Does anyone know if the current legendaries will scale to max level or will they specifically level 80 legendaries? I realize you can trasmute and such but what if you want to keep your original purple legendary?

ANet said no new gear tiers, then they added Ascended. Almost three years later with no new gear, so I think it’s a safe bet that Ascended will be it for while, possibly forever.

But they also said that ls would be the way to go, and now it´s expansion time. So I would not put my hand in the fire for ascended items, but it would extraordinarily stupid to make it worthless again for the masses of rage quits. But in any way for legendaries, they will probably always stay top gear.

I’m pretty sure the devs said at the time they didn’t have “plans to” but that it wasn’t out of the question at a future date (and there was even lvl 100 gear data mined from when they’d been testing to see if the scaling could handle going that high.)

Note that increasing the level cap and pushing each gear tier up to match would neatly avoid adding “new tiers” of gear. Lvl 100 exotics are not technically a new tier of gear, as they are still “exotics”

Regardless, I am pretty sure they said no gear/level increases coming with HoT, so not really sure what the OPs worried about.

the only new tier that could be introduced would be legendary gear. In which case, it works as legendary weapons; same stats as ascended, but you can change them outside of combat.

I’m not sure what else anyone could say to assure the OP that HoT isn’t going to change any of the above. If one believes ANet, Legendaries are top tier. If one doesn’t believe ANet, then what difference does it make what they have said on the topic?

None of those prevents what Op is talking about. In case of level cap raise, Anet could keep to all these 3 points, and simply not update the level of current legendaries. A level 80 ascended would still be a top tier. A level 80 legendary would still be equal to a level 80 ascended (so equal to a top tier gear). Except there would be level 90 ascended items with even better stats. That loophole was noticed the first time they made the “legendaries will stay top tier” promise – and remember, they did say at that time that raising level cap was something they definitely wanted to do at some point.

Now, it looks like that the ascended debacle did scare them away from their misguided attempts at introducing gear vertical progression. Additionally, Mike O’Brien’s promise that our best gear from today will remain best gear in HoT seems way more solid. At least for now, it seems that we do not have to worry about any of this happening. Not anytime soon anyway. They may change their minds again at some point in the future, who knows, but for the moment, we can sleep safely.

It would be a logical step to raise the lvl cap one day. I am personally indifferent to it, surely would not maon if it happened, but also not run out in the street to dance.

Why?
PvP: Absolutely of no consequence to PvPers. As it is obviously Anets favored son, this would be no hindrance.
PvE: Although it is often moaned in the forum about lvl 80 already too much, I am pretty sure many people want this cap raised for more PvE experience. If this makes sense is for everyone to decide, but I am sure a PvE enthusiast does not mind to level longer if the maps are well desgned that accompany such an step. And how many altoholics with 45 characters are out there? Although some (winks^^) not that many I guess.
WvW: Nobody in Anet gives a rat´s rektum about WvW most of the time, why start with it now? Besiedes, upscaled until you reach new level cap, a little rallybot rally in general for the first weeks.^^

Level is meaningless, it’s only there because people expect it. How would increase in level make anyone enjoy the game more? It’d be a pointless grind. Character level is not content. More events and maps and features are content. There’s no reason foot them to raise the level and no reason for any player who thinks about the situation to want a level increase.

That’s why they are totally switched to lateral progression. Instead of going for higher levels and higher stats, they’re giving us more abilities and features and opportunities to unlock through playing the game and acquiring mastery points.

GW1 is still lvl 20 cap. As it was in Beta all those years ago. I suppose GW2 will stay 80 as well.

Masteries replace the need to add levels.

GW2 is a game where raising the max level wouldn’t actually add anything to the game. It would just be a less interesting xp progression mechanism than masteries.

Maybe just have the 80+ levels be cosmetic, one for each mastery you max if people just want bigger numbers. We don’t need any more vertical gear stat progression.

GW1 get through two campaigns and an expansion without raising the cap, and it was fun to play through that content because it was designed to be challenging rather than designed to make you grind for xp and replace gear.

I’d prefer to see GW2 going forward do the same thing. Leveling to max in GW1 was really just so you could learn to play your class, same as in GW2, and there’s no good reason to break that formula since masteries are a much better ongoing character advancement system.

PvE: Although it is often moaned in the forum about lvl 80 already too much, I am pretty sure many people want this cap raised for more PvE experience.

What PvE experience? The game is set up in such a way, that the level is a mostly meaningless arbitrary number. In most maps you get scaled down anyway, and in the end level maps you would be at the same strength relative to the mobs in there as you are now. The only significant effect level cap raise would have would be invalidating all your BiS equipment. I seriously doubt this would add to the PvE experience.
