Just how hard are these supposed to be to get? I’ve done DS a few times, and decided to start getting some Runes of Leadership. I looked at the 100 per rune, then looked at how much I had after, oh, 4 runs.

At that rate, Iets say I work harder at getting the crystalline ore. Focus on it. Get… 10 per run? I’ll have to do DS 60ish runs total to get the amount I need.

Or is there a faster way to get them I dont know about it? I remember once seeing an area that had a LOT of noxious pods after MoM dies, but I dont recall quite where I saw that.

And how can I do this more… efficiently?

Some of the costs for things you need to buy is a little excessive. I normally average about 40 ore per run. There are four major areas after the meta to farm pods. The HoT story also gives you crystalline ore.

30-40 ores are a reasonable number to expect once you learn how to get to the 4 main pod areas; saurian, spiders, tigers and mushrooms. The large arrows give you a general idea where to go. It’s hard to describe exactly how to get to each area, easier to just find a video guide.

Spiders needs lay line gliding or a mesmer. Saurian needs up draft and jumping mushrooms. Mushroom needs basic gliding and jumping mushrooms. Tiger does not need anything.

Do the story on all alts. That alone gives you ~30 ore each time.

Do DS pod farming immediately after you get your chest. Since they buffed pods to give between 1-10 ore per its stupidly easy to rack up around 40 or so a run.

Central barbed gate has two areas. The spider area is nice if you can get to it. The mushroom area is okay. After that you can run down the other two lanes you didn’t escort. The area with the smokescales is just not worth unless you are going there for the HP.

Spiders and tigers area are reasonably safe. And I usually find I can complete the Saurian/smokescale area, but I do run a guardian, so I block to prevent my pod opening from being interrupted. If I didn’t have the time to complete all 4 areas, I normally skip mushrooms because 1/3 of the pods spawn on the lower area with the champ, and that’s a total death trap.

Best advice I was ever given was to bring a set of defensive armor for the pod farm (I use Knight’s), Zerk is no fun here.

You usually should do 30-40 per run. You can do the map every 2h, so if you play 6h you should have around 100 or more.

definitely a good idea. its a very very bad area if you dont have stealth, but, there are a couple more or less safe (safer anyway) spots you can use to get your cooldowns back. when I run DS, unless I need to run an alt though, I use a scrapper with sneak gyro. As long as I dont get caught in unstealthed people’s crossfire, I can get them all perfectly fine. Sometimes there is up to 10 pods in that area.

I just reread my statement about spider, and it is a bit misleading. I should have wrote something along the lines of:
“Spider needs lay line gliding, or a mesmer with ley line gliding to port you up.”

If you have multiple characters you can also run down each lane and open all the pods on each character per meta cycle. This method has no time restrictions and you don’t need to care if it is an organized map or not. You do have to do the other three maps to farm currency instead.

You won’t have enough keys to get 30-40 per run if you only play DS.

You can get more than 1 ore from a pod. The wiki lists quantities of 1, 3, 10, 14, and possibly 25. If you get 12 keys then the range you can get is from 12 to 168 (ignoring the 25) per run. Obviously average results will be skewed towards the lower end rather tha the higher.

As far as keys go, they’re 5 currency from each of the other three maps. AB and TD can net you 120 currency in the 15 min it takes to do the meta or 45 minutes total for both if you include the 15 min for challenges. You can get the same in VB during night cycle. It’s really no different than farming VW in SW for currency and converting it to keys to farm chests.

I do want to make one clarification as I may have been misleading. The 40 ore average is from all pods in the bonus areas. I want to say that I got close to 100 one time but it’s been so long since I actually farmed DS as I have no immediate use for ore.

For some unfathomable reason it’s also needed to buy stuff from guild hall merchants. I’d like to buy the mushroom mini but apparently the 20g and 50 guild commendations isn’t pricey enough so there’s an added cost of 100 crystalline ore attached just for giggles. It’s not even a guild related currency! On the other hand, I have a big pile of shimmering crystals mined from our guild nodes that I have no use for: a part of me suspects the currencies were mixed up.

Personally I’ve been getting my ore from dead DS maps, of which there is no shortage. There must be 10 or so noxious pods available at all times if you look around.

I JUST started doing DS myself. So yeah, I need to get good, because I’m NEW AT DOING THE DS RUN which is WHY I WAS ASKING FOR ADVICE!

Yes, it is outrageous that guild vendors need crystalline ore. Needs to be changed asap.

There are 4 areas that spawn tons of Noxious Pod nodes after the Meta dragon boss fight that you have to SPRINT through before time runs out. They also have Champion and vet mobs in your way so watch out! Too bad i didn’t know about this the first 10 times i did the events

Ancient Runes area is ONE

Place where you can get a juvenile tiger as a ranger pet and there are Wyverns and Beetles in the area is TWO

The underground area with the jumping mushrooms is THREE.

Spider area where u need ley-line gliding or a Mesmer port to get up is FOUR.

So if you’re fast enough from a single map event you could gather 30-60 ores if you’re lucky +collecting along the way usually nets you the first 5-8. Even if a Meta map is full join the group and wait till the end when people start to leave to join that meta map. You might be able to get in after and still hit those rooms without having to run the 2 hour instance, mean while just farm the empty maps for nodes n pods or afk until the last 30 mins when you try and get into the meta map (no xp, but easy ores)

If you have Ley-line gliding i’d start at the blue circle/spider area first (no big deal if you don’t you can just skip this one) and then go to the red circle/Ancient Ruins area next. Jump into the hole right there and follow the red arrows on your map, they’ll be an updraft at the end to get you up. (there’s also another way but i don’t know if its any faster) and hopefully others will already be there aggroing mobs so you can jump in and open pods with minimal things attacking you. Then go back to the same red circle wp and run south to the tiger area. You can see my white dotted line for the path. Then wp to the green circle/ jumping mushrooms area, just turn left from the wp and glide down past the updrafts and do a 180 just past the cliff. (make sure you don’t touch the vines below or you will insta die) and go into that little room/opening. There are Mushroom mobs waiting to attack you so either stealth or dodge outta the way! and your done!
Last two times i ran this path i netted 48 ores and 63 ores!

edit: the 63 ores might be partially due to running all over the map during the meta event just opening pods

My first couple runs I didn’t go for the pods at all since all I wanted was XP.
I stacked up on keys – and when I had a lot I did that. I don’t really see what I needed to learn.
Also – how am I a kitten for giving you advice? What exactly did I do to offend you? Was it that I told you that you need to improve? Is that an insult now?

There are too many crystalline ore sinks. Removing them from basic decorations was a right move.

I still didn’t find the Tiger area. Will have to search for it. I would like to suggest to everybody to buy stack of http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Harpy_Feathers_

Spam it every time you are going near enemies or going to open the pod. If you get ganged by smokescale and you are running zerk gear, you are pretty much dead if not playing for guardian, so these feathers are really useful.

It’s not an insult to tell someone that they need to improve. If a group consistently cannot get past VG, would it be an insult for someone telling them that they need to improve? No. They stated that you needed to improve your runs and gave you advice on how to do so.
