Hi all.

It will be possible to consider the way to kick leechers from the map? Because I see many people afking just when the event starts until the end to take EXP without doing nothing.

Thanks for your attention

For the players to kick or the game to kick? Your post wasn’t clear on that.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

the real problem is the boring content.

cut/reduce those pres make them world events, make them happen on the specified time like shatter, fire elemental, etc.

no one likes to spent 1,5h to get to a merchant.

Maybe. or maybe an automatic kick for people with more than 10 min afk or something like that. Or a voting to kick people from the map if afk.

I mean: those people are there, joining suad to make 300 or 400k XP in a map with closed number.

And who is supposed to determine who is AFK?
Would open up the game to abuse kicking so a “buddy” can get in to a otherwise full map.
BIG NO.

Winry.5897 gets up to take a break, drink some water, stretch his legs. Comes back. Character select screen!!! Too bad. You snooze, you lose. Some people saw you standing in a corner and voted to kick you off the map.

If that’s the problem, then change the games mechanics so that they don’t get exp or rewards unless they participate. That sounds much fairer than kicking someone who went afk. Some of those people are taking a needed break and not abusing the system. Giving players a kick ability is a griefers dream and I guarantee it will be abused.

a possible fix to this issue would be to:

give a debuff after [insert mediocre time range ] of inactivity that does 1% Hp dmg per second. Additionally, while this is active, you do not receive participation for events. When you do an action [from a specified list of actions] the debuff gets removed.

ANet has already put in a system whereby HoT zones have participation percentages. Is this not working in DS? Are people doing some events to get their participation up a bit, then going AFK? If the system is awarding XP for just standing around doing nothing the whole time, there’s an obvious solution. Tie XP to participation. Silly me, I thought that was already happening.

There’s also an inactivity timer. Not working, either?

I’m not a fan of putting power to kick from the game into the hands of players. They will abuse it.

Not really your business what people do in a map, even if they look AFK to you, perhaps they are posting on a forum about this horrible player, Winry.5897, and trying to find out how to get him/her kicked out off the map.

Start minding your own business and concentrate on the game.

I have no idea what I’m doing on the map, I just want Hero Points to help unlock 17 Elites so when the map starts up, I sit afk at the Hero Point I want and patiently wait for help.

It’s not my fault this ruins your experience, it’s Anets design that I have to leave WvW/PvP to unlock elites at a less than average pace and puts fellow gamers who prefer PvE at a massive disadvantage.

I mostly play for the new Free-For-All arena in PvP lobby.

If they’re truly afk for 30+ minutes, their map participation percentage will drop down into nothingness, which prevents them from getting rewards. To keep receiving map rewards they need to participate in events regularly. Besides, if they really are inactive for an extended period of time while people are trying to join the map, they’ll be automatically disconnected sooner rather than later.

I’ve had both happen to me on different HoT maps, not because I afk to leech rewards, but rather since I often get called off the pc for family reasons and don’t want to loose my map participation when I don’t know if I’ll be away for a minute or an hour (kids have the tendency to be unpredictable ).

ANet has systems in place that “protect” you from afk-ers while at the same time protecting people with real lives from loosing progress prematurely. Unfortunately there will always be a few people walking the fine line between those two groups to game the system, but from experience I’d say ANet has done a pretty good job at balancing the activity level. No need to put any power over other people’s participation in the hands of players with a subjective view of the situation.

I disagree with player voted kicks. For a start it could be abused but i am not going to go into that and assume everyone uses it responsibly. For a start, what is stopping afk leeches from going somewhere where they simply will not be found by anyone? I can think of many such places in tangled depths and a fair few in AB and VB. If a person really just wanted to get event credit by going afk if the only way to stop them was a player-initiated kick, they would just go to a very rarely used/hard to reach place and afk there and the likelihood is that nobody will even find them.
As for an automatic kick system where if you are afk for a certain length of time, I like that idea to an extent, but the timer would have to be a lot longer than only 10 minutes because there has been a few times where I have been afk in one of the new zones for longer than that and not got any reward whatsoever, which is a good thing in my opinion, as I would delete any loot I got while afk if I was able to.
A better system than a map kick system would be that the people not doing events just don’t get any rewards at all. That would allow people to afk for a bit if they have to and would stop people ‘leeching’ rewards from events they are not participating in.

I had to AFK one time through the Mordy fight. People couldn’t figure out how to zerg properly and the three bosses took about 45 minutes instead of the 7 or so they should take. So as a result I had a toddler that had awakened from a nap. All I needed was the vendor to buy the machined weapons!

So not all AFKs are nefarious. Part of it for me is the terrible time schedule the new maps are on. There is ONE time frame a day that I am able to get into a DS map, because of my schedule. If I miss it or can’t get into an organized one. I am screwed.

Honestly a solution that would go a long way to combat this problem would be making the end merchant accessible. I know I certainly afk in DS before because I don’t really need anything from there except to talk to that guy.

Another solution might be to look at the scaling to be able to complete it with less people, giving players the ability to kick is just gonna be abused as it is in any other game (including this one with the party kick system). Would be pretty bad to spent 1.5hrs in the event only to have some griefers kick you before you can collect rewards

Just make it a normal map with mordy meta happening every 2 hours with crystalline ores given as award for meta progress. That map is the worst ever. Running in circles for 10 minutes make me dizzy. I don’t even zone in there after I farmed the crystalline ores that I needed.

The problem is in the map, not the players. I couldn’t care less about Mordremoth, even less getting orders from the no-lifers with their circling strats, all I want is the merchant and the noxious pod, which only opens up at the end of a mostly 2 hours long meta.
The design of this map brings out the worst of human nature: AFK to get the rewards, flame other lanes seeing the boss revives, AFK to get access to the noxious pod and enter survival of the fittest mode to see if you can gather more than the next guy who is now laying dead on the ground. Once again, please blame the map, don’t blame the players. This is not your typical Queensdale.

If AFK-ing for extended periods of time can get you anything, it’s indeed a problem with the design.

I’ve done it myself. I wanted to get something from the merchant at the end and had no intention of playing those dreadfully boring zerg events. Stood at the start and amused myself in a browser for an hour or so, periodically checking if the map was making progress. It was.

There is another factor: I have found that if I get disconnected I cannot rejoin the map. I presume that shows me as afk — even though I am not. Permitting a rejoin to the same map following a disconnect would help.

This has been asked for so many times, and ignored equally so many times by Anet, it’s clearly never going to happen.

Just another massive fail of the mega-server system.
