Subject. Pact glider improvements

We have found the pact glider developed to support our efforts in the Heart of Maguuma jungles has been indispensable. By providing safety and speed to our troops, our forces have been much more effective.

Assuming that the gliders were developed from Zephyrite kites and ships. I took the liberty of having a team of Zephyrites and Asura review the design of our gliders. It seems that aside from the custom decorations added to the gliders by troops, some improvements are possible. The basic frame and flight surfaces are made of common materials that were inexpensive at the time. With a few adjustments, a glider could be upgraded by using Mithril and Gossamer to achieve higher speeds and possibly distances. The smooth flight surface and rigid framework are responsible for the increases.

Please consult with the other pact members to find our if we can formalize a set of plans for release to our troops. Each member would be responsible for the cost of the improved glider substructure. We believe these changes would not compromise the utility of the glider for users and only make our troop members more effective.

If ArenaNet didn’t go the cheap route that is masteries, your first glider probably would have been something you put together yourself by collecting parts in VB. If it was an item you actually equipped, you’d also be able to control when you didn’t want it. All of the glider masteries would have been craftable upgrades, likely as an account collection, or to the item itself.

It’s very unlikely that they’d use crafting now on top of it. The closest thing we’ll likely see to an upgrade is having gliding disabled in the next expansion, where a new mastery re-enables it.

Crafting is unlikely for gliders, but I don’t think this is the most we will see with gliders. ANet could easily add in stuff like downdrafts and windwalls where you have to train masteries (or if they really kittening wanted to could do it by crafting upgrades that you equip) in order to navigate around/through them without being knocked out of the air

They could tack it on to an existing crafting. Will it be level 500 crafting? Higher than level 500? Will it require ascended crafting mats? Scribing? A brand new crafting line?

(Cue outraged screaming from all who hate crafting or don’t have level 500 crafting and think ascended crafting is to expensive or don’t have scribing or don’t want to start a new crafting line)

Or maybe they could have it at low level crafting. But how much crafting are we taking about to improve? Not much? Then it will be done in a few minutes and won’t really be worth the trouble of designing it. A lot?

(Cue outraged screaming about prices of mats spiking as everyone rushes to get it done)

I love this idea. Maybe even a power source for extended gliding.

Such a skill already exists in the Bloodstone crater area.
