Collection Wars 2
If you don’t want to collect things, then you don’t have to. You have the entire lifespan of the game to complete what you deem worthy of doing.
If you’d rather farm lumber in Orr, or do jump puzzles all day, more power to you.
Yeah, I’m not a fan of the collections. They are a nice idea, but some are just crazy. Not to mention the RNG of it all. I spent an hour the other day trying to finish the junk collection. After killing I have no idea how many crabs to get the shell to drop, which it didn’t I gave up. If It is this hard to finish the trash one, how hard will the ones that offer valuable items take/cost dew to RNG?

I like collections. I try to finish them all.
Not a fan of collections myself, but I have to admit, the specialization collections and others that were available saved me a lot of coin from having to craft ascended items, and even more time from having to wait for some RNG drop. Plus, new skins, regardless of the fact that I’ll never use them. Those I could appreciate more than the rest.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
The collections of collections are old hat. We need collections for collecting collections. And then collections of those.
Collections are fine as an addition, and give a nice goal to strive for when i’m done doing regular stuff. Gives more diversity.
More anoying are collections that are now at 99%, but require one last special item (the Koss on Koss Ascended item, for example, or the jar of lost souls from AC, or the siege master spoon from WvW) to complete.
It would be nice if collections were a bit more lower level, or that they require more of a scavenging hunt rather than grinding certain area.
Collections that simply fill up as you play are very convenient, but also lack a bit dedication.
In general though, I’m happy with them as they are. Some I can’t/won’t/refuse to complete, but that is fine.
I look at the collections as a “sticker book”. When I was a younger, I love collecting stickers of all sorts, just to fill the entire book.
Likewise, being the sucker for collections I am, I Iearnt one thing: the road to disappointment comes when you try to rush everything towards completion. Just like my stickers, I took my time to collect and eventually the book is filled.
Don’t rush to complete! Enjoy the slow progress, all while doing the other contents offered. Yes, I whine and complain (to guildies) at times but everytime I do that, I strive harder. Some comments here are right: we all have choices and if collections are not your thing, you always have the power to do something else.

Collections are pretty much my end game now. It’s end game for the rest of us. It’s supposed to be difficult.

If collections are end game, then there is something really wrong with them.

How so?
I appreciate that collections give me little, reachable goals. Most of the time. When some collections take thousands of gold (Treasure Hunter, Exotic collection, Black Lion skins), I question the devs greatly (again).
But overall, I like them.
..even if there are entirely too many and I become paralyzed by choice. XD

I hate the notion of collecting almost anything. If it has no inherent use to me, I throw it away, nor will I ever care to purchase or experience it. Collections were a great idea for rewarding people who like to do that kind of stuff. Providing no alternate paths to such content was imho a poor idea.

what’s the alternate for collecting stuff?
Using currency systems from other formats like WvW or sPvP for items which have definitive or explicit means of acquisition with no mechanically-equivalent alternatives would be nice.
As in, the reward from a collection is given via item gathering in PvE, or through unique rewards achieved by capturing keep/tower lords in WvW, winning on certain professions in PvP/number of wins/rewards track items and the likes. The collection is advanced when one of them is reached, all of which should be designed with similar completion times in mind, but to cater and reward players for spending time in the game doing what they like, if only breaking from the norm in a slightly different a way.

How so?
RNG. The fact I can spend hours killing mobs for a junk item to drop and it never drops.
Yes I did check the wiki to make sure I was killing the right mobs.

What are your killing that you’re not getting loot from. I’ve completed a bunch of collections with RNG, doesn’t mean one isn’t bugged.

The junk collection. I need one of the shells, I forget which. I spent 2-3 hours straight before Christmas trying to get it. After that long I just gave up.

I completed the junk collection without ever actually trying to complete it. I just played as I normally do, and the junk eventually came to me.

The majority of this game is based on RNG, collections are one of the few things where RNG favors the player. (minus a few).
