You only get refunded on the core game if you bought the game between certain dates, due to information contained in the FAQ. You won’t get a refund on the core game if you bought the game today.

The refund is limited to those who bought the core game from Anet directly during a three month period.

Refund of core game purchase

In addition to our standard 30 day refund policy on game purchases, we’re offering automatic refunds to all players who purchased the core Guild Wars 2 game through buy.guildwars2.com or in-game during the months leading up to pre-purchase. All accounts that meet the following criteria will receive an automatic refund for Guild Wars 2 core game purchases:

•The core Guild Wars 2 serial code was purchased from buy.guildwars2.com or in-game and applied to your account between January 23, 2015 and June 16, 2015
•The Heart of Thorns serial code was pre-purchased from buy.guildwars2.com or in-game and applied by July 31, 2015

Refunds will be for the full amount of the core game purchase (for example, if you purchased the core game for $10, you’ll get a $10 refund).

Refunds can only be applied to the method of payment used to make the core game purchase. If the method of payment you used is expired, closed, or otherwise unavailable, a refund will still be processed to that account. You will need to contact your financial institution to determine how the funds can be sent back to you. We are unable to process refunds for purchases made with paysafecards.

We will begin refunding accounts on July 12, 2015, and approximately once per week after that until the first week of August. Once your refund is processed, it may take up to five days to appear on your statement

1. I payed full price and preordered the core game when it first came out and I got the boxed version from gamestop I believe. I heard you only get refunds if you buy it from buy.guildwars2.com IS THIS TRUE?! Can I still get it?

No, you can’t get it, since you bought the game before January 2015, and you bought it from gamestop. 2 reasons you can’t get it.

2. How does refunding work? Do I email customer support? Does it come automatically? How?

You don’t do anything. If you are entitled to a refund (which you aren’t for the above stated reasons), it will be automatically given to you. No need to apply.

The refund is for customers that bought the core game between the dates Jedi posted and pre-purchased the expansion. The reason is the core game is now included with HoT for free to new customers.

Why in the world would they refund a purchase for someone that has had the game/been playing the game for years? Hey here is $50 you spent years ago back after playing the game for years since you bought HoT for $50. So basically the expansion is free. Haha sorry but that makes no sense at all. None.

No. I can’t think of a single instance ever that a company has refunded a used game nearly three years later. If you had truly read what the posters were talking about then you would know the reasoning for the refunds to certain players.

I did read it the info I copied IMHO should had been enough to make things clear for you on your points.

Anyone who thinks this is fair is delusional. They haven’t even convinced the majority of us that HoT has enough content worth paying for, and they put these stupid time limits on vets getting free character slots with pre-purchase. I hear Arenanet is going to this show on August and may show more things, but boy do they need to justify their greed and disrespectful toward the veterans.

The core game is included for free to new customers to, you know, attract new customers. It would kind of be a bummer to have to pay full price for the core game right now and then have to pay again in a few months for the expansion.

Also, if you want the perk of the free core game feel free to buy HoT, ask customer support to close your current account with all the years of game play you have had, all the rewards, achievements, and everything else you have and then start over. There, you get the core game for free on a shiny new account with no gold, not titles, no achievements…. you get the point.

Gawds I get so dreadfully fed up with reading all the whining in forums and they owe us this, they owe us that blah blah. They don’t owe anyone anything. You bought a game you get your money’s worth. I’ve happily been with ANET since 2005 and I’ve more than gotten my money’s worth many times over. Don’t want HoT then DON’T invest in it and if you did buy it enjoy it as it’s meant to be. ANET owes nobody anything. Leave it out already, people got rewards because they QQ’d about it, enough is enough. GAME ON

First of all, you were mistaken. The refund was issued because the FAQ encourage people to buy the game when they didn’t have to. It’s for people who believed at the time they purchased the game RECENTLY that they would need to buy the original to play the expansion.

This is what WoW and EQ and every smart MMO company does. Could you imagine the future when you have 2, 3 or 4 expansions out and to get someone to start playing they have to buy them ALL? Who would ever start playing then?

Including the old content for free in an expansion encourages people into the game which is good for everyone. The expansion is $50 with or without the core game. You could have gotten the game for free too, if you waited till now to buy it. But then you wouldn’t have had the fun playing it.

Do you even READ what people are talking about? Do you even take time to process what the complaints are and come up with a clear analysis on what people feel like HoT is not worth 50 dollars? Please, please stop and think before you post again.

Well honestly guys I didn’t care until I heard they were giving out refunds. I wasn’t one of those people who whined but I did see their point and I agreed secretly until now. If something like a refund was really going to be given out I wouldn’t want to miss out. Anyway forget it guys. I was wrong.

Actually I’ve read this post and many others. It all equals to I deserve rewards cos I’m a vet, I bought the original etc etc. The OP wanted to know if he could get refunded. I’m making my post based on some of the replies. Crying is still visable even in this post. Give it a rest already and just play the game as it’s meant to be.

Adequate for what? Veterans are not entitled to anything just because Anet decided to offer a deal to new players. One of the main complaints when the expansion was announced were from players who were upset that they would have to buy an additional character slot in order to play Revenant since they’ve maxed all of theirs. Anet eventually added this for all veterans players for being loyal to the game who pre-purchase the expansion.

Perhaps the people who purchase Heart of Thorns should have to do what the rest of us that have had the game since release have to do….buy the original game first then get the expansion. But then again, there is no money to be made in that. Just sayin’.
