for the pre-purchase. I think it would be interesting for comparison to when HoT releases. Though, they have definitely sold more than 5 copies (albeit that point is a bit pedantic).

refunds, yes, but in doing so the user loses any bought gems, any heroic edition upgrades, all progression, and quite possibly the ability to link to a GW1 account.

it’s true that people can get a refund, but:

  • that’s a legal requirement
  • the user loses progression/gems
  • this is only an issue because Anet didn’t change their FAQ sooner.
