Compensation for build destruction?
Ascended gear destroys horizontal (stat) progression.
Not many care about it now, because zerker is the only stat set you need. But the day other stat sets become equally desired, and content becomes better for it, ascended gear will become the number one complain.
I agree it should allow us to swap stats. Or, perhaps, have ascended stats for each equipment type to be unlockable in a wardrobe.
I run that build for PvP bunkering so I’ll miss that trait a bit too.
But, I don’t think losing elixir-bombs will render that gear “useless”
In fact, looking over the trait and skill reworks, I think there will be MORE viable medi-Engie build variations.
The devs said even if they remove certain things, they want to maintain the “spirit” of all the old builds. The new “Heal on blast finisher” trait is functionally in the spirit of what elixir infused bombs was. You won’t be spamming constant heals on every attack, but then you still get those heals while not in your bomb kit which makes you a little bit more flexible. You just have to actively rotate through all your blasts instead of spamming on the bomb kit. And we’re getting more blasts, so you should be able to keep ’em coming with a blast every 3-ish seconds anyways.
If you’re heavily invested into healing power, the new medkit seems very promising. If you’re running the bomb healing as an ally support kind of thing then you can use the new medkit skills to heal and buff allies. It may finally be able to compete with the heal turret in that regard.

You’re aware that the Engineer isn’t finished yet, right?
On the livestream they had a number of slots that were missing traits completely.
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.
Except engineer isn’t finished, they still have 6-7 TBD traits, several of which could fit elixir infused bombs
It appears to be replaced my heal on blast finish so I doubt it’ll go elsewhere.
My point being however is that there will be other build broken based on a particular stat set, will be have a chance to change our gear as a lot of effort went into something that’ll now be broken (my Engi is only one example)
I’ll try and keep this brief.
I do a lot of high end content and I decided months ago to go against playing full zerk and specced my Engi in full cleric based around the trait elixir infused bombs (bombs heal AoE on attack). After getting full ascended in cleric I do impressive healing and tanks very well.
However, the new trait system has gotten rid of this key trait and it hasn’t appeared in the baseline. This means I have hendred’s of gold worth of useless gear when the new traits kick in.
Will there be a system to swap ascended gear for gear of different stats so I can turn this junk into something useful?
Check out Alchemy and Explosion trees
Look at the blasts
Look at the blasts healing
Heck look at the heals blasting!
Sounds like there will still be an Engi Heal build, it just will be more about spike heals through the use of specific skills than just 11111ing for a large regen.

But it isn’t broken, the spirit of the build still exists, in fact they have made you less dependent on a single kit while still being able to fill the same roll.

First of all, Arenanet stated that while no builds will make it through to the specialisation system without major changes (“and if yours did let me know so I can destroy it”). But if the spirit of your build isn’t still intact then you should let them know. Second, traits are still in flux, engineer traits are currently in the most.
The spirit of your build is to be a tanky engineer who heals using explosions. In inventions alone you have remove condi on heal skill, blast on heal skill OR turrets grant boons, regen on cleanse, heal on blast skill and bonus healing when affected by regen and med kits on bunker down OR heals on you heals allies too. Oh and one of the master traits is TBD.
I understand that the trait you’re losing is a loss to part of your build, but with that out of the way the numbers on your other healing sources can be higher. Blast on heal, heal on blast, healing turret for a healing blast finisher that heals and blasts and blasts and heals.
“There, it’s dead and it’s never coming back!” – Famous last words
Well, I hope this trait will get back, in a better iteration, in the definitive engineer traits.
If it is of any consolation, I use a great sw/wh-GS cleric ranger in WvW, and it does amazing. Maybe you could “recycle” your ascended armor that way?
I’ve long since asked for an item that we can craft that will change the stats on a single piece of ascended gear.
Bolt of Damask + new inscription = Item reroll to the stats on the inscription
It’s expensive but not nearly as expensive as just making a new on, but allows you to change the stats if you really desired it.

Something like this for a Mystic Forge recipe would be fantastic. Wait, no, that could also ruin sigils/runes. Nope, I like your original idea better.

Only problem is I don’t think the games tech would support such an item. Maybe allow them to be infused and have selectable stats?
“compensation” is silly. You still have the item, find a use for it.
The point bonus are meaningless anyways unless you’re doing level 50 fractals, and in that case, who does level 50 fractals as a healing elixirs engineer?
Props for bucking the zerker meta. I run Settlers Engi with ‘nades and healing bombs, but I don’t think Anet owes you for your build getting screwed by the rework. As oft-mentioned above, there are a lot of medi-engi options even with what’s complete. I’m actually really pumped for all that.
Also, healing bombs aren’t the most effective heal/sustain option, IMHO. It’s useful for a marginal survivability increase, but you lose a lot of dps (including condition dmg) sticking in bomb kit for too long. They are helpful for keeping rammers alive in wvwvw though.

Need I remind you of upcoming ranged mortar option. Heal on bast finisher, with a super long range blast finisher on mortar for ranged support healing.

It’s premature for you to ask for compensation for a system that has not been fully outlined or fully explored by you, as a player. I suggest your consider how long and how much use you got out of your items to reassure yourself you got full value. Also consider how every person who was unhappy with a balance build could make the a similar demand, and realize how unhealthy and unrealistic such a set of demands would be.
Wait for more information, please, before leaping to conclusions or making requests of this nature.
