Q:
Crafting the new legendary weapons?
I really hope the new legendarys follow the same shematics. I already have a Gift of Mastery and Gift of Fortune ready for them.
This might not be a popular opinion but I hope they’re NOTHING like the old ones.
Acquiring the old is a drag, its all about grind and asking guildies for help.
Then the looks, well…
So I really hope theres a whole new way.
Good news for you guys is it might not, it’s probably the same. Because like you two there are countless people already getting ready for them, and if that pre-work was for nothing there would be no end to refund requests.

Isn’t the main reason for this the problem getting a precursor though? Which will no longer be a problem with the new Mastery.

I asked a similar question a few days ago. Apparently Anet have said there won’t been any changes to the crafting system although this was not in direct reference to legendaries. I have the non-specific gifts saved up as well and hope the new legendaries follow the same pattern. I suspect the only changes will be the new way of acquiring precursors (collections) and the legendary specific gifts may change to a more skill-based system. The non-specific gifts I suspect will still exist as they are a good gold/karma/skillpoint sink

I think keeping the Mastery and Fortune gift for the new legendary is a bad idea, very bad idea.
Here is why
First of all if gives people that horde them the reason to complain that there is nothing to do in the game because they got the HOT legendary very very fast.
Second it will give other groups of people to power to say that it was a lazy design on Anet’s end buy keeping it the same and rewarding hoarders.
I think there needs to be new Gifts of Battle and Exploration also the Obsidian Shards should be replaced with something new because they are way to easy to get now.
Also gift of Fortune could have the Globs be replaced with a different component from the new zones just to make it new.
These are ideas if they keep the crafting of legendary items the same, but in my opinion, it should not be so much about the grind I would rather be time gated and have it so that getting a legendary means you have to reach a point in character progression to be able to finish it.
It has to strike a good balance between gathering mats for it and having requirements that would evolve you playing the game rather then just grinding it up. Adding a way that you actually need to do something difficult in order to get a certain item, you can make it so people that need for example “eye of Tequatl” would have to do something specific during the boss encounter and have that thing be rather difficult and easy to fail, something that feels rewarding when you finally get it not just “ah glad that’s over with, spent 500 hours farming for this gift”. GW2 needs to start being rewarding and not just ah finished farming that thing, I know we don’t have to but that’s what people do when they need to get something or just pull out the credit card.
Yeah, account bount precursors and account bound one-time only gifts of exploration are not cool.
Today, if somebody wants 19 different Legendaries, then he can buy them. After HoT, the only option will be to buy at least 10 character slots and the do world completion 10 times.
I think icy rune stones, sigils, and gifts of battle should still be included… But what else?
1. No more Silver Doubloons please (or anything that level 80 characters can’t farm).
2. No more gemstore stuff needed for gifts please
3. If they aren’t adding new dungeons, does it make sense to force us to grind them again?
4. Ectos, Obsidian shards, skill points, and mystic clovers better still be involved
5. Pvp reward tracks should probably help progress the precursor or legendary crafting hunts (similar to the Dry Top, or Silverwastes tracks) and I wouldn’t be opposed to Pvp being an easier or more reliable method for some component.
6. The WvW maps will be on rotation and it will be a upper pain to get world completion.
I already have a gift of Mastery, so I hope it at least uses that.
This seems likely because the current legendary crafting system is a huge gold/item sink. Unless they want to give out free legendaries or come out with 8 brand new t6 materials, I highly doubt they will alter the system in place.
Also, what is stopping you or anybody else from saving up resources for the upcoming expansion? You were told about new legendaries MONTHS before release, yet you want to blame everyone else for not taking advantage of something anybody and everybody who bought the game has access to? :/
