Bringing back to life a 3 year old post that made this question and brought many people alot of enlightment, but now considering all the elite specializations that came with HoT in count too.

Question is the titled: Which class is the most and least boring to play, and why?

I find myself wanting to change the class i play after a small time cycle, even after i have had lots os good and fun moments with it. You can say either for PvE or PvP, if you could, please.

As most fun to play – Thief, hands down. It has so much mobility and is super squishy. You have to pay good attention to what you are doing all the time, no matter what you are doing (PvP, WvW, PvE). Also the damage output is super sweet, its always nice to see enemies go down in seconds without any previous preperation (i.e. stacking might).

Most boring one.. mm.. have to go with a Guardian. To me the gameplay simply does not appeal as much. They seem sluggish and slow.

This is a question that you’re likely to get a lot of different answers to, since the concept of the different professions is to appeal to different players with different preferences.

For instance, I’d put guardians and mesmers at the top of my ‘fun level’ list: I like making use of active defenses and countermeasures, particularly those that subvert what the enemy is trying to do, and those two are strong in that area. Given that you appear to be asking the question in part based on HoT changes, though, I’d say that chronomancer enhances the fun more than dragonhunter does: Chronophantasma in particular makes it a lot more viable to use shatters in PvE as anything other than a finishing move.

Most boring, I’d probably go with the ranger. Both their weapon skills and their utilities have always felt a bit pedestrian to me. I used to enjoy throwing traps with the ground-targeted trap trait, but losing that trait and dragonhunter showing up with traps of its own means that nowadays traps are something of a case of ’I’ll have more fun doing that with DH’. Druid doesn’t really feel like it helps, either: they’re powerful burst healers for those who like that, but the ‘transform, spam heals until there’s no healing to be done or the transform runs out, revert back and have to build up before you can do it again’ playstyle doesn’t really appeal to me. I’d like to enjoy it more, but every time I play it I find myself yearning for the tricks that other professions have that the ranger doesn’t.

That said, at the risk of being immediately proved wrong, I think there are some professions that are objectively unlikely to be in anyone’s ‘most boring’ list: namely, thieves with their high reliance on dodges, and elementalists with their focus on attunement-switching and combos. They might not be everyone’s cup of tea and some people might find them frustrating and useless (steep learning curves…) but I think it would be hard to find either boring.

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.

I am not very experienced in PvP with many profession but so far I did not find one to be really boring because the environment makes you unable to really lock yourself in a routine.
As far as PvE is concerned, mainly in open world, I find Warrior, ranger an to some extent Ele (depending on the build) on the boring side. On the other hand, I never find myself bored when I play Engi, Mesmer and Thief (in the case of thief I feel tired for my character because she spent the last hour jumping in every direction though )

Fresh air tempest is currently my favorite.

Imo the most boring class award goes to herald. Just toggle on facets and sword 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 until your target dies.

Imo the most boring class award goes to herald. Just toggle on facets and sword 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 until your target dies.

In pve maybe. Play another game mode and you’ll see just how boring pve really is.

I’ve always found the thief boring. You never have any ‘big’ moments…just constant dodging then hitting the enemy with all you got before you have to dodge away. It gets boring fast for me…or perhaps tedious is a better word.

My favorite is the reaper, no one else can go “where are there 8+ mobs?” and your first thought is to charge into the very middle of them all…AND STAY THERE. That is fun to me, constantly having to dodge every few seconds gets old fast. Being able to take the biggest hits several enemies have all at the same time…and just laugh it off without having to even use a defensive? THAT is fun. But then I prefer tanks in traditional MMOs so…to be expected.

And so begins the wonderful thing about GW2 – classes range in appeal very much. Also keep in mind many won’t have levelled to even trying elite versions. I come from Open PvE/Level/WvW perspective; and limited Raiding. Also, I am a support/heal oriented player; others come from a purely DPS or PvP perspective; I mean some classes just play better/more fun in PvP than PvE and vice versa.

Example: My personal most boring – Warrior and Mesmer (until I got Chrono; I love the support but never got into the clones play; portals however are one of my favorite things in game just everything else, eh).

Favs: Guardian (traveler runes! The pally style I love that Warrior wasn’t. And I love ALL the weaps; all my favs)

Druid (the heal/buff support I love; plays different from core ranger, at least with staff – but it’s far from a worthless burst healer as someone said above. Also, pets! And also I WvW more with my Druid so there’s that)

Tempest/Ele and Engi tho engi less these days. I enjoy the kits and attunement style lots of variety and Tempest is great DPS, support, heals well rounded. And speeeed!

Clarification: I never said “worthless” – in fact, the adjective I used was “powerful”. I just find I don’t enjoy it myself – when I play a healing build, I prefer a more measured cadence over having a normal mode with relatively little healing and a supercharged mode which is almost all healing.

I also tend to prefer prevention/mitigation over pure healing, and druid has relatively little of that.

Another part of it is that I just find all of the weaponsets boring. YMMV – like I said, this is an inherently subjective discussion.

I also vote thief. It plays very fast and you can either die very quickly or sustain forever depending upon how well you time your dodges.
