Hey All,

Over the past weekend I did two things

1: Completed the Personal Story of HOT
2: Did my first DS Meta Event completion

When I finished the HOT Personal Story (I wont post spoilers) I was so very very angry at the way everything worked out. To me, it felt cheap, and unfinished (not even counting having to do it 3 times due to massive bugs) and I really felt… let down.

But then I did the DS meta over the weekend, and if you have not had the chance at the absolutely epic bossfight that the Mouth of Mordremoth is, then you are missing out. To me it feels like Anet went all out and made one of the most spectacular boss fights in MMO history. I LOVED it. (even though, again, its buggy as hell)

IF the Personal Story had required me to participate in DS, or even really hinted beyond a single line of dialogue that DS was happening, I would have had a very different opinion of the game post completion.

So Anet, thanks for an epic boss fight, I REALLY WISH you had told me about it more during the Personal Story, b/c then I feel like I would have felt less …. rushed

Cheers

From what I have seen, the entire HoT story encompasses not just the story instances but also the meta events on all of the maps.

Yeah, that does seem to be the case. I wish for people like me though, who just REALLY wanted to hit the story hard (im a lore junky) that they would have strongly hinted that some of the really big chunks were in the map metas…

Yeah. I didn’t make the connection until after I did the DS meta and then looked back to see if they did the same for the other maps.

Avur Wild Meta Event sums up the lores of Exalted and the fact that Modremoth is after it, which does not explain/ featured very well in story.

Tengle Depth Meta Event explains how big of an army Chaks are, making the demise of Asura in that region seems much more reasonable, which you really can’t feel it in the main story instance. (Because it’s too easy XD)

Also, I wish they actually DESIGN Mordremoth. They did design Zhaitan, but they don’t seem to design Mordremoth at all… That Electric Wyvern does not cut it, and does not look like an Elder Dragon.

Yeah DS was exceptional. Not too difficult, not too easy, very good climax… It felt a bit like marionette but better. Best PvE they added imo, though I love most of the PvE they added (just don’t get me talking about the WvW).

With what they showed they can do with the final DS battle, Raids should be a home run.

Dragon Stand is definitely the highlight of the entire Expansion and honestly I hope all content can match up to the quality of the battles in it.

That said, I’d be lying if I were to say I also enjoyed all the rewards coming out of that map. Opening a bag…within another bag…for two blues and a green feels just bad. And getting little to no gold or enough materials to sell for a good amount of money.

Reclaimed weapons aside (which are kinda convoluted in how you are supposed to get them. Rare → Mystic forge blue reclaimed and green reclaimed from what I understand).

For something that takes about 2 hours (1 hr 30 min in an organized group then 15 min for pods) it really should have better rewards, or at the very least pods need to not be guarded by shadowscales who will jump on your char’s face and there isn’t much you can do about it.

I have yet to even see DS’ meta. For a game that boasts of a megaserver I go there, stand around for a while, see one or two persons in one camp. Sometimes I even see five (!) in one camp and one in the other two. After five or so minutes of twiddling my thumbs I pack up and return to VB.

I’m not sure why people want raids. All metas other than VB are raids in all but name. Coordinated effort between groups needed and all, which is why it so often ends in tears (and deserted).

Ehhh to be fair we shouldn’t have to lean so heavily on the LFG to find maps as we do now in HoT. No I’m not saying nerf the events, just something should be done so people aren’t being thrown into maps that don’t have quite the numbers it needs to complete it.

Why not?
What if I want to find an empty map for RP purposes?
What if I dont want to complete meta event but want to farm escort or whatnot?
What if I dont even know what else I might wanna do on the map.

If you want to complete meta event – find like-minded people. This is exactly the purpose of LFG tool. You forgetting that people may have difference purposes of utilizing the same map and assuming that everyone wants to complete the meta.

I wish that part of moving the story along included participating in the meta events. I don’t even mean that the events need to succeed, just that you hang out through certain ones at different points in the story mode. I still have no clue where the meta events fall in the timeline of the story

Well I’m not saying people shouldn’t be able to not find an empty map, just that getting into a fuller map with enough people to do the event shouldn’t be as hard as it currently is. Getting into a map with more people should be the default as that is why most people are there in the first place, then if people want to use a map to RP or explore, they should be able to use the LFG tool for that, or even just select a less populated map if they wanted to.

There is one line in the PS that reflects the outside events, the bit about him being distracted by the army assault so now is when we can strike. If I had done DS before HoT 4, it would have felt much better.

Which doesn’t mean story should be gated behind things, necessarily. Though the vanilla story is, when you think about it — even before they level locked it, you still had to level up and explore through the maps to get to the final fight. The scope felt much grander as a result. Still, it might be nice to have something like AlphaDelilas suggests, so long as it doesn’t mean huge delays in progressing the story line. It can be annoying not to be able to continue unless an event happens, eg the Skritt tunnels in SW stopping you from getting to the north area for the story. Though those usually only delay you 10 to 15 minutes at most and you have the power to go open them up yourself.

Yeah this is one of the weaknesses of the story, it barely references the meta events at all. There should be chapters that specifically lead into doing the meta events.

The most important factor to finding a good map and completing the meta is going to DS at the right time. Right when the map closes and a new one opens is the time to open LFG and look for an organised map ( or taxi people to your own).
