- DON’T MERGE THIS SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!************
Okay everyone (including Anet),
Here is a summary for this expansion:
1- I will start off with the good stuff. The new content is amazing, the story is enjoyable, PvE can be fun for whoever enjoys that. Quite a lot of new stuff, fractals, guild hall, legionaries…… I mean very impressive job Anet.
2- Now, you have to understand that new additions is not the only factor that makes the game enjoyable. GW2 has different communities:
A) PvE
B) PvP
C)WvW and GvG players
D) A mix of before.
As well as different types of players: (Again, nothing is absolute)
A) Superhardcore (almost no life but GW2) (Not your source financial $$ income)
B) Hardcore (7 hours a day or so) (They might spend few $$)
C) Intermediate ( around 4 hours a day) (Your beloved $$ spenders, because they have jobs, family etc)
D) Casual (few hours a day with skipping days in between) (can vary between a big spender or nothing)
FYI, I have nothing against Anet making money. At the end, we all wanna make money.
Now what you did wrong is you let people get SOOOO hyped on the elite specialization, and gave them the opportunity to experiment it on, so-called, beta weekends, streamed quite a lot of information about how amazing the new elite system is. Yes it was amazing marketing and people bought the game but….. let’s think about that:
A) For PvE players:
Mostly, they won’t have a problem with it, may be! Their entertainment comes from farming (FYI, I am trying to be nice and avoid the word “grinding”.) They will enjoy the story, fractals, dungeons, etc.
B) For PvP players:
No effect.
C) For WvW and GvG players:
You destroyed them!!! Now you think that “oh! we must push this community to play PvE as well as WvW” Why?? One of the most beautiful thing, or used to, is separation between game modes. I am sure someone will come out and quote this paragraph and say “Do you know that you can farm hero points in WvW” Yes I know, and I know that I will need to “farm” on every character I have to achieve this ridiculous amount of hero points. Btw Anet, sometimes we (WvW and GvG players) will need to switch character in order to fill our team roster…….. now we have to “farm” for that.
D) For the super-hardcore players:
Probably no effect
E) Hardcore players:
PvE type won’t complain, WvW and GvG will complain
F) Intermediate and casual players:
WvW type will definitely cry to death! PvE will probably be very disappointed. Guess what, these are the players that brings you most of the $$. Elite specialization is not really $$ based except with the boosters.
And Anet, think about it, what is amusing and “sexy” for you to ask people for “farming” that much? Farming for something that they eventually will stop right after they get what they want in a week or month? People want to play what “they” want, not be forced to what “you” want. Sorry Anet, but you make money by satisfying your customer, not the other way around.
After reading the forums the last few days since the launch, most of the complaints are coming from WvW and GvG players as expected. There were some PvE as well. (Again nothing is absolute, you find minority WvW that might enjoy that weird system)
Conclusion:
1- Great addition and expansion.
2- You will, seriously, need to do something significant to fix this hero point system. Specially for intermediate, casual, WvW and GvG (including guild hall for the arena please) players.
Thank you Anet, we only raging and typing these kind of topics because we love this game and it would be very sad to quit! (Learn from other famous MMOs, they got kitteny, they lost)
Sincerely,
A WvW and GvG player
