Just wondering… will I be missing out on a lot if I do not buy the expansion right now? It looks like it adds a lot of stuff to the current professions and adds in a new one.. but does all of this come after max level in original GW2 (revenant professions, class specializations, etc)?
This is with regards to both PVE and PVP

Welcome back! You can play the revenant profession in early levels but everything else in the expansion (specializations, masteries, new maps etc) is after lvl 80.

Awesome, thank you!
I’ll look up revenant videos then, see if I’ll like it haha.
How do specializations work in PVP? I know for PVP you’re put at max level and everything is equal except skill (other than WPVP) so can we choose a specialization without HOT or no?
Once you choose a specialization are you essentially a new profession and you can’t switch back?
Like if I chose Druid then I’m a Druid and no longer a ranger and have a whole new set of skills and weapons?

Put it this way, even PvE players complained about this expansion!
And as for WvW players, well the new Deserted Borderlands are just that, deserted! Many more WvW guilds have left the game and everyone queues for EB only these days. Only go to the Deserted BLs to wait for their queue to pop.
Dont bother buying HoT if you really want to buy it, wait the end of this year when they will launch the next expansion and buy that; you will get HoT free with it then.
Nope you can switch your specializations back and forth in the build menu. I tried the druid specialization and went back to being a regular ranger, druid just didn’t click with me.

Partially inaccurate. Yes you will get HoT rolled into the next expansion if you wait to buy it. No it may not be by the end of this year; I do not recall any ANet statement of a time frame beyond “we have teams working on the next expansion” and “when it’s ready.”

Hopefully Anet learned from their pricing mistake. Those that bought the core when it 1st came out, then paid full price again for HoT should get the next expansion at a reduced price.( i.e. cheaper than players that have never paid for and owned previous versions). None of this pay the same price as 1st timers pricing.

didnt know that there will be another expansion coming out. also havent played the game in a years. just started few days ago. havent even completed the main story yet. was too busy exploring the maps.
but it did switch over my entire character and her abilities, weapons, etc. the only difference i have noticed is the leveling system. it looks a bit different and also showed me 0 again. only for the amount of time i have played i should be level 3 but the number still hasnt changed. so i dont know what is going on there. i have seen other players who are over 135.
i know that in the main game i was already level 80 and since then it never went up again, now im 0 after starting HoT and no increasing number. i must be missing something here. also i see other players flying. havent worked it out yet how this works.

how many times does it need to be said until the obvious sinks in, you DID NOT pay twice for core, you payed the average price for an AAA expansion. those that did not have core were offered core for free as an incentive to join our community.
If you bought a music album 5 years ago for $10 then saw that you can get that album for free as a special offer now with a new release would you bleet about that too, ofc not.

You need to do the first bit of personal story in HoT. Basically activate the story in your Hero Panel then follow the green stars starting at Red fort in SW. When you’ve done the first chapter you will be at the east end of Verdant Brink and will have one HoT mastery point. Click on the little square at the right end of the XP bar to open your Mastery panel. Click on the Gliding trait line to make sure you are training that.
Then do events/exploration in VB until your xp bar fills up. When it is full, click on the little square at the end again, and click on the right end of the Gliding mastery line. It will ask if you want to spend your mastery point on it, say yes.
You will now have gliding and will automatically glide if you hold your space bar down when you jump off something. You will also have a “1” by your name to show you have spent one mastery point. That number will go up as you gain more mastery points and spend them. If you train a mastery tier that needs 8 mastery points, then you will have a jump of 8 in your number.
I hope that helps.

this has opened my hero menu and i was indeed able to select few things my character can train but the number still hasnt increased. i know i have finished the first chapter because the game rewarded me for it and got the achievement.
am i still missing something?

You have to fill up your XP(Mastery Training) bar, before you can spend your Mastery Point(s). Once you spend Mastery Point(s), your number will increase (by the amount of Mastery Points spent).
Good luck.

the weird thing is, that i have a point available but i cant use it. below it i have 5 points and can only select one of three to be trained but still have 5 points available but cannot put them somewhere.

You can’t spend any points, anywhere, until the requisite XP bar is filled. How far is the yellow indicator on your XP bar?

Well 1st, the expansion wasn’t full price (though near it). 2nd people who bought the original game played for hundreds and thousands of hours. If this isn’t worth the price of 60€ I don’t know…

Don’t forget that many bought gems/gem cards etc with real money as well. And got what I consider ( I am sure there are others who would agree, but I only speak for myself) a slap no matter what slant some supporters may advocate.
