Today’s daily was DS events. By the time my map reached the towers two lanes were emptied. The map was full at the beginning. I joined a map that was advertising on LFG. We had 3 tags. It looked like a serious map. I can’t believe how fast the map emptied about the time we hit towers. So, I wasted over an hour (I want amalgamated gemstones) for nothing. In fact, I showed up 20 min early so I wouldn’t be able to join the map. So, in actuality, I lost somewhere between 1.5 and 2 hours. Anyway to advertise “serious DS lfg” vs “only want my 4 events lfg”?

DS is all about the meta. You need 3 lanes of decent players with a couple knowledgeable peeps per lane to succeed. Most of the time its hard to get onto a map. If you don’t show up early you won’t get in. However, DS requires dedicating over an hour (unless u have an awesome map) if you include showing up 15 min early window.

Other meta are popular enough that peeps will hang around. But, these meta’s are relatively short. DS requires dedicating a lot of time.

Can something be done? Perhaps organized maps – when DS events are daily’s – can advertise “we are going all the way – no bailers pls” and have another map for “bailing – only want my 4 events for daily” on LFG.

For me, this wasn’t about getting my daily – it was about doing the DS meta. At this point, I don’t see me doing DS when it’s a daily. When it comes to DS, I’m in it to slay the Dragon!

I have never failed DS in the middle of the night. It’s always day somewhere and people play this game all over the world. I’m in Australia and I run it more in the wee hours of the US morning than I do during prime time US and I can’t remember the last time we failed a run.

Nothing can be done. People would still join “serious” meta LFGs during dailies and leave if they want to. Just keep the LFGs active.

Ironically, the time most likely for a DS map to fail is when DS is the daily. It brings out all sorts of people new to the meta plus commanders that don’t much like to lead. Folks fail to explain key mechanics, things go pear shaped, the mood sours, and the map has trouble recovering from setbacks, both real & imagined.

You can easily get the daily without worrying about the meta or worry about meta and hop maps using LFG to find a good group.

Indeed, same with fractal daily runs. If you write in LFG that you will do 76, 89, 91, there will be people joining only for 76 because they’ve done the others already. Or if you need to beat the Jade Maw in under 5 minutes for ad infinitum and you advertise it when Solid Ocean is a daily, you will have people joining for that daily and nothing else. If you fail the achievement at the first attempt, they will leave because they got their daily.

It’s best to do these things when they are not dailies.

Map is locked after entering the blighting towers, nobody can join that instance.

This.

Doesn’t take a genious to figure out that this daily is bogus. The amount of people who would rather just complete the daily versus finish the map will hurt every meta on such a day.

Best thing arenanet can do is either remove the daily or tie it to completing the map.

That being said, why would anyone do DS daily when there is easier and faster dailies left and right? 0_0

I can’t shake the feeling that DS will die completely when new expansion lands. Hopefully they’ll make a way to make it less time consuming and team dependent.

Interesting question. I usually do the dailies before I go to work, and that certainly doesn’t include DS meta. Today, I did all three others and pinned DS in case I find the time to do it in the evening. That was the JP in Southsun Grove that takes about 30 seconds to complete, then viewing a Vista in Ascalon (cow catapult anyone?) and collecting 4 plants in Orr. I think I spent about 10 minutes to get the 2g, without having to bother with DS. And those people in DS certainly had access to the other locations.

People will always do DS for the materials there. If you want the chronomancer runes, you need to do it. I’ll keep doing it because it’s the most fun meta in the game. Only issue is that you need to plan for up to 90 minutes doing it, including opening the pods afterwards. I’m usually kicked from the map shortly after I opened all pods that are not hidden somewhere or heavily protected.

Don’t know, never played WvW, so I’m going with DS to get them. Not everybody does WvW and has the option to get them there. I would guess there are more PvE players than WvW.

Yes, but then you have to wvw. That’s a high barrier to some.

EDIT: but for those interested, yeah, WvW is a way better deal for those runes than DS.

I don’t understand. Why do you need DS for the Chronomancer Runes? You get the recipe just from fully unlocking Chronomancer.

  • Superior Rune of the Chronomancer, named after the specialization
  • Superior Rune of Leadership, the choice for the meta chronotank (used by some, but not all, chronomancers)

I hope folks can understand that many players (perhaps even most) would assume “chrono rune” would refer to the first.

I’ll admit, I tilted my head at “Chrono Rune” being in Dragon Stand. I was angling for those hideously overpriced runes myself. Decided against it, considering the rate of acquisition of c-ore is insulting.

Yeah, when someone calls one item by another item’s name then it kinda throws me a bit thanks for clarifying!

As for Leadership Runes, oof, painful, I wish you luck Faaris. Personally I think that they’re a bit overpriced but they seem to have put quite a significant price barrier for raiding gear in general.

People will keep doing DS so long as they need Ore. It’s the rarest currency/mat in the game since you have to do a long winded 2 hour meta to get ~50ish pieces. Of course, most people just declare kitten it long before they get everything they wanted to that needs ore, since it’s so annoying to acquire.
