Now that we’ve talked about dual swords and the last legend, we have a complete set of core weapons and legends for the revenant profession. Let’s take a second to recap:

Mr Roy Cronacher, are you sure about what you are talking? Because we yet don’t have a single hint about how Revenant will work underwater, neither what weapon he will use. And I am dying here to know how it will work there, since I love UW combat.

Good job on shiro btw, seens awesome, but revenant is not complete, stop negleting Underwater content. Also, seens like not a single trait is affecting the underwater weapon, this seens wrong and overlooked.

It is bizarre they are deliberately overlooking the issue. Revenants will need UW combat since they will be starting from lvl 1 and some story parts have UW combat.

I lovethe addition of UW dynamics to this game. Sure it needs tweaking, but it’s just annoying to see it overlooked at times. I guess we’ll have to wait for launch or maybe a beta weekend to find out what the Rev is like UW

I’m like 90% sure that HoT will remove the last few remnants of underwater content.

It has been removed from PvP, WvW, all starting zones, and a few mid level zones already. Additionally underwater weapons have not been added to weapon sets for over a year now.

The only thing left is the last few mid to high level zones that still contain some water. These will be drained, frozen, or just removed. I am not, however, sure of what they will do with HotW or the underwater fractal. The fractal they might just remove, but I can’t see them removing an entire dungeon without a pretty big community backlash, unless they add in new dungeons as well.

Spam 1 on your condi spec. Probably would bleed and/or cause torment in an area effect in the water. That’s usually enough to make most enemies flee from you underwater.

In all seriousness though, they are probably just going to get a trident and some “blink through the mist” to travel quickly in the water skill.

Have you had a bump on the head?
Anet will never remove under water content in (core) PVE what so ever. At this moment in time Underwater content is lacking balance thats it just balance.

If they removed the Underwater content they’d have to remove T6 materials that drop mainly from underwater mobs, they’d have to remove another dungeon path in this case 2 of them, remove a fractal path, remove legendarys that are for underwater, they would also have to refund all those players with said legendaries .
So please don’t create a storm in a tea cup just because they haven’t announced an underwater weapon yet.

It would be very odd for them to not include underwater capabilities to one of the professions. For one thing many will want to level their revenant from level 1, which means they will be leveling up in the core zones and would therefore encounter situations where underwater combat abilities are needed.

I would be very surprised if we do not get underwater skills, but it would be nice if Anet can clarify on this.

Simplicity is complex.

Spear doesn’t have to mean melee combat. Look at Guardian, their spear auto-attacks are ranged, they can pull an enemy from afar to themselves and they can leave a zone and swim backwards that damage enemies if they pass through it. They do have 2 melee abilities of course, but it’s nice having two things build into one weapon.

I also liked the UW combat. Sure it needs work but what doesn’t in this game. Nonetheless it would be detrimental to the core game, its storyline, and the lore if they completely removed it. I really hope Anet realizes that and has a team working on UW combat as we speak. UW combat isn’t a total loss, but it does need a little Anet love!

It’s not a matter of a little effort so much as a complete overhaul.

Actually I’ve been wondering in a likely overly optimistic fashion this morning if the reason they haven’t been making new underwater skins and have left out all mention of Revenant underwater is precisely that: an overhaul. They have done other huge changes in secret, eg the Wardrobe. They wouldn’t have mentioned it as a new thing for HoT because it’s an existing system.

So maybe they are about to turn underwater skins into land ones (spearguns → rifles, etc), ditch the underwater weapon switch, and make it so we just keep our land weapons underwater, though with underwater effects and actions.

I will be vastly saddened if underwater content disappears. I really enjoy it (especially on Mesmer, I’ll admit). I’m one of the weirdos who liked Vash’jir in WoW. The freedom of movement is exhilarating to me. True, at the game’s start the underwater foes had bizarre leashing behavior, but I haven’t encountered that in a long time. So please, ANet, please don’t take out our reasons to swim. Certainly don’t take out our ability to do so! I have one RP alt who loves swimming more than anything else he does. Don’t beach him … I’m begging.

The real difficulty about UW is the management of AOE and targeting as well as the hitboxes of monsters and players. Right now they are the most obvious problem.

New revenant origin story confirmed :

In fact revenant have always been in game! The first revenant wasn’t rytlock, it was a Necromancer golem that became sicked bored at doing nothing while it’s master was ganked by other players. So one day he decided to broke free. Since then and since it’s IQ is limited, ancient spirit of the mist fought to controle this mindless body (we call this legends).

When they encounter Rhytlock in the mist, these legend shared their knoledge of possessing mindless body with him. And they said that since he is a charr, it should be also doable with him if he consent to realize a little dream of them. Teaching them how to swim.

Now they have an obvious issue since it’s well known that Rhytlock (like all charr) hate water and golem are destroyed as soon as they enter water.

At the moment, we are at a stalemate. Rhytlock is still in the mist trying to tame some legends while legends try to convince Rhytlock to bath a bit.

With what we know at the moment it’s obvious that the studborness of Rhytlock let him win the trade without praying the price. Maybe he will summon Logan (an obvious choice since he is a brainless fanatic of Queen Jennah) and make him bath for the legends in his place…

No core profession should be balanced around an optional elite specialization.

There are some truly insane posts in here. Like tin foil hat insane. Does anywhere here actually believe they would remove all water combat from the game?

  • It was unbalanced so it was removed from PvP until they can balance it. Low priority though.
  • Some starter areas no longer have underwater hearts due to Anet assuming underwater combat might be confusing for new players.
  • Underwater combat is not a major part of the game, thus I’m sure Anet felt no reason to make a big announcement about the Revenant’s underwater skills.

So that’s it, plain and simple. And now a dev has even confirmed that Revenant will have an underwater weapon. Just…..I mean……..wow guys.

Calling it now: Underwater Revs get trident, but it will still be more physical than magical to match how they use staves. A melee auto, but with some mist abilities on 2-5.

Maybe both trident and spear, but I doubt they’ll get spear guns if they have neither pistols or rifles, or even bows for that matter.

An underwater legend would be cool, but I doubt that will happen. If it DID however, it would solve the potential problem of the skills of existing legends not working underwater. Unless all Revenant utilities are useable underwater (which I seriously doubt) they may end up being nearly useless underwater if half their utilities just plain don’t work underwater like most of the other classes.

Even if no new underwater content is being added, Revenants are still going to need viable underwater skills for the existing content and open world exploration.

The idea of underwater legends is interesting, but I’m wondering what they could use… Off-hand I can only think of:
Legendary Djinn Form – Dehjah (Probably not significant enough to count)
Legendary Naga Form – Hanasha Coralfin (Same as above)
Legendary Snowman Form – Freezie? (Snow→Ice→Water…… Yeah, really starting to stretch here)

Unless they already broke the chain and called Shiro’s stance “Legendary Assassin” (not sure if we know what it’s called yet), in which case all of the others should be renamed, IMO.
If they did though and we’re not getting one per race, I can see Cobiah Marriner being one of the legends. Or possibly Lady Glaive.

Hylek, Quaggan, and Largos are the races that would best have an underwater legend associated with them, but we haven’t really gotten enough of their history and lore to have any character from those races that would be meaningful enough to matter…
