I miss the sense of wonder and I got from exploring Tyria pre-HoT. I feel like i’ve been in a dungeon since HoT came out…

I know what you mean op. The new maps tend to create this feeling as if the world is closing in on you. ArenaNet’s weirdly narrow field of view doesnt help either. But if you zoom out in the jungle you lose sight of your toon and surrounding at times.

I on the other hand have no idea what you mean. Have you been in any dungeons recently? They aren’t full of trees and mobs and other people.

Blame Abaddon, he loves your tears.

The shiverpeaks would be perfect for a mix of open ice plains/ lakes and massive mountain ranges/glaciers. with underground ice/rock caves. A balance of old/new map design would be best in my opinion. There could be a new mastery called ‘Mountain climbing’. And ice fishing of course.

HoT is heavily layered with narrow paths compared with older open world.

Also, I am sad because there is so little new under water content.

Yea, considering the water tunnels in TD, I was expecting something fun for water events. Maybe a miniboss that snaked around in them

I’t doesn’t have to be a mess to travel into it. If you look at the jungle in EOTN (GW1), well…that’s simply amazing. I can understand one map like the ones we have now, not the entire expansion, it’s too much for a game that pushes on the artistic aspect of the world too. They had to give gliding a meaning, I can understand that, but I hope that in the future we will see more open maps.
Because I think Anet is losing great opportunities, artistically speaking. They are able to create beautiful worlds to explore (ascalonian maps, for example, or the low level tyrian ones), but it’s a pity that they push so hard on post apocalyptic maps as the game progresses (that’s why I loved the expansions of the original GW more than the core game). They should make parts of the maps corrupted by the influence of the various dragons, not entire maps. I like to explore amazing places, not a desolated cemetery after another, filled with undeads only.

Isn’t this more a problem of taste ? I can understand tangled depths (even though by the name I don’t think it should be anything open), but verdant brink and auric basic don’t really have this problem. At least not excessive – personally if feels reasonable to the concept of a jungle (and I think Tarir classifies as amazing)

I agree though that in the future it should alternate a bit. Open maps are also good. Somewhere along the lines of ‘hot was enough, let’s try something else next time’

Naval combat. No trees, no verticality. Just ocean from horizon to horizon. You finds your ship, fixes your ship, sails your ship, fights other ships, harpoons quagga..er, whales and sings sea songs.

Shiverpeaks were my favorite maps, and to make me come back it needs maybe
a Jormag expansion .. with maps that are no mazes and where you can actually
see further then 10 meters.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

They should make some maps for the Crystal Desert. Don’t get much more open than that, and they were really pretty in GW1. Now I think they’re supposed to look a bit greener in most areas, so that’d be neat.

I feel like the HoT maps just seem too chaotic. I long for more basic maps with many different towns and villages all with their own little lore. The closest you can relate to this is Queensdale, but that doesn’t really contain any villages either.

i think the next expansion will be in the crystal desert and the continent of Elona, i lo ved Elona very much. i don’t mind the claustrophobic feeling of hot since it gives a measure of the danger you are facing but more open world map would be definitely welcome

I like this idea as long as there is also a huge maze of floating drebris, including shipwreked vessels, coral formations, giant marine creature carcasses, etc. Something like that oceanic level on Uncharted 3.
